Jumping on the Scotland bandwagon for sure, but right now I’m looking to go back to Japan now that my 日本語 is getting better.
I plan on retiring early in about 5 years, to live more frugally I plan on living in countries that have a cheaper cost of living 6 months out of the year, I just don't want to be in Chicago when it's winter, lmao, I also really like Asian cultures, so I plan on staying in Thailand, Vietnam, The Philippines, and Cambodia, these countries are very cheap to live in.
I spent a week in Wellington, NZ back in 2019. I would like to go back but this time visit the South Island.
Several years ago a friend of mine was dropped off by helicopter, with nothing but his mountain bike and some supplies, on the West coast of the Island then picked up by helicopter 2 weeks later on the East coast of the Island. I would love to recreate that trip riding and camping solo through nature for 2 weeks with no cel phone.
@JohnR1972 That reminds me of the cross-continental motorcycle adventure that Scottish actor Ewan McGregor and a friend took across Siberia, Kazakhstan, and/or Mongolia in the late 1990s/early 2000s. I don't recall the exact route, but they had documented quite a bit of it.

No where is safe, everywhere is poisoned, and there are probably more than five people there which means, statistically, that you are hanging out around a bigot and/or predator.
So, I don’t think it matters.
We have homogenized most of the places that we haven’t flattened and burned.
I'm Scottish. I don't live there any more but I've been back for dozens of holidays and I recommend the place very strongly. You will not be disappointed.

After high school a friend and I hitchhiked around Europe. So I've been to Ireland, Scotland, France, Belgium, Germany, England and whales. But mind you I didn't have money nor even places to stay at times. We just took long bus rides or trains or ferries or hitchhiked and slept along the way. We ate what we could and slept where we could and saw and did what we could along the way. It was an absolute blast at the time, but I'd love to go back as a gainfully employed adult with a plan and itinerary.

So I did a lot of traveling as a child/teen because of my grandmother I’ve only been to The Dominican Republic and Jamaica as an adult. Realistically, I’d like to go back to some new Caribbean country every year. I’m thinking about Barbados for next year. If money were no object I’d love to go back to Europe, I’d love to spend more time in French Polynesia and I’ve always wanted to visit Australia and see a platypus, and I’d like to visit a safer country in South America that has Capybaras that I can pet.

I won’t list them out but everywhere I’ve been has shown me something with seeing. And people worth meeting.
And even the places I’ve been that I did not enjoy and would not return to had something that made me glad for the experience.
My high priority list for next would be Japan and Southeast Asia, followed by Bora Bora and the other Polynesian islands.

well on the point of Scotland, before my dad passed away had been looking into taking a Scottish cruise. since he never got to, I want to go take one for him. I did get a passport a few years ago. our ancestors on my dad's father's side are Scottish.
I'm not against going to new Zealand. I'm a massive Tolkien fan. I'd love to visit the middle earth places from the movies. going to hobbiton would make my life. I was born to be a hobbit I swear. ☺️

I've been to places which aren't worth the trouble of visiting, but I still got something out of being there. My dad has a phrase for such visits. "It was a wonderful place and we had a wonderful time. And the best thing about it is, we never have to go again." Also applies to visiting certain acquitances. 🙄
Edit: actually that's not quite true. I've been to 3 places I hated so much I fled immediately.
Bournemouth in England - took one look and got back on the train. Have been back since a couple of times, and can confirm that was the correct decision. (Just .... ghastly.)
Auckland in New Zealand - got off the airport bus, bought a ticket to Great Barrier Island, and was on the next bus back to the airport. (I think it might be good if you like suburbs without soul, heart, liver, pancreas, the lot.)
Hoi An in Vietnam. Arrived late and had to spend the night. Went to the airport first thing and said, "Two seats on the first plane out of here please. Where to? Don't care. Anywhere in Vietnam that isn't here." * shudders at the memory * (Desecration by tourism. Do read up on the history of the place and look at photos. Do not go. Not a reflection on the locals. Loved the rest of Vietnam.)

Aside from there, I really like hiking nature trails, so New Zealand and Canada are on my list.
I'd enjoy going back to Italy and like to visit the sights and people in Kenya and the Phillipines.
