  • @MaverickLegend
My expression exactly when eating BBQ ribs.

  • @Achterbahn While there are some good things about many restrictive diets (I mean that in a good way), I think your co-worker's philosophy is great.

And yet, there's a lot of very good vegetarian dishes in Indian cooking. (@IronLemon)

    Absolutely agree

  • Yes, I agree, there are a lot of rocking vegetarian dishes in Indian cuisine. One of my favorites, that I like to make at home, is Matar Paneer.

Can't do it, Big Time Carnivore here too

  • When Pizza Hut used to advertise a “meat lovers” pizza and a “veggie lovers” pizza, I really wanted them to call the second one an “animal lovers” pizza. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @MonkeyNeedsAHug - They can't call it that without confusing people. "Animal lovers? Is that just a crude way of calling a meat lovers pizza?"

    I’m vegan, except for fish.
    And chicken and turkey.
    And pork…
    and steak.
    And milk and eggs.
    But other than that… 😂

In all seriousness, for the past several years I have started every morning with coffee, bacon and eggs. I have an occasional vegetarian meal and I agree, Indian food has some of the best vegetarian dishes I have ever had.

  • That is why I avoid rotisserie chicken. It's not possible to pretend I'm not eating an animal.

  • Yes! I’ll have been vegan for 19 years as of next week!

  • Omnivore with no issues skipping meat for meals, and happy to cook vegetarian to vegan for friends when hosting.

One thing I can't stand is the fake meat products like Impossible and Beyond. I try to avoid food made in a laboratory. I really lean into the flavors of good normal vegetables and grains and the way so many cultures have of adding great complementary flavors to them. I feel one reason America has so many unrepentant carnivores is the bland vegetables so many of us got served as kids. Putting broccoli or cauliflower in the microwave for several minutes and dumping it unseasoned on a plate is a tragedy, but felt like the norm in this country when I grew up, and may still be.

  • Vegan since 1988. Healthy, extremely athletic, super-clear arteries. Most people think I'm 15 years younger than I am. I love the food I eat. Can't even imagine eating a dead animal.

  • I'm a Las Vegan if that counts for anything.

  • I’ve reduced the amount of death in my diet to fish. Having kidney stones in the past complicates a full transition but I at least want to whittle it down to eggs and milk byproducts.

I believe that a life with fully intact thoughts, emotions, bonds, and beliefs is the most beautiful thing the universe can offer. I don’t know if a cow has beliefs but I’m positive they have the others.

  • Twenty years from now when scientists discover that vegetation has feelings and personalities... what then will vegans eat?

    Vegan for 8 years

Pretty much vegetarian for 20 years now. Did it for health related reasons and the transformation sold me on it. I don’t miss meat and while I have consumed meat in a couple of social situations where I had no options, the way it made me feel was a negative, not a positive.

I will add that I found it easier to obtain muscle definition from the gym eating vegetarian. There are plenty of ways to get protein other than meat and you are not consuming as much fat.

  • I have been a vegan for nearly 12 years, will have been 12 years in a few days. Some people say it’s hard, but I don’t find it hard. Rice, beans, avocado, onions, cilantro, and fried tofu are a great mix! There are lots of fake meat out there on sale, some of which are vegan, by which I do buy the vegan ones, but now I have been cutting back on soy the most I possibly can, and it has been a bit hard, but not too hard, but most vegan fake meats in my local grocery stores have soy. I am just avoiding soy additionally now to be able to have more energy and due to articles online saying the negative effects from soy in the long run.

    Vegan since 2022.

Most of my friends were vegan before I went vegan.

Didn't even know what vegan was till about 10 years ago 🤣

I'm vegan for the animals, I started to pick up the energy from the meat I was eating and it was NOT a nice experience (this is a 'thing' by the way for some vegans, it's not just me).

When I was younger, I used to mock and ridicule vegans. Now I've gotten to a point where I just accept that I do not understand them, but do my best to accommodate such folks at the table from time to time.

I've been a fisherman and hunter all my life, so I've lived and observed the natural food web in action - whales eating herring, eagles killing & eating small animals, etc. I've always accepted my place in the food web as a part-time predator and couldn't imagine living any other way.

I am an omnivore who eats a lot of fruit and vegetables and not much in the way of starches. It seems to support my training, and this is how I was brought up to eat on the farm. My family generally tends to be long lived and active into old age--my grandfather was working his farm in his early 90s and my mom had a good, long life--so this approach seems to work for us.

That said, I deride no one for their food choices. 🤷‍♀️
