I first heard this song, performed live by Tom Smith and Marc Gunn, over a decade ago. It really resonated with me because I had recently escaped my “cubicle hive” by quitting my corporate job and starting my own data analysis consulting business. I had found my freedom and this song was a reminder of my former life.
Through a series of life choices and work experiences over the past decade, I have reached the pinnacle of career success - being part of a team working with advanced technology on projects for people with important sounding titles… and slowly realizing I have rejoined a much nicer version of the “cubicle hive”.
This time it’s a luxury office rather than a cubicle, but a hive is still a hive, even when it has biometric scanners and armed guards at the entrance.
This is the song I have been hearing in my head almost non-stop for the past 2 weeks as I have been planning my escape to mountain bike trails in TN and GA next week.
