What did you do as a child that makes no sense to you as an adult?

Would love to hear all your silly non-sensical stories!

>

When I was young at the dinner table, I would sing Kentucky Fried Chicken while I dipped a drumstick in milk and threw it under the table.

One day I did it when my dad came home from duty still in his navy outfit. It hit him in the butt.

I don't remember what happened after that. A scream I think. I must have blacked out. :p

    Haha that’s a strange activity @Huggycatbear

I remember in 4th grade I threw a classmate’s pencil eraser out of the window. He had pulled my hair. Our school had 7 floors (old brick building). My class was on the 4th floor so it was a long way down. It was the old type of thick rectangle (brown gum) rubbery eraser that left little pieces. I had to go down to retrieve it and then sit in a chair outside of the principal’s office, in the hall for everyone to see how bad I was. So traumatic.

  • Cocaine and heroin. No sense at all .

  • I got older.

  • Spooked someone new in the area so bad he left the city … I used cycle to his place to scratch his bedroom window late at night or exhale air near his window with a dull whisper … he used to get scared and would blow a loud whistle … I kept at it for a few nights … one night he screamed so loudly that I ran away … after a few days found out he was unwell and left - I felt bad I wish I could have told him it was me

Climb people's roofs and jump from them. I was like 5. I remember hurting my tail bone, getting up and taking off running. That particular house had their playground very close to the roof. Let me rewind to the beginning; A group of lil boys and myself broke into the yard, got on the very top of the slide and jumped onto the roof. Instead of sliding down the slide, we slid down the front roof on purpose. I have no idea whose house that was and no my mom never found out about it.

  • I ate braunschweiger. We were dumb kids.

  • As a child I would complain about how much professional cuddling costs. Now it just doesn't make any sense to do that.🤔

  • @OhioMike 😭🤣🤣

  • Lol @pmvines and @IronicMaiden I read it together in a timeline. Little coked out mini-vines must have been a farting terror.

And honestly, the biggest truth. Wish I never got older.

@HUGGGGGG that is crazy. Omg poor kid! At least that may answer some strange noises I heard as a kid.

@Carrie_Anne Lol I remember those erasers. They could hit someone hard at a distance. Always left little stringy pieces.

@BellaAine I remember my friend climbed out tree in the back patio and hung from a branch. We kept telling him to let go. He wouldn't. He was so scared and crying with snot coming out. Finally we got him an older guy to get him down. His feet was only inches from the ground lol.

  • @Huggycatbear he was not a kid, much older than me - he was a young adult like around 25

  • Wanting to grow up. 😮‍💨

  • @HUGGGGGG Ohhh damn.

I also had a band teacher named Daniel Boone.

And one night my friends and I let air out of his tires, lipsticked the windows at his house, and then took his mailbox and threw it in the creek, eating his mail to "hide" the evidence.

Turns out he had slept with one of the kids in our school.

    Justice!

  • I spent many of my recesses talking to trees and the wind while reading books. I had plenty of friends (still friends with some of them!), I just preferred the company of the fairies. Still do, if I'm being honest 😅 And yes, I do still occasionally talk to the trees, though I don't hear them talk back as much as I used to. What can I say? I'm in camp never fully grow up!

  • @cuddlefaery I'm so with you!

I love trees. Still smile with childlike wonder when I'm on the trails. I still put my hand on a tree to feel it's energy.

I would never choose a life in the office staring at a screen if it wasn't paying the bills so I can be a child again.

  • Turning my garage sale yellow bike with the banana seat (and eventually my purple sparkle bike and red Kmart 10-speed) upside down in the driveway and spinning the pedals to dispense “ice cream” from my ice cream shop.

  • I believed that if you planted a fingernail in the ground it would sprout like a seed and grow into a rainbow but it would be a plain fingernail colored rainbow and so you'd have to go to the store and buy paint to paint it rainbow colors when it grew big enough 🤣🙈

  • @cuddlefaery That makes perfect sense to me. And it's not something to regret. Maybe we need a thread on things we did as children that it doesn't make sense that we don't still do.

