I’ve got a question. In certain professions there are always background checks, however nowadays what’s becoming more common is the background checks of social media and other profiles of applicants, regardless of what they are. With that in mind I’ve seen friends lose job opportunities just for having certain types of profiles, these weren’t even ones like OF or anything like that, (just dating profiles) their reason? ‘It’s the appearance of potential unethical behavior’ that companies don’t want to hire someone. I did not know this prior to creating a profile. So now I have concerns about if a profile with this platform has potentially damaged my chance at a career in my field I’m studying to start in, even if I delete this profile it will still show up on a check, any advice on how to navigate this issue? Every person I’ve talked to has only told me, ‘it depends on the employer, I don’t know son,’ or my personal favorite ‘should’ve thought about that beforehand.’
