🩵Planning the next Chicago meetup🩵

edited June 9 in General

Since the meetup wrapped up, the most common question has been “When’s the next one?” We’re working on it.

The big park event will likely be an annual thing given the logistics involved. For the next gathering we’re thinking smaller, lower key, and easier to pull off. A few ideas are on the table: public outings like a bonfire, arcade, or museum, or something more intimate like a movie night, or board games.

We’d love your input before we lock anything in. What sounds most appealing to you? Drop a comment or vote below.

More details to follow once we have a better sense of interest and direction.

  • I like the idea of a board game night or an Arcade gathering. There is a large arcade place near the park where the first one was hosted that has like vintage Arcade games but there is also an appeal to doing like a Dave and Busters meetup or something like that?

Either way I'm definitely going to make it out for the next gathering.

  • oh as for the movie night that might be cool if we planned to do something like a Drive in Theater? Illinois still has a couple of really good ones around. I was part of a social club for awhile that had a meetup at a Drive in Movie Theater and it was a lot of fun to do in a group since it's a bit more socially acceptable to chat and socialize during the movie rather than being in a closed in theater.

@Dennisk429 I’d love to do a drive-in, though I want the next one to be in the city since the distance to the last meetup made things harder.

I see a couple votes for a bonfire. We could do a cookout at the promontory point.

  • All those ideas are amazing, I'll be there at the next meetup count me in 💞🥰❤️

How bout we combine all the winning votes? Bonfire/Movie Night with some Karaokee?

We can create the drive in setting wth a projector and seating just need a location to do it in! EVERYTHING is mobile, "BYOC" BRING YOUR OWN CHAIR, Mobile popcorn station and individual snacks and bottled waters on ice. After the movie we do Karaoke:)

  • @Kokopantz
That sounds like so much fun if someone has a space for it! I have a space that would work for a movie night or a game night, and I have possible locations for a bonfire and private karaoke. I don’t know of a place we could do it all.

  • @tranquilheart Makes sense on the distance. Something like the drive in may need to have a longer planning time where people can work out carpools.

Either way a bonfire or smaller cookout definitely works too. Looking forward to meeting a lot of you.

  • I would love to be a part of this. Definitely let me know when and where in Chicago.🫶

  • I would definitely love to go to a bonfire when it gets a bit cooler in the fall.

For the next one, probably something that’s easy to organize as well as to have conversations while we’re at it. Especially since there’s a lot of new interest from people that were not at the first one.

The cookout would probably be a good idea for a good next social gathering that’s easy as well as a good way to socialize

  • If it does indeed ever end up being an arcade the first things that come to mind are Galloping Ghost in Brookfield which is one of the largest arcades in the world with all games set to free play (just pay an admission to get in), Round 1 (there are multiple locations) - which has arcade games, bowling, karaoke rooms, and food, and Dave N Busters.

Something similar that comes to mind is Ignite Gaming lounge. I think more recently they added some arcade games, but mostly I think they were known for having home video game consoles set up on nice tvs with a library of games available, as well as a bunch of PCs for PC gaming, and in the back they have a couple of big rooms set up with the Rock Band video game which would function as a sort of interactive karaoke since there is a microphone along with the other "instruments" in case you still want to play along to a song you enjoy but are too shy to sing.

I also had said that if a space and tv were set up, I could volunteer to bring my own ps4 with rock band 4 stuff. I have two "guitars", drums, and several microphones (I'd just need to find others) and literally hundreds of songs to choose from (though a huge chunk will be metal, hard rock, or 80s stuff). Or as an alternative I also have rock band 3 on the ps3 that also has a mini keyboard/keytar as a choice with most of the same song library (most of the songs were able to transfer over to rb 4, but not all).

That's of course only if people would be interested in the future.

  • I will say I like ALL these choices on the voting though lol so it was hard to pick just one, but I got the itch to sing

  • It looks like people are most excited about a bonfire, with Karaoke and board games tied for second. I’ll look into locations within city limits. Safe to assume Saturday and Sunday are the best days for most people.

  • @tranquilheart Bonfire Karaokee Game Night it is lol yaaaaayyy!!! Lemme know what I can do to help ;)

  • Would love to be apart of this! Voted too ❣️🌼

  • Please have a meetup in the fall ! Would love to attend.

  • Just wondering if there were any plans for another meetup before the summer is over.

  • @tranquilheart HIYAH! Well I took a small hiatus to mourn my cuddle buddy I just lost and while was gone my account was flagged for some reason so I dont have access to it. Im here to help with anything u still need?

  • I would love to attend another meetup before the summer ends. Maybe a library room for some games?

  • Sorry for disappearing for a while! I had some stuff to deal with, but I have been keeping this in mind. I’m thinking that August 15 is a good date to do a meet up over at promontory point off 55th. They have fire pits and I’ve been to a few good cookouts there. How does that sound to everyone?
