The Pre Journey Journey

Some of you may have seen my forum post about my upcoming road trip (29 Aug-13 Sep) but I wanted to share the trip I've been on for two weeks. It's a DIET!!!! Fun right? I weigh in on weekly intervals. Week one I was 10 lbs down (couldn't believe it) This morning was the end of week two, down 16 lbs total. And no I'm not dehydrated, I'm going through water bottles as fast as ever. 4-5 of the 16.9ozers a day.

This is what I'm doing. There are 4 concepts/philosophies that all work to some extent for people. I decided why do one? Why not try to combine them?

  1. Portion control. The oldest formula there is. Calories in vs calories burned. If sedentary or just moving about with day to day activities, we can't take in as much as if we were out running 3 miles a day. Simple math right?

  2. Atkins, keto, paleo or some other kind of low carb. Low carb theory is simple also. Body burns carbs for energy until it can find none, then it burns fat and muscle. Eating protein keeps the muscle in tact and the result is fat disappears. Required discipline as we love our carbs and you need to make sure to mix in enough salad and veggies to get your nutrients. Atkins used to brag that you can lose weight and never be hungry. It's true. But I thought "why stuff myself with bacon just because I can...what if I only take a bite or two when I'm hungry, then put it away and get busy again?"

  3. Eating one type of food per day. You've seen the fad diets where a person eats only one thing. Terrible for getting the nutrients we need but I've seen people drop weight on them. Grapefruit diet was one my grandmother liked because she loved grapefruit. There was one a couple of friends did where they ate protein one day, carbs the next, one day was actually a DESSERT day and I think the 4th day was salad/veggies, then repeat, and they lost weight. I figured while I do not know for sure why that works, I have a theory. Maybe giving your digestive system one thing per day allows it to function more economically than making it sort out fats, proteins, carbs, sugar, etc, etc. So, what if I go low carb, go low portion, and eat only one type of food per day with a 10-12 hr water cleanse in between (last couple hours of being awake at night, 7-8 sleeping, couple hours in the morning, easy 10-12). So I am eating ONLY one food all day, but taking vitamins and making sure to have plenty of green veggie days.

  4. Exercise. I've lost 16 in 2 weeks just by combining 1-3 and have not even started working out yet. Didn't want to shock my body too much. I have been busy in the rental but nothing strenuous. Did some dumbbell curls last night. Have been doing tricep sets by living myself out of my computer chair keeping my legs at the same angle as my butt leaves the seat. But thats it.

so yeah.....on to week three. I started out on July 1 with an egg day. Had 3 soft boiled in the morning. Made a bunch of hard boiled and ate them when I'd get a hunger pain. Only one at a time, hours apart. Actually took me two days, so I had two egg days. Followed that up with a Tilapia day, no salt. Just lemon pepper and dill. Was delicious fish. I put a tupperware container right next to me if I'm doing desk work. I open it and take 1-2 forkfuls then forget about it. Amazing how my appetite quickly went from always hungry Mike to meh....I don't need to eat. I mean it was like day 3 and I seemed rarely hungry. So my meals I made thinking they would be gone in a day took 2. When I made a package of chicken breast, that one took me 3 days to finish and I ate NOTHING else.

After Tilapia I had a Kale day. Sauteed in coconut oil with garlic and red pepper flakes. Damn I was surprised it was tasty. I never eat that stuff. I have put it in power smoothies but that was it. But I wanted to chew this, not drink it. So I would feel sated. Even cooked for a few minutes it was chewy, very fibrous stuff.

Then was the chicken day.

I did a dill pickle day lol

yesterday was green beans with garlic and herbs

Today is SCALLOPS! Sauteed in butter with pepper. yum

So yeah I guess it takes some discipline but I helped myself by removing ALL foods I do not want to be part of this. They are gone. No temptation, no weakness. And I have to learn to eat my food cold after the first couple of bites. No longer woofing it down while it's hot. I'm grazing.

