Deposits - Am I wrong?

I requested to cuddle someone, and I noticed they required a deposit. I messaged her and she responded. Immediately she requested a deposit. Here is the catch, she has no karma’s and she is new on the site. I don’t mind paying a deposit if you have karma’s. She immediately blocked me. How can I trust someone that just signed up and has no karma’s that requires a deposit. She said it’s for my no show, how is it a no show if I’m hosting? Anyway she blocked me, I wish her nothing but the best. Happy holidays everyone. Just wanted to see what y’all think.

    Short answer—I wouldn’t. I am not big on deposits but someone new is a total no go. There have been stories in the forums before about someone taking deposits then deleting their account. Buyer beware.

    If you're hosting, that's not a deposit- It's a travel fee and it's my understanding (I've never charged nor paid for cuddles, but I've been messaged by pros NOT looking for payment plenty of times) that's supposed to be built into the cost of the session. If she blocked you over it, you dodged a bullet!!

    Yeah i feel like her blocked me made my point lol. She didn’t say it’s a travel fee, she said it’s a deposit literally. I have paint deposits that went to the cost of the cuddle but they had numerous karma’s and had been on the site for couple of years.

    It’s sad that people do this, i hope she’s legit even though she blocked me.

    Never give a deposit if you aren’t comfortable doing so. For me, I only request a deposit and have it sent to me ahead of time if I have to drive to them and the drive is more than an hour.
    And a no show is totally possible even going to someone’s place. I’ve driven to someone’s apartment and they never responded or came down to get me. I sat in the lobby for almost a half hour before giving up and leaving

    Damn I’m sorry you had to go through that.
    Well something happened to me tonight, since i can’t host I have to book a room. I had a session with someone today at 9pm and they confirmed and I send my phone number but they never contacted me and never responded back on the site. I paid $150 for a room that i never checked in. It’s non refundable so yeah. 150 dollars for nothing. Made me really sad honestly.

    The original tale about the deposit is a familiar one. A high proportion of new professionals don't really know what they are doing, and freak out when confronted with the reality. Others do know what they are doing in another field, and falsely assume that everything in the cuddle world works the same way as it does in whatever were doing before. I have also encountered people with wildly unrealistic expectations, which obviously do not survive contact with an actual potential client.

    As for the no show (another familiar tale), consider Reporting them. You won't get your money back, obviously, and in fact from your perspective probably nothing will happen at all. But it will put them on the Mods' radar and a pattern of behaviour may emerge. You have my sympathies - there is basically nothing you can do about this. Professionals are required in principle to offer some form of compensation for short notice cancellations, although in practice it rarely happens.

    I completely agree with you @CuddleDuncan
    That person that was requesting a deposit got banned, and I didn’t even report them. I guess others reported her.
    For the no show I did report it and the Moderator put them on a 5 days timeout. I even stressed the fact my goal is so they learn not to do that to others.
    All I do is keep my side of the street clean, unfortunately there are bad actors from time to time but thats everywhere I guess.

    My personal rule of thumb is that I'll only consider a deposit if the pro has more karma than I do.

    So far, out of ~20 different pros, I've only paid a deposit to one of them. (And she was very well established)
