Are you a C** Blocker?

Be honest: are you a CAR blocker? (When someone tries to merge on the highway do you speed up?, or do you back that thing up and let them inside?

  • I'm just as compassionate and cuddly while driving. I give them room if I can.

  • I'm not particularly nice when behind the wheel, but I'm very risk-averse when driving and will almost always give room to other drivers.

  • Depends what is safer.

  • I basically drive like a bat out of hell, but I’m super courteous to other drivers. I’ll stop to let people turn, to let them pull out, give them plenty of space to merge, move over to let others pass, wave thank you, all of that. There’s a big difference between how you operate your vehicle and how you interact with other people on the road.

Sometimes speeding up really is the best way to give someone room to merge, it just depends on how fast they are going and how close they are, you just have to use good judgement to decide what works best for them.

But to those who see you coming and speed up to prevent you from merging in front of them and you have to figure out how to slow down enough to get behind them and then speed back up to do a safe merge, yeah they can go to a hot place.

  • I do whatever is safest usually. Also I thought this was a c++ thread initially.

  • @JasonCuddles In both driving and programming, races are to be avoided.

  • @thefirsthello we drive the same 🤣🤣

Don't know how it works in the states but if I am on a motorway and I approach traffic coming onto the Motorway via a slip road, if I am in the left lane I move to the middle or right.

  • It depends. Usually I let people in if they are driving like normal. If I see someone driving selfishly and cutting people off left and right to get to the front and constantly switching lanes, then I am more likely to stick closer to the person in front of me. Not always the case, but I'm more likely to let people in that aren't driving like they own the road. That being said I try to avoid the actual highway/freeway and stick to the streets whenever possible.

I mean you can certainly let some people sometimes but you can't do it for too many cars all the time or you and all the people behind you will severely delay getting to your own destination.

I learned to set a limit of like ok I can let 1 or 2 people in and the rest have to depend on the vehicles behind me for a little courtesy.

  • @thefirsthhello. Word. There's a special place for those kind of drivers.

  • I do whatever I can to avoid an accident because if I’m in one I will have a much longer maybe painful and very expensive delay (if I survive it). It usually only adds a few seconds to let them in.
As I always say - Prevent problems. And when I learned to drive, we were all taught defensive driving.

  • Better to be predictable than nice, I think

  • as a long haul trucker most cars on the highway INFRURIATE me by the way they drive. i will see a car coming down the onramp super fast, so i let off gas pedal and think "cool, he's in front of me now, he'll merge in and speed off" and that mf starts braking... SMH.

also many times i will change to left lane to allow a car to merge and that ahole will just hang out right beside me instead of speeding up and being on his way.

  • Commuting is like dancing... I can't stand when people treat it like a competitive sport, like someone ahead of them is somehow a hit to their ego. If that's your thing try nascar or something. I speed up or slow down depending on what makes sense in the moment. It's all about smoothness.

  • If they use their turn signal I'll let them in. If not, particularly if they are trying to "out-position" me, I'll speed up and block them. Bwahahahaha!!

  • @soba it's so sad that most people don't understand the 'zipper merge' when a lane closure happens. become crabs in a bucket which makes traffic worse.

  • It really depends, if people are driving super slow or fast, I always try to get away from their space and haul a** so neither are near me xD

  • @JessieKitties I feel that I'm totally the same way that's my verdict LOL

  • If they're dominant enough about it and actually know what they're doing and good drivers like if they cut me off with plenty of space in front of my car and then don't slow down and make me slow down... Then I'm totally into it. Go places!

But what I really don't like is people that are bad drivers or chaotic nervous drivers and merge badly swerving get too close to my car and/or make me slow down to avoid hitting them. Gotta know how to handle yourself and your car is an extension of you.

  • I'm of the opinion that backing that thing up is the best approach.

If there’s no traffic and they’re slowly merging into the lane then I just quickly change lanes so neither of us feel stressed lol.

During traffic, etc = zipper merge always.

  • In this day and age, everything we've learned about defensive driving doesn't really work. In a recent driver's meeting I said "We have to drive offense and defense at the same time.

Leave the appropriate space and 4 cars will take it. Attempt a pass, and then that vehicle decides to speed up.
Or, attempt a pass and suddenly you have rearview mirror filled with someone inches off your bumper trying to push you to go faster (cruise control helps). Then they're dropping back, trying to look down the left shoulder and come zipping back up like Jeff Gordon in the draft at Daytona. Once you finally clear that passed vehicle (with a 1 ft of space), the bumper rider expects you to immediately move right, even though you're supposed to clearly see the passed vehicle in you rearview mirror. Now, once you have that space and signal you're moving, bumper rider decides they're jumping in that space, usually as you move.
Once they've jumped the gap I've nearly been forced into the left concrete median as they retaliate because I didn't move out of the way or they get in front and slam the brakes (on an interstate at 70 MPH).
Downside, if I'm in a company marked vehicle I can't flip them off, etc. Personal vehicle it's game on.

Quite a few years ago I was coming home from work, as I was getting off the exit a guy divebombed in from left because he waited to get off. He practically ripped the left fender off my Colorado. I put the high beams on and he let me know I was "number 1". Not too smart, he whipped into a gas station on the right after we crossed over the bridge. I went into the next entrance, drove thru the diesel pumps/truck area and headed straight for him at the gas pump. He probably didn't expect me to do that, and he took off back onto the street with me following. I chased him about 2 miles until he got lucky on a traffic light.
I guess when you see the fire engine red Colorado with a full chrome grill/headlight guard and highbeams you reconsider whether it was worth it.

I'm working on completing an install on my new truck. I bought an OEM sportbar for my 24 Colorado, installed it, ran a wire harness thru it to the battery, made spacers for the outer feet on a 52" 50K lumen light bar. I have to finish getting the switch/harness from the power side/battery thru the firewall, under the carpet and into the floor console where the shifter is. 50K lumens when turned on should be enough to X-ray whoever cuts me off.

  • Jeez, y'all. Whatever happened to "head out on the highway/ take the world in a love embrace" haha

  • Deep down, don’t we all drive for the points?

  • @wilderdude
"But you truckers have 18 wheels which means you can stop 18 times faster."
    /s

  • It depends how they are. If they have a turn signal on and they try while in the merging lane I will. But if they zoom past the merging lane onto the shoulder to get farther ahead, not so much.

  • Mostly try to be nice, but sometimes the curmudgeon comes out.

  • I picked # 3 but I am changing it to, No I'm a “SAFE” person and also it just holds up traffic if everyone don't cooperate.