@RebeccaKe one of my relatives daughter had a wish from santa claus to get her nails colored in christmas, so we had to paint them when she was sleeping, and that was a tough job.

  • @IronicMaiden please start that thread. I think that'll be so healthy to remind us of that joy we once held that can hopefully soothe us as adults.

Well, when I was a child I was preparing for future, so I thought that one day we will not have bottle lids because they are tough to make, so I collected all of them, put them in a bag, dag in ground and buried them. So, if anyone needs a bottle lid at any time, please let me know.

  • @Adam_Prof lmao do you remember where they are buried? It's like a time capsule thing.

  • [Deleted User]Adam_Prof (deleted user)

@Huggycatbear sure, send me your address and will be glad to send you all of them.

  • @cuddlefaery I still talk to my plants so to me it makes perfect sense. The one odd thing that I've experienced is seeing a small human like creature run from me(side of my bed) and vanish near the corner of the door. I don't think I heard it speak but it got startled/scared of me or just didn't want me to see it. It was not a fairy. It's not the first time but it's the most recent one. I should have searched for it but I just let it be.

@BellaAine This is interesting, but I think it's maybe your past childhood or memories that you were trying to get rid off. anyways, I hope you feel better after that.

  • @Huggycatbear that is me now lol I still like climbing stuff but now I get scared. It doesn't stop me from doing it but now a friend/family member has to help me get back down 😭

  • edited April 8

@Adam_Prof that could be a possibility. Our minds do try to process childhood traumas in strange ways in order to survive but it's very unlikely in that situation. The human like creature was recently and I don't do drugs or have any known mental health condition. I'm also very open about my traumas and self reflect alot. I am not scared of it or feel bad about that at all. I'm very curious by nature and love to dive into the unknown.

  • @VitaminJ growing up I never asked for a bike and I don’t think my parents could afford one because we were on government cheese and dehydrated milk for a while. But I remember friends with their bikes making ice cream, lol to this day I still haven’t gotten a bike I had one once, but I became too embarrassed to try and write it in eighth grade. Now I probably would have problems trying to pedal with my tummy getting in the way. I’d have to get a tricycle I think.

  • Believing adults had everything figured out
Now you realize most adults are just experienced kids improvising.

  • @liveninpjs I grew up on liver sausage as well for lunch. But I still will not eat regular liver. My brother was the same way. My dad would eat liver, but wouldn’t touch liver sausage.

@BellaAine I remember when I was young I would climb a ladder to get on a garage roof, but then I was afraid to get back down because I saw the gap between the ladder and the garage roof. Same thing happen at a park Indiana that had like a two-story slide you had to climb up the steps to get down and when I got to the top, the gap was too wide again and I was afraid, and everybody was behind me. The cool thing that Beach was in the movie The Blues Brothers as they were driving down the beach announcing about their one night show. But then we used to go to the upper Peninsula of Michigan to visit my grandfather‘s best friend cause he was born up there, my grandfather. And I remember all the streets are inclined and on the side of one of the streets was a staircase from like a basement level or something. About a good two stories I think. And I was climbing on the inside of the stairs railing, but down the steps kind of I don’t remember cause I was under 10 years old. But then I felt like about 10 or 15 feet and rolled down the steps. I got back up and started climbing the steps crying and my family came and I said I was OK cause I got up and walked away I was just so sore. Never did that again now I don’t try to climb too much just because I have to make sure whatever I’m climbing can take my weight.

Oh, then, I didn’t know when the next day started so when I went to sleep, which was usually before midnight and the day changed at midnight, I just assumed they changed like at 12 or 3 o’clock in the morning or something. They hadn’t taught us about time yet.

  • @Bear I can picture little Bear climbing that ladder and pausing. Tell him I'm right behind him holding that ladder for him. Making sure he doesn't fall and if he does I'm right there to catch him. Hugs to your inner child 🫂💖🐻