I worried about meat sitting on my desk all day but I've had absolutely zero stomach issues.

I'm getting veggies. Not every day but....I'm also taking 2 gummy multis per evening. Damn those things are tasty.

Finally, I weaned myself off my beloved morning cup o joe. Dropped sugar on day one. Then reduced the amount in the cup and the half and half until day 4, boom, none, and no caffiene withdrawal headache. Those suck.

    I'm impressed. ๐Ÿ‘

I think eating has sometimes for me been more of an occupation, than a need. I've been walking and running, and eating less, and choosing food better ; and lost about 20 - 25 lbs, over a YEAR.

I do my walking and running carrying a rucksack, which weighs those same 20 - 25 lbs, and it sure feels heavy.

  • @geoff1000 Oh man thats great. My knee would hate me if i tried that. Ill unload a truck but im not carrying weight just to do it lol

  • Three weeks in the book.....10, 6, 6......down 22! Yesterday two lobster tails lasted me the entire day. Today will be broccoli

  • good job...thats a lot of weight to drop in 3 weeks...mind if I ask what your starting weight was? Mis big guys can drop alot of weight fast...ask me how I know lol.. my heaviest was 352.2 pounds...that was in 2007....my lowest was 200 pounds in 2008....I have yo yo 's so much I should have frequent fat miles. Feb19 I weighed in at 298...the day I decided to get back on track. this morning I weigh din at 229.8. So I used this Covid downtime to my advantage instead of going the opposite route. Keep up the good work Mike

  • @RockRollCuddle 218 on 1 July, 196 on 22 July

  • @RockRollCuddle You lost 152lbs in one year?!
And almost 60 since mid Feb (5.5 months)?!
How are you doing that? And has there been any negative side effects? From what I've heard, loosing too much too fast can overwhelm your internal organs. But I'm not in the medical field and am honestly interested in how you managed to do that.

I've passively lost around 25 since March (having the flu followed by not accessing fast food are to credit) but I have a long way to go and would like to make a shift to something intentional.

Anyway, if you're willing to share, feel free to PM me with the details if you don't want to put them here.

And way to go @AceCuddlerMike! Sounds like your plan is working! I went back and re-read your initial post... You have some hard-core discipline! I think I'm going to try adopting one of those a week (except no coffee ~ that would require a major shift in my functional adulting/life approach) and see how it goes. For sure the carbs will be the hardest thing to avoid... They're my favorite and they're everywhere!

  • @quixotic_life Yeah I definitely made it easier by eating the carbs up and I mean everything in my space, which is a very large basement. My pantry, fridge and freezer now have ONLY the things I want to be part of this so to have carbs I'd have to order them for delivery or go get em. Nope. Coffee for me was more of a comfortable ritual. I love the smell probably even more than the taste. Sure it helps me feel like my head doesn't weigh too much for my neck to support when I first get up, but splashing my face with cold water does that as well, albeit without the sweet aroma of javaaaaa!

  • My grandfather had great difficulty losing weight. He tried having low-calorie meal-replacement bars / drinks, but found he was still hungry, so ate his normal meals afterwards.

  • Huh... @AceCuddlerMike I just found this:

"The smell of coffee and coffee scented products have been found to help perk you up as well as helping regulate sleep and reducing stress. With a coffee scented candle you can enjoy the same benefits of that rich and robust coffee scent without having to even make coffee." | from vanillaandlime.com

And also found this ~ https://www.google.com/amp/s/thequeenbean.blog/2019/11/08/upcycle-your-coffee-grounds-into-a-homemade-coffee-cup-candle/amp/

    Whoo-hoo ~ A project!
    โ˜• + ๐Ÿ•ฏ = ๐Ÿช”โ™จ๏ธ๐Ÿ’– ...&... ๐Ÿ˜ณ?
(and I'll feel alert?) we'll see...

