@spuds Yes, but the claim I was refuting is the election caused the hate. Trump preceded this election. He gave them legitimacy a long time ago, after he had quenched his more exotic tastes with Epstein.

@pmvines I totally agree with your thoughts. I have both conservative and liberal values and tend to weigh the issues independently of political reasons. I do feel that President Trumps behavior has given many people the license to be rude and mean.
When you vote in the US election, you aren't voting for a person, you are voting for a system of government for the next four years, basically capitalism (Republicans) or socialism (Democrats). Do you know the difference? Here's a video that explains it. I'll probably be accused of spreading 'propaganda'.
@UKGuy gets it. Unfortunately, many do not. It's all emotional for them and focused on ONE person (i.e..Obama haters, Trump haters, etc), rather than what the PARTY stands for.

@MrFirefighter True, but in this case ONE person has damaged that party for years to come. And parties are not either capitalism or socialism—there are several people within each party that fall along different points of the political spectrum. Anyone who believes in such simplicity that Republican=capitalism and Democrat=socialism has been manipulated and fallen under the spell of a charlatan of some sort. In short, if you believe in such simple dichotomies then you drank someone’s kool-aid and are no longer thinking critically.
I dont care who you voted for and will accept the results of the election even if it's not my chosen candidate. ...because that's what adults do.
@Mike403 It's what adults do, plus by challenging the results (and if he were to succeed in overturning valid results), then he would succeed in undermining our democracy and our system forever potentially paving the way for other carnival barkers to come along and succeed in ruining our county, our system, and our way of life for good (in addition to the damage he's caused all ready and the damage he would cause if he had four more years)

@Mike403 excellent point, an enlightened approach. The voices of reason are appreciated, as they help maintain civility in a sensitive discussion. As for me I do admit, I’ve not been so reserved. It’s just that it’s been 5 long years of trying to tune out that one loud voice.

@quixotic_life I feel the power of your words. I think the point made was that in an election we must accept the will of the people, with respect to the candidate that was elected. This is what the current administration needs to do. And they’re doing exactly the opposite. But if the election doesn’t go our way, that doesn’t mean we must fall silent, on the matters that are important to us. By any means. If anything, we should feel more energized to speak and act. For the past 5 years I’ve only felt revulsion when I’ve listened to this president. All my life I’ve pretty much remained silent on politics (in a public sense). It’s only now that I’m starting to find my voice. I’d like to speak passionately to the other side, but I know that I would be the only one to pay attention.
I applaud your decision to rule out cuddling with people who support the current administration. It is beyond a doubt your choice to make. There has to be some level of compatibility between people sharing these tender moments. And of course that extends further out to those with whom we associate.
As for me, I’m about to spend some time with a very nice lady. I haven’t asked her where she stands on the election. I’m assuming that she feels like me, but at this moment I’d rather not know. Because I’d like to forget about the election for a while. (Even though I keep attempting to refresh results that I know aren’t getting updated 🙄)

IMO, it is not a political choice to boycott someone who supports HIM, but a humane choice to not condone someone who allows families to be torn apart, who calls defenders of our country suckers, and women to be objects of sexual amusement with or without their consent. He is a despicable human being with no discernible redeeming value that I can detect. Why should you render comfort to someone who supports such evil? Republican and Democrat labels are not suitable for him. He is evil incarnate.
@spuds high paying office jobs using a computer . You see a lot of these work under the guise of "specialized skill" but some if it are just clerical , repetitious and some are management which americans can do.
I don't support Trump. I never have. I just don't like negativity because it's very stressful to me so I try to keep things positive. I'm sorry.
I didn’t vote for Trump but personally I don’t see any good out of cutting people out of my life who have done me no harm other than checking a box on a piece of paper. I have close friends who voted for him and have never once disrespected me , or been anything other loving and welcoming to me. I’m sure they have their reasons for voting for him but we don’t spend our time together arguing over politics. Same with people I cuddle with , Im there to get a physical need met .... once that’s over and done with what you do with your views is your business doesn’t really concern me nor do I really care. And the couple of people I’ve befriended here on a deeper level wouldn’t push me away if their views were different either just based on how they’ve treated me.

Oh my goodness Mike, your opinion didn't upset me! I mean not as it being your's alone... so please don't think the following is only directed at you... it's a blanket of rage for people's need to be "nice". IMO - The time for nice is past.
What I'm struggling with is the overall lack of moral outrage by those of us on the left, and the right. To not openly, and loudly condemn, those who voted for that sleeze bag ~ They may as well be condoning it.
No matter who wins this race - I have boiling rage toward those who knew full well what they were voting for. One's political affiliations shouldn't equal allegiance. To cast a vote for him was a message to the masses that you (the voter who voted for him) are perfectly content to continue the rise of hate groups (and other bigoted, misogynistic, racists a-holes!).
I give zero sh*ts about his handling of Covid - his corrupt incompetence has been loud and proud since before he took office, plus funneling the money of actual taxpayers to his fully unqualified family members? Come on!

I'm upset that the majority of rational people aren't completely losing it over what this election shows. Which is that our friends, neighbors, community members, people we've never met - Anyone who is a person of color - is waking up every day to the reality that nearly half our nation just voted that they don't believe their lives matter. That women are waking to the fact that (from our toxic rape culture, to receiving appropriate health care, to abortions) they aren't worthy of having a say in what happens to them. That those who identify as LGBTQ+ are waking to the reality that they aren't considered to be worthy of the same rights and protections as the rest of our citizenry. It doesn't matter if people within those groups also voted for him. It sways my opinion zero degrees. People have been manipulated by fear and lied to. To the point they are voting against their own interests, and everyone else's too (except rich white men).
So yes - I'm thoroughly pissed off!
How anyone can listen to him and still vote for him is beyond me, and I just can't find it within me to be gracious in any way whatsoever towards anyone who did. Even if I could. I'd refuse to do it. Shame on all of them!
And way to blow it! There were choices other than Biden, and they could have mounted a nation wide campaign to write someone in. But nope. Go with the guy who stands for everything wrong with society. It's fricken disgusting!!
@quixotic_life - I agree. The guy was mocking Biden for wearing a mask. Who does that? We are in the middle of a serious pandemic and he has been downplaying it since it started saying "It's going to go away". My dad voted for that guy and he told me that he doesn't really like Trump, but "he's better than the alternative." This whole election has been a circus IMO.
edit: I'd like to add that I normally don't follow politics. All I really know is how he handled COVID.

I do want to be level headed. But I'm so angry about what those votes mean. Like waterfalls of tears, stress hives, tension headaches, nausea, etc. Level of angry.
But I suppose some of that anger should be directed at myself for not realizing what has probably been clear to many for a long time. That hate is alive and well in this country.
I feel blindsided, and must be pretty naive, because I really thought he'd only get votes from those who enjoy burning crosses on lawns while hanging out with their buddies in their bath robes. But nope. Nearly half our citizenry thinks he's a good guy.
😭 I'm just really disappointed and the whole situation makes me feel sick. 🤮
Plus, I have no idea how to reconcile all this or how to productively channel my rage... I've signed up to participate in the social justice and racial equity group through our district, but we haven't started meeting yet, and I don't know if it will feel like enough. Or if anything will.
