@quixotic_life it's good to be socially conscious. For some reason that seems to be something some folks ridicule like it makes you somehow weak. Like its patriotic to not want to help others ? And protest is rhe new terrorism . Cant have a peaceful demonstration without being labeled as radical and a threat to the national security.
@pmvines ~ Last time I went to a "Peaceful" protest here (that wasn't during the day), I found myself in a pack being funneled and I barely missed getting clubbed by an officer on horseback.
Part of why I don't go is because of what happens when the sun goes down. Their fear tactics used to control works! But if it weren't for those who put themselves in harms way, nothing would ever change. Nothing! I'm embarrassed to say I'm not involved and only show my support by talking with those who condemn the protesters, about why I think their opinion is wrong.
WHOA that video was intense 👌🏾@pmvines
These lyrics were a bit of a smack in the face the first time I heard them.
"You had something to hide: should've hidden it, shouldn't you? Now you're not satisfied with what you're being put through. It's just time to pay the price for not listening to advice, and deciding in your youth on the policy of truth. "Things could be so different now. It used to be so civilized. You will always wonder how it could have been if you'd only lied. It's too late to change events: it's time to face the consequence for delivering the proof in the policy of truth. 'Never again' is what you swore the time before—'never again' is what you swore the time before. "Now you're standing there tongue-tied. You'd better learn your lesson well: hide what you have to hide, and tell what you have to tell. "You'll see your problems multiplied if you continually decide to faithfully pursue the policy of truth. 'Never again' is what you swore the time before—'never again' is what you swore the time before."

...So how long has Depeche Mode been watching me, then? Geeez. (Note: I still adhere to this policy, but....)
When you feel you're alone Cut off from this cruel world Your instincts telling you to run Listen to your heart Those angel voices They'll see you to you They'll be your guide Back home where life leaves us blind Love keeps us kind It keeps us kind When you suffered it all And your spirit is breaking You're growing desperate from the fight Remember your love And you always will be This melody will always bring You right back home When life leaves us blind Love, keeps us kind When life leaves us blind Love keeps us kind
Linkin Park
pretty much anything by The pretty reckless (not a song title, just a general statement)
It's a funny thing about humility As soon as you know you're being humble You're no longer humble
It's a funny thing about life You've got to give up your life To be alive
You've got to suffer To know compassion You can't want nothing if you want satisfaction
Tonight the world looks like a different place Tonight the moon is turning on its face Tonight we find ourselves alone at last Watch out for the trap door Watch out for the trap door
It's a funny thing about love The harder you try to be loved The less lovable you are
It's a funny thing about pride When you're being proud You should be ashamed
You find only pain if you seek after pleasure You work like a slave if you seek out the leisure
Trap Door- TBone Burnett
Loved this song forever, but i still don't fully understand what the trap door is referring to.
Too Sick to Pray Willie Nelson I've been too sick to pray, Lord That's why we ain't talked in a while It's been some of them days, Lord I thought I was on my last mile But I'm feelin' okay, Lord And I'm glad that I called You today Never needed You more I woulda called You before But I've been to sick to pray Remember the family, Lord? I know they will remember You And all of their prayers, Lord They talk to You just like I do Well, I reckon that's all, Lord That's all I can think of to say And thank You, my friend We'll be talkin' again If I'm not too sick to pray
@Designergirl I think Trap Door references T-Bone coming out of a very rough time in his life and hoping it was real. Not getting trapped again. Good song, thanks for posting.
I really encourage everyone to listen to any of NF’s albums, if anyone is going through depression, anxiety or battling with a mental illness his music can help you, it helps to know you’re not alone in the ways you suffer through life ...
This is from his album ‘The Search’
CHANGES
I need a moment of silence I don't like change, but I'll try it I don't wanna hear what I should or I shouldn't do Why are they always defiant? See, all my emotions are liars All my emotions are violent They don't want freedom to find me Mention a name and everybody riots (change) Yeah, that's why I'm checkin' my vitals They keep on workin', but I know Breathin' don't mean you're alive so I bag up all of my trash and walk out on my tightrope Positive thoughts are my rivals (change) I'm tryna be be on their side though Should I feel comfortable? I don't Last year, I felt suicidal This year, I might do something different ![]
QL I'm so glad you didn't get clubbed peacefully protesting. As I told you before Portland is my spiritual home and i worry about you guys every day.
