Preferably local coffee shops but I’ll settle for Starbucks if it’s the big option around. Often study Japanese there.
I'm not understanding the Starbucks love. But maybe it's because most of the ones I've seen had really uncomfortable, hard seats🤣 Didn't seem cozy to me at all.
They've gone away from being a 3rd space to just wanting customers in and out as quick as possible .
25 30 years ago they were cozy with comfy seats and much quieter. Barnes and Nobles too. You could sit a nice big comfy chair, read all day and not get kicked out. I wish to go back in my younger self in that era and just stay forever
My minivan. When I get home from work after driving in crazy traffic, and before going inside to my dog. I just sit there chill and check emails and text messages.
Growing up, I used to go to restaurants and talk with friends . They would always refill your coffee or ice tea. After they drop the check off and you finish your meal, you never seem to see the waitress again.
Left a bar without paying for my drink once. But the waitress never came back to my table for over an hour. I tried to find and get her attention myself. But I did not have any luck. If id had cash I'd have just left it on the table but I only had my card when it was clear they had completely forgotten about me and weren't coming back,i gave up and went home. Even looking back at my table to see if anyone was going to come running after me.
I feel like my answer is kinda basic but I'm such a nerd I literally used to hang out at the library without my parents even making me. Was obsessed with all sorts of different types of books as a young kid, and have fond memories of my non English speaking grandparents taking me to the one that was right across the street from us. I learned several languages just from reading alone by the time I was 18!

In Toronto it was common for libraries to have comfortable cushioned reading nooks where you could literally curl right up with your stack of books and drift away. I think I'm really blessed to have had that experience and developed an appreciation for such a simple and affordable earthly pleasure.
Anyways now I live in a suburb of NYC where there are so many diverse options, and a typical hangout for me is to go to one of my favorite restaurants - the kind that's just a cheapo hole in the wall. Nothing too fancy. 3.5 Star type places are the golden mean.
The staff know me and my usual order by name and that makes me feel like a queen haha. But you could point to any random item on the menu and know it's good quality. Always leave souper satisfied! I get told all the time I should start a food blog cuz every place I go is such a hidden gem. I don't even consider myself that much of a foodie but going out to eat is the purrfect way to get to know someone. But I'll also dine deadass alone and I'm not embarrassed aboot it at all lol :P
I have a few ... My favorite park it has small lake and a big open spaced grassy area surrounded by trees, the beach, my favorite pool table

Is this for solo hanging out or with friends/people?
While coffee shops can be a good place for a first meet due to the number of people around, in general I prefer quieter places that are less overstimulating. Parks, book stores, libraries, people's homes.

@SpicyNSweet i think Starbucks is the better deal when it comes to getting straight up tea or black coffee, plus you get free refills and they have the point system. Plus it’s more convenient in that even if you’re out in the middle of nowhere you can be sure a Starbucks is nearby. Otherwise I’d much rather go to an independent coffee shop for a much better atmosphere and food selection.
EDIT: Yes I do hang out at Disney parks as well, specifically EPCOT and Magic Kingdom and sometimes Disney Springs.
@disneysamurai I happen to live in Washington state so we are blessed to have a massive amount of independent coffee shops! 😁 I've always preferred those myself. And when I travel I don't like to find chains. I much prefer to find little hole in the wall joints, local gems, Mom and Pop places.
@disneysamurai oh so you're pretty close to Orlando then? I grew up in LA so we used to go to Disneyland all the time. ❤️ This summer our family is taking a trip to Orlando for a week to celebrate our oldest son graduating high school

@SpicyNSweet awesome, I’ll have to check it out. I love visiting old downtown areas that have been revitalized and have the coffee shops.
And yes, I live right next to the Disney parks although I used to live in downtown Orlando. Only remember going to Disneyland once but I recall there were a lot of things there that were better than at WDW. Have fun in Orlando and let me know if you need any recommendations.
