Penn Station has great cheeeesteaks. 5 Guys Cajun Fries are my fave as long as they are not undercooked. I like to hit Panda Express for egg rolls and Rangoons. Jimmy Johns has good roast beef sandwiches.
Fast food makes America fat and unhealthy. I would never touch it. I cook for myself from scratch twice a day.

@jamesDC Same here but when I am on the road I have to eat out. But…I generally go to a sit down well reviewed reputable restaurant. It’s been months since I ate fast food and it was at a Wendy’s to grab a fruit cup and water.
@wilderdude Never been to that one. But I have been to a few around the city over the years and they always seemed clean. Luckily I never ordered the meat. They always have very fresh broccoli, carrots and other veggies. Eating healthy on the road is challenging but they are a quick place to go for fresh vegetables done decently considering it’s fast food.
But given the choice I go to a nice Thai or Indian restaurant. A thank you to @BlueIris for getting me into Indian cuisine. Thai is my favorite though.

I’ll focus on a couple likes instead of throwing shade at places like five guys (oops, there’s a little 😇).
Fast food is a definitely rare indulgence but in-n-out and Freddy’s have the best options for my tastes.
For non fast food I’m with @TheFunCartel , Indian and Thai are tops.
Is the Freddy's you guys referring to the custard and steak burger joint? I think I saw one Sunday in barstow where I stopped

@wilderdude Ha I saw that Freddy’s there and wanted to try that as well. I got In-N-Out from that Barstow location at like 12:15am and there were like 2 people working and no line, and oh my goodness it was the freshest, most delicious burger and fries I had ever gotten from In-N-Out. The one by me is now hot garbage in comparison.

Had Subway for lunch - Foot Long BMT on Wheat with American cheese, tomatoes and banana peppers. Like them kinda plain. no sauce, no spices no dressing, no tip , no donation round ups. and don't bother asking if the bread is fresh, reminds me of my days as a pro when i was asking a client if he read and understand the terms of service.
@Bear Portillos is a great example of what happens when a corporation takes over and take the company public. institutional shareholders start nickling and diming everywhere. rumors are they even took the mayo out of the chocolate cake mix and that would be the reason why the cake is not as soft as it used to be.
Picked up a pizza at Lou's couple weeks ago and they have a new POS where the tipping options are 18 , 20 or 25%, are you shitting me? im driving myself to the store to pickup a $40.00 pizza , I check myself out and you want a tip? geez thank you for not asking me to stock the soft drink fridge on my way out

@Sooson i’m not sure how long you’ve been in Chicago. At one time I worked at wags. It was owned by Walgreens and pretty much the same as a Denny’s. I used to ask a lot of questions like I still do. When they ring you up at the counter. There should be a way to ring it up where it does not affect your sales. because some places will text you on whatever your sales are. By the government. So if it’s just a pick up order, it should be no tip because you weren’t served. I never tip on a pick up order or Starbucks or any coffee shop because they’re supposed to be making minimum wage and not waitress wage. Another reason why you probably have a lot of people not working in that industry because they’re tired of the low fees because of the corporations.
There’s a guy on Facebook called the president of the fast food secrets club. Should probably ask him for the recipe for the Portillo shake because he will talk to all the different people that work at restaurants all the time and he gets recipes for secret dishes and stuff. If you piss him off, he shows it on Instagram or Facebook or whatever. He gets all kinds of good information and good recipes and what not.
The Portillo‘s downtown at Clark and Ontario is still pretty good but if you go to the other ones, they’re not the same. Especially if you go to a restaurant that was opened up after they were bought out. The one downtown was there for over 30 years I believe so it’s still kind of decent plus the people were taught originally how the owner had it. There’s one in the West Loop. I went to that had a Gyro. I just wanted to try it and that was horrible and very greasy.
This post forced me to have In-n-Out today for lunch. I usually only eat fast food a couple of times a month. Anyway I love their burgers, not crazy about their fries though. And price is a little lower than some. I’ve had pretty much all others listed above at least once. Whataburger is also a favorite that’s close by.
@TheFunCartel Sbarro is now at many TA truck stops. They had to make a shift since mall traffic is way down.
They have changed their product quite a bit, used to have thick crust now they are thin/big ny style. Have some interesting topping combinations, had em recently, they aren't bad.
I was listening to this with a client and he started craving chicken nuggets... We ordered in and had these huge portions of fries and nuggets from a place called Crunchy Chicken.
Several hours later I had a very upset stomach

Best thing about fast food was how cheap it was. Taco bell 59, 69, 79 cent menu. Mcds dollar menu, Carl's jr even had dirt cheap stuff.
I remember getting stoned in the late 90s and send someone out with like 20 bucks and he'd come back with two huge bags of taco bell or spicy chicken sandwiches from Carl's for a group of about half a dozen
@Bear Good info regarding that Facebook dude. I already cracked the Cheesecake Factory lemon sauce, next is whatever Starbucks sprays on top of their grilled cheese sandwich so I can hack it, especially with the winter approaching. whatever you said about Portillos as far as old stores vs new ones you can also apply to Lou's: River North and Lincolnwood are the best. can easily feel the difference in quality comparing to the new take-out locations. I'm naturally a tipper and when I get to know someone and chit chat with them at the window, I tip them sometimes. but the acceleration in recent years just turned me off. even non-food shops offer the option to tip.

Gotcha . Maybe it's more regional now. I remember the 50s diner look with mini juke boxes on tables always thought that was fun. I may be wrong but it seems like they did the smash burger thing before it became popular.
One way to test the quality of fast food is to offer Sister Skinny a bite and if she refuses you know it's bad news.