  • @geoff1000 Haha : ) Yeah as successful as the seefood diet...you see food, you eat it.

  • @AceCuddlerMike
    ๐Ÿ˜€
I tried a New Year's Resolution to not eat between snacks, but that didn't work either.

The cinema lockdown is helping me though ; a big hot dog and a tub of ice cream, would kinda spoil any discipline over the day.

  • @geoff1000 You're reminding me of Steven Wright : )

    One of my favorites:

  • edited July 2020

@AceCuddlerMike you are after my heart with that video! Love Steven Wright ! He and Mitch Hedberg type of deadpan irony and wordplay has always made me want to piss myself

  • @pmvines Yeah he's a funny guy. Even unscripted, a natural. Even had Conan laughing. I like Conan too.

  • @geoff1000 ~ Unless we end up speaking irl, I don't know if I'll ever be able to read one of your posts again without hearing it with Steven Wright's voice and cadence. ~Lol~
And if turns out that's actually how you talk ~ I'll probably passout from laughing and loving it too much!

And @pmvines ~ I just looked up Mitch Hedberg! OMG! Barely 5 minutes in and I had tears!!! ๐Ÿคฃ

  • @quixotic_life
My speaking manner isn't that far off . . .

  • @geoff1000 ~ ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜ต ~ Lol
    ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿฅฐ I love it!!!

  • @quixotic_life : I have found only single method that has worked for me : Juicing.

I have done 3 rounds about a year ago (between 12-24 days each) and altogether lost over 70 pounds. At 6'3" and having the chest of a Viking, couldn't really see it too much (did see it on clothes size though), though as I happen to have a uniform distribution.

The single hardest thing was cooking and portioning the chicken for my Husky every day, while drinking green Kale juice .

It was infuriating seeing her huff and puff over the chicken (as Huskies do)!!!

As much as she wants to taste everything I have, after taking a sip of the Joe's Mean Green, she gave me a perplexing "WTF's wrong with you" look.

  • @Siberian76 ~ I may have given you the same look ~ Lol!

There used to be a juice bar downtown that was so good! I think it was lemongrass that I'd always get double of --- I miss that place.

    looking up juicers now...

  • Careful with the Good tasting juices. They have often so much sugar from fruits that it completely negates any weight loss.

During one of those 3 runs, I made an experiment where I doubled the ratio of fruits from 20% to 40 %.

The weight loss ground to a halt immediately.

Now, the juice was really, really good, but technically you are still hungry and suffering, just without results.

My best results were on my first run where I kept the fruit ratio under 15% and lost over 37 pounds in 3 weeks.

From experience, I would recommend starting at 10% and gradually add a bit more fruits each week, as each week the juices get progressively more disgusting and no amount of hunger can overcome the Puky Green Smell...

  • Dang.....only 3 lbs this week. 25 total >: |

  • @AceCuddlerMike - 25 total is impressive. Well done.

  • @Sideon Thank you. I guess it was inevitable it would slow down. Guess I gotta start working now

  • I heard that liquidising the fruit to a drink, breaks up the cells, so losing the slow-release benefit of the fruit. Eating fruit is better.

  • 3 lbs again....190. First time I got on it was 189 but stepped off and back on and calling it 190. Pushup count is getting higher though : )

  • So many packets of food say, "Once opened, consume within X days". Not helpful.

I stayed with my parents recently and put on about 1 lb / day. I was reminded of the scene in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" where he says to Kate Capshaw that on her plate is "more food than these people eat in a month".

  • It's amazing how little I can exist on and not even be hungry. I had no idea

  • @AceCuddlerMike
The first few days are definitely the most difficult. After that, it's differently difficult, which might mean easier.

This is kinda my point about going without touch for too long, perhaps losing the appetite for it.

  • Another weigh day, another three lbs. My middle digit is an EIGHT!! 187 and 31 down since 1 July

  • Cus its 187 on an undercover cop

Sorry I like 90s gangsta rap