@Mmart thank you...gonna see if I can dig up an interview.
@Mmart, no dice.
@Designergirl Well, I enjoyed the song anyway.
Phil Collins - Take Me Home
I think this live version from 2004 is pretty good:
You put your right foot in You put your right foot out You put your right foot in And you shake it all about You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around That's what it's all about!
I'll do the Hokey Pokey I'll do the Hokey Pokey That's what it's all about!
You put your right hand in You put your right hand out You put your right hand in And you shake it all about You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn around That's what it's all about!
I'll do the Hokey Pokey I'll do the Hokey Pokey I'll do the Hokey Pokey That's what it's all about!
You put your left leg in You put your left leg out You put your left leg in And you shake it all about You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn around That's what it's all about!
You put your right leg in You put your right leg out You put your right leg in And you shake it all about You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn around That's what it's all about!
You put your whole self in You put your whole self out You put your whole self in And you shake it all about You do the Hokey Pokey and you turn around That's what it's all about!
@FunCartel do I feel another boner thread in the making 🤣
@pmvines ~ are you flirting with @FunCartel?
Adorable! 😘
I've been feeling Johnny Cash - "Hurt" for a while now. I've felt older than my age since at least high school, so "Hurt" shouldn't be too big of a stretch for me to be feeling.
And the horseflies are biting but the fish never do And your heart's a thousand colors but they're all shades of blue
GREGORY ALAN ISAKOV All Shades of Blue
When the wine stops working And you're all run out And all of your high hopes have all headed south And the songs left the stable and they never came home And there ain't no forgetting that you're out on your own Turned the scrub oaks to timber and you're left without friends And you don't put your book down even after it ends Smoke curls up from the table in your quiet little room And your heart's worn the handle of an old pushing broom Broken bottles shine just like stars, make a wish anyway Just your smile lit a sixty-watt bulb in my house That was darkened for days Been thinking you probably should stay When the going is long gone And the kick drum won't kick When you fumble with your fiddle and you're fresh out of tricks And the horseflies are biting but the fish never do And your heart's a thousand colors but they're all shades of blue Broken bottles shine just like stars Make a wish anyway Just your smile lit a sixty-watt bulb in my house That was darkened for days Been thinking you probably should stay Yeah, I think that you probably should stay And our dreams on the windowsill See those trees turning gold in the hills
Rage is the rage In this barbarous age Of bitterness spite and venom Brilliant designs On innocent minds And nobody there to defend them The terrible sights And the star studded nights the cathode lights are so blinding
But there's something new All the best people do It's free and it's fun and exciting
Compassion Yeah just compassion
Tolerance lives It's a gift you can give To try to create understanding I know that it's hard When you're hurt And you're scarred And life is so weird And demanding
I say live and let live Forget and forgive That may be why I am still standing
But there's a new style so simple and wild so stylish and free and abandoned
Why is it me you want to hurt I'd never raise a hand to you I know that I'm just a simple jerk But I am a jerk that loves you.
Compassion - David Baerwald
I may know the word But not say it I may know the truth But not face it I may hear a sound A whisper sacred and profound But turn my head Indifferent
I may know the word But not say it I may love the fruit But not taste it I may know the way To comfort and to soothe A worried face But fold my hands Indifferent
If I'm on my knees I'm begging now If I'm on my knees Groping in the dark I'd be paying for deliverance From the night into day
But it's all grey here It's all grey to me
I may know the word But not say it This may be the time But I might waste it This may be the hour Something move me Someone prove me wrong Before the night comes With indifference
If I'm on my knees I'm begging now If I'm on my knees Groping in the dark I'd be praying for deliverance From the night into the day
But it's all grey here But it's all grey to me
I recognize the walls inside me I recognize them all I've paced between them Chasing demons down Until they fall In fitful sleep Enough to keep their strength Enough to crawl Into my head With tangled threads They riddle me to solve Again and again and again
Natalie Merchant
Lost in skies of powdered gold Caught in clouds of silver ropes Showered by the empty hopes As I tumble down, falling fast to the ground I know I'll wither so peel away the bark 'Cause nothing grows when it is dark In spite of all my fears, I can see it all so clear I see it all so clear
Woah Cover your crystal eyes And feel the tones that tremble down your spine Woah Cover your crystal eyes And let your colours bleed and blend with mine
Making waves in pitch black sand Feel the salt dance on my hands Raw and charcoal coloured thighs Feel so cold and my skin feels so paper-thin I know I'll wither so peel away the bark 'Cause nothing grows when it is dark In spite of all my fears, I can see it all so clear I see it all so clear
But I'm okay in see-through skin I forgive what is within 'Cause I'm in this house I'm in this home All my time
Crystals ~ Of Monsters and Men
"Something Wonderful" from the musical "The King and I"
This is a man who thinks with his heart, His heart is not always wise. This is a man who stumbles and falls, But this is a man who tries. This is a man you'll forgive and forgive, And help protect, as long as you live... He will not always say What you would have him say, But now and then he'll do Something Wonderful. He has a thousand dreams That won't come true, You know that he believes in them And that's enough for you. You'll always go along, Defend him where he's wrong And tell him, when he's strong He is Wonderful He'll always need your love And so he'll get your love- A man who needs your love Can be Wonderful.
