Agreed. I grew up being trained by WW2 vets - for one, learned how to fly a plane in my teens under the guidance of an old bomber pilot.
I do remember seeing news coverage of the reunions at places like Normandy and Pearl Harbor. Now almost none are left to tell their stories.

@dennis22554 "seems they are already forgotten." How so? As both a student and an instructor of History for more than half my life, I don't find that to be the case (esp. with my students). Sounds like you have had a different experience.
My boyfriend's grandma gave a lovely speech and prayer for the veterans on Memorial Day. 😌
