Taking love for granted

edited September 2025 in General

I have noted during the b course of my long..long..life time that love between two couple often falls into the trap of being ñ"taken for granted that it will always be there" and the work to mintain its health is nneglected.and it shrivels and dies. As an example..your wife or gf ask you to bring them a chocolate bar home and you have known for years they are a vegan. So you bring home a Milk based bar back and wonder why they are so upset..whats the big deal..why are they s o unapprecistiive of your effort? But ..there is a big difference and instead of a sweet..you brought something back that could have made them sick. Forgeting important..details...no matter how insignificant the mistake may seem ....can severely damage a relationship...especially when it seems to have been made by complancy

  • @dennis22554 I found this very meaningful post rather hard to read with grammar syntax and spelling (I understand in relation to your health problems) So... I put it into my phone's AI and rewrote it.

💔 Love, Complacency, and the Cost of Forgetting

Over the course of my long, long life, I’ve noticed a recurring pattern: love between couples often slips into the trap of being taken for granted. There’s an unspoken assumption that love will always be there, no matter what—and because of that, the effort to nurture and maintain it quietly fades. Left unattended, love doesn’t thrive. It withers.

Take a simple example: your wife or girlfriend asks you to bring home a chocolate bar. You’ve known for years that she’s vegan, yet you come back with a milk-based treat. You’re confused when she’s upset. You think, “What’s the big deal? Why isn’t she appreciative of the gesture?”

But here’s the thing—there is a big deal. Instead of bringing home something sweet and thoughtful, you’ve brought back something that could make her sick. It’s not just about the chocolate. It’s about forgetting something important to her. That oversight, however small it may seem, sends a message: “I wasn’t paying attention.”

Neglecting the details—especially the ones that show you care—can quietly erode a relationship. And when those missteps come from a place of complacency, they hurt even more. Love doesn’t die from one grand betrayal. It dies from a thousand tiny forgettings.

You are always so kind and caring!

  • Taken for granted happens in ALL types of relationships, even at places of employment employers take for granted employees all the time and vice versa.😊

  • Lol! 😆

My son takes me for granted, and I take him for granted too. Lol 😆
