Fraud doesn't have to be loss or gain of money, and it can be only an increased risk of loss or gain. If someone gives me money to buy them lottery tickets with specific numbers, and those numbers don't come up, it's still fraud against them ( as well as the lottery company ) if I instead pocketed the cash.
Officially submitted texts require a declaration that something is their own work, and then if it isn't, that declaration is false, and hence fraud ( or conspiracy by those who helped ). In other situations, authorship is only implied.
Copying someone else's profile isn't that, but it could cause unfair gain to the copier ; and unfair loss to the one copied, if someone thought the roles were reversed. With pros of any sort, reputation and customer perception have financial implications.
Writing someone else's schoolwork could be fraud, against the other pupils and the recipient's future employer. Think of "Jumanji, Welcome to the Jungle".

@beach_cuddles Here's a couple of other definitions of fraud, in addition to decieving someone for financial gain there's these fun snippets.

Focusing solely on a single definition/usage of a word in a situation like this doesn't really make much sense, this is like if someone was talking about metal music and another person interrupted to say that Slipknot isn't on the periodic table so it doesn't count as metal/it's incorrect to refer to it as metal.
In terms of legal usage, not sure if this would be correct. In terms of other usage and definitions as @Envie has pointed out (and is pretty evident) it's completely fine to refer to what OP did as fraud because of the flexibility of words and their meanings/usage. If we were strictly talking about legal fraud then that'd be another matter, but we aren't.
Whether this would technically count as fraud, there's some food for thought there @geoff1000.
They say “imitation is the highest form of flattery” but I agree it feels awkward when someone else uses our profiles (“about me” section not about them lol 😂 word for word. It’s happened to me atleast 3 times on this site.
I e had some ask if they could take a snippet of it for their profile and of course I had no problem with it. You’re right @FishCuddles it’s very flattering, but this is just inconsiderate. I just think it’s even worse that she came to the forum to get high fives and “you’re so awesome” comments on something she didn’t even try to work at. Well, if she does come back, hopefully she’s learned her lesson. Make the About Me about you....

@beach_cuddles - Plagiarism is the act of taking somebody else's work and passing it off as your own without crediting the original author. It is a serious offense that will get you kicked out of college or fired from your job. It is a form of stealing. Somebody put time and effort into writing something whether it'll be a book, article, or profile on a site like this.
Also, it raises many red flags. They could have been here to scam somebody and didn't want to take the time to write a profile themselves unlike people who are actually serious about what this site has to offer.

As has already been pointed out, just because it doesn't fit the legal definition of fraud doesn't mean it's incorrect to use the word fraud when talking about OP due to the many meanings. I'm also smelling a troll.

Courts don't like their time being used on trivial issues ; so if the case of fraud could be proven, the damages would be so small, that court probably wouldn't award costs.
In a criminal trial, that would need much stronger proof of intent.
@geoff1000 exactly that’s proof that she did nothing wrong. Even if the proof was there the courts would decline it either way. plus like how I said before the account would of gotten BANNED instead of being paused if it was actually fraud, fraud is a federal and a felony charge.
@beach_cuddles I'm suggesting that a civil court would probably award a few dollars or maybe cents of damages, but the original author would have to pay 100s of dollars to make the claim. That doesn't mean there's no case, it means we all have more important things to do.

My goodness that was a lot of effort and writing from someone who couldn't articulate an original paragraph about themselves. My writing has been c/p here 3 times that I'm aware of. I've also seen my choreography presented by another company director, on stage, right in front of me and a theatre full of people. (I also did the college thing, so I'm aware of how offensive it is to the author, how discrediting to the non author, as well as the nuances of the word FRAUD.) It's ultimately trivial, but there is a very specific feeling of violation when people do this. It's just so icky. I hope if nothing else, this demonstrates that communication is an art, and an important one, and all pros are in fact, not the same.
If my neighbour's tree is overhanging my garden, and I pull off one leaf, and don't offer it to my neighbour ( but instead keep it or dispose of it ) ; that's theft.
However, that doesn't mean the police or courts would be interested in prosecuting it ; and hence likelihood of being prosecuted, is a poor way to define if something is or isn't a criminal offence.
