That's right. I’m sure you’re excited to be sharing this month with so many other good causes-Stormy
Does it include mental health?
I thought that this was in November ...
@GuyverGordon No, it's June. And it's fine, just not more or less important than other causes that share the month.
Oh ... well I guess that shows how much I follow these things... 😅
That’s nice. Reminder for men to get your prostate check, and talk about what’s stressing you out so much.
I finally bit the bullet last month and got set up with a PCP for first time in literal years . Got all my labs done etc. wasn't pleased with the results, which is why I avoid doctors, however at least now I'm getting treated for things needed addressing and actually feel physically better as a result.
@pmvines good for you.
@Bear
Thank you appreciate the encouragement. It's really a sad irony that Ive worked in healthcare all these years and take such poor care of myself lol. I'm also a trained therapist and take zero percent of my own advice when it comes to the space in between my ears.
@pmvines
To me, it makes sense. A long time ago, I was told never buy a car from a mechanic. Or any appliance from somebody who works on them, lol.
It’s never too late to work on your health.
I didn't go to the doctor for years because ... well that's another story. Anyway when I did it turned out I had stage 4 colon cancer. So guys, especially over 40 .... find a way. Get whatever it is checked out and dealt with. You'll feel better.
As a side note, the modern way of checking for prostate cancer is just a blood test. Enlarged prostate is common in men as they age, and doesn't necessarily mean anything (I have one myself.) There are medicines which help.
Why the comment stormy?. I dont understand the shade?
Edited to remove antagonistic comment. I am open to constructive criticism over my actions but baiting isn't acceptable toward any mod or person for that matter. -Stormy
The older I get, the more health problems that I learn exist. And I've gotten it through my thick skull that certain tests and exams are, if not "necessary", at least very prudent.
Hmm. I did not see the comment by Stormy as shade...
I don't believe @stormydaycuddle was throwing any shade at anyone at all. And don't make this into a gender thing either because it has zero to with that. But she is perfectly capable of defending herself and surely does not need me so that's all I'll say about it.
I, like @stormydaycuddle, can also see why the thread could have given the impression that it was started in bad faith as a response to counter the attention received for Pride. The timing of the thread coupled with the opening post being more a challenge than a statement does make it come across as insincere. As both a man and a strong ally and advocate for the LGBTQ community, if my impression of why the thread was started is accurate, then it is a tacky reason, as Pride and mens health awareness can both take place simultaneously and not take away from the other. Recognizing one thing does not mean no recognition to the other. This isn't pie.
Regardless of the intent when this thread was created, this is an important and valid topic and I am glad to have it. So let's not be petty and try to keep the thread going in a positive direction please.
My mod comment was added to the post after reports started. There is no shade only stopping one post from setting off a fight in another. I've been here for quite a while and it happens almost every year without fail. Someone posts pride, someone posts mens health and the fights start. @joe3333 I hope you have a good month and take care.
Back on my original comment, I was thinking no shave November was an extension of Men's health month; I didn't realize they were separate things...
@GuyverGordon
I believe that is more so for cancer awareness
2 weeks ago I participated on the "DGR" (https://www.gentlemansride.com), a global fundraiser event for men's mental health and prostate cancer - a fun day, especially for bike aficionados (125,000 participants in 108 countries); but done in May as far as I've been participating 🤷♂️
