They could come back with a VPN/new name. And whether they can or would want to figure out where you live or not isn't the point. You're mocking people, plain and simple. You ask the world to accept you for who you are then you turn around and make sport of others. I don't see it as art. I don't see it as cool. It's another form of bullying and that's been around since humans have been around. It's hardly creative. Only boorish.
They could come back with a VPN/new name.
Okay, most of us are aware of that...
It's no more mocking than any of the other posts, to be honest. It's not like these comments/exchanges were ripped from users in good standing with the site. I could see an issue if that were the case. Lighten up, @Fairbutfirm ... Mark himself has commented on this thread applauding and probably got a chuckle out of the audio files posted, else this thread probably would have been shut down if he considered it "bullying". We poke fun via text at clients who can't respect the rules... why all of a sudden is there an issue when we decide to lament about the toxicity via voice and expression? This is my favourite thread @hogboblin has made, because it gives me belly laughs. And apparently I'm not the only one.
I realize he did. And he's wrong to allow it to continue. And regarding the other posts. I was not singling out yours. I was referring to the entire thread. My "you" and "you're" were meant to be plural for all who are enjoying and creating these audio files. Sorry, I've always considered talking about others behind their backs when they are not there to defend themselves to be a cowardly act. Not to mention it's not very nice. I thought we were nice people here.
This isn't "talking about others behind people's backs" though. It's taking comments/messages that were pasted on a public forum (with virtually no identifier attached) and creating something similar to dramatic readings, as one user referenced. Is a dramatic reading really a form of bullying when the subject matter is ridiculous and already obscene? What exactly do people who violate the terms of the site have to defend themselves from when it comes to a thread like this, when there is no identifier? Not going to go further as I'm not about to deter this thread into a debate, as per usual. Seems to be personal to me. You had the opportunity to comment your distaste when hogboblin posted his go at it just yesterday. But mine? Here comes the chariot.
I posted my distaste. Only not here. it went directly to Mark and the most active moderator I knew of.
And the "identifiers" are people's memories of having dealt with the people you are now mocking. Real people.
Luckily, those people are here to speak on the matter if they wish. If one of them sees this thread and requests the recordings be removed, I will happily remove them. I would happily message every single pro who dealt with these people (one is de-activated IIRC) and ask their opinion on it, but I'm not looking to start some hullabaloo here. @Mark @SoulcuddlerZ what are your official stances on this thread? I'm happy to modify my posts here if you believe they are of a bullying nature at your request.
They were members of the site. They ARE still real people. And it's cyberbullying.
@Catloaf Continue your posts here. I offer no opinion at this time.
@Fairbutfirm
It’s unfortunate that this thread doesn’t align with your personal tastes. However, numerous other people seem to enjoy it, to some extent. Perhaps “Thus Spoke” simply isn’t for you.
I see these dramatic recordings as a means to highlight the absurd in a comedic fashion, and to shed light on the astoundingly toxic and disgusting—in an attempt to weaken those things through humor.
I sincerely thank @Catloaf for her input, and for her awesome voicework. (I’m gonna go check out all of your most recent recordings now. I’m excited.)
I don't participate in or visit threads that I dislike
Numerous people enjoy stoning others as well. I mean, if that's your rationale.....Humans being humans. Just pack mentality at work here. Let's just call it art then we can be as cruel as we want to. Good plan...ready....break.
I thank you for sharing your concerns. Going forward, I hope that this thread won’t cause you much distress. I’ll refrain from interacting with you now—from drawing your attention back here.
I assure you it won't. In fact I listened to about 15 seconds or your first file, and the same on catloaf's first file. Only long enough to see what you were doing. I just wonder if any of you have considered that there may be people who are still members who had pleasant exchanges with any of those former members you are mocking. Who might have become friends with them. Gone but not forgotten.
@pmvines Usually, that's how I operate as well. But I also feel strongly about people being picked on and mocked, and feel like someone should speak up for those who have no voice. I just hope for the sake of the site owner that none of these comedians piss off the wrong person and something unspeakable happens. I'm no lawyer (yuck, never!) and not sure how liability works with these things but I know that I recognize when something could be stopped but is instead allowed or even encouraged.
@Catloaf
While I thoroughly enjoyed all of the recordings you shared, “Ron’s Yearly Supply of Love Telegrams” is something else.
Content-wise, it was flabbergasting; things got progressively more and more strange, and I think you did a superb job of conveying that. The voice you chose presented a person who seemed a little off at first, but it eventually brought to my mind Alfred Ashford (from Resident Evil: Code Veronica) and Salad Fingers (of Salad Fingers). I thought this was funny and horrible.
Your listing the emoticons he used had an awesome effect, too. Those bits were like brief reprieves: a breath of air before being plunged back into a weird abyss.
All in all, the recording offered a look into what professionals have to deal with, and it makes one wonder what horrors enthusiasts have dealt with. It’s a fantastic, entertaining, and eerie piece of voice acting.
@Fairbutfirm I appreciate that you have expressed your disapproval very clearly and in a respectful way. As there are currently no plans to close this topic, I think the sensible next step is to now leave it be.
Yes Sir, fair enough
Thank you