She'll always go along Defend him when he's wrong And tell him when he's strong He is wonderful. He'll always need her love And so he'll get her love A man who needs your love Can be wonderful
Hello Again - Neil Diamond
Hello again, hello Just called to say hello I couldn't sleep at all tonight And I know it's late But I couldn't wait
Hello, my friend, hello Just called to let you know I think about you ev'ry night When I'm here alone And you're there at home, hello
Maybe it's been crazy And maybe I'm to blame But I put my heart above my head We've been through it all And you loved me just the same And when you're not there I just need to hear
Hello, my friend, hello It's good to need you so It's good to love you like I do And to feel this way When I hear you say, hello
Hello, my friend, hello Just called to let you know I think about you ev'ry night And I know it's late But I couldn't wait Hello
Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin Dance me through the panic till I'm gathered safely in Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove Dance me to the end of love Dance me to the end of love
Oh, let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon Show me slowly what I only know the limits of Dance me to the end of love Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long We're both of us beneath our love, we're both of us above Dance me to the end of love Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the children who are asking to be born Dance me through the curtains that our kisses have outworn Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin Dance me through the panic till I'm gathered safely in Touch me with your naked hand or touch me with your glove Dance me to the end of love Dance me to the end of love Dance me to the end of love
Leonard Cohen
I spent my time, watching The spaces that have grown between us And I cut my mind on second best Oh the scars that come with the greenness And I gave my eyes to the boredom Still the seabed wouldn't let me in And I try my best to embrace the darkness In which I swim
Now walking back, down this mountain The strength of a turnin' tide Oh the wind so soft, and my skin Yeah the sun so hot upon my side Oh lookin' out at this happiness I searched for between the sheets Oh feelin' blind, I realize All I was searchin' for, was me Oh oh-oh, all I was searchin' for was me
Oh yeah, keep your head up, keep your heart strong No, no, no, no, keep your mind set, keep your hair long Oh my, my darlin', keep your head up, keep your heart strong Na, oh, no, no, keep your mind set in your ways Keep your heart strong
Now I saw a friend of mine, the other day And he told me that my eyes were gleamin' Oh I said I'd been away, and he knew Oh he knew the depths I was meanin' And it felt so good to see his face All the comfort invested in my soul Oh to feel the warmth, of his smile When he said, 'I'm happy to have you home.' Oh oh-oh, I'm happy to have you home
Oh yeah, keep your head up, keep your heart strong No, no, no, no, keep your mind set, keep your hair long Oh my, my darlin', keep your head up, keep your heart strong No, no, no, no, keep your mind set in your ways Well keep your heart strong 'Cause I'll always remember you the same Oh eyes like wildflowers, oh with your demons of change
May you find happiness here (Keep your head up) (Keep your heart strong) (Keep your head up) (Keep your heart strong) May all your hopes all turn out right Keep your head up, keep your heart strong No, no, no, no, keep your mind set, keep your hair long Oh my, my darlin', keep your head up, keep your heart strong No, no, no, no, keep your mind set in your ways Keep your heart strong
'Cause I'll always remember you the same Oh eyes like wildflowers, oh with your demons of change
