No matter where or when you go, it's gonna be pretty much impossible to avoid living in or at least dealing with a society made up of humans.
Humans in general don't change, but culture and society do—what have you been socialized to handle? There are aspects of the culture you were raised in that you're so familiar with you take them for granted, but not every culture throughout time has done or will do.
Outside your own time you really will be the ultimate outsider. You'll always be strange; you'll never quite fit in.
This will make survival more difficult than you may expect. Humans don't generally respond well to strangers, foreigners, peculiar people, those not like them in some way. And as a temporal non-native, you'll be more different than perhaps you know.
So.
Me, I have enough trouble fitting in here, in the time and place, culture and society I'm most familiar with! Why would I make things more difficult for myself by moving?
Why would I exchange the problems I've already learned to deal with for new ones completely unknown to me? I've built a good life here and now, and I'm content with it. The only thing that would tempt me to move is immortality, waiting to be picked up in some other place and/or time.
Barring that, here and now works just fine for me; I don't even want to visit anywhen else.

Something else for would-be time travellers to consider: depending on how far back you go, communication with the locals would be difficult, if not impossible.
Let's use the Middle Ages as an example, as it's the period of history that I've read most about.
Depending on their geographic location, and the company they'd want to keep, the time traveller would need to learn one of two languages: Latin, or the language used by the peasantry. Both would be ideal. But, with that said, the chrononaut's manner of speech would give them away as an outsider immediately. And one couldn't really exist as an outsider in the Middle Ages. Communities were tightly knit, as people relied upon each other to survive.
So yeah, being a time traveller would be hard, for a multitude of reasons.
As for me, I have no desire to go back in time. Mainly because, as you go further and further back, religion becomes more all-consuming. Things are irritating enough now with Christians whining about the sanctity of life,how the godless liberals are persecuting them, and how their religion is one of love and acceptance because their need to feel good about their chosen fantasy supersedes the actual content of said fantasy. Back in the good ole days, when Christians got upset, people were tortured and viciously murdered.

I know I'm late but @CuddleDuncan I was more so referring to the mentality I feel like the boom of the social media era has caused, especially with woman, music and fashion however I would love to take a trip into the future ( as a Star Terk fan especially ) but I was just answering the forum question, I don't think you had to shoot down our responses like that, it's all in fun I definitely don't want to live in the past but I can appreciate your perspective and spin on the question.

@UltimateChungus ah that's actually one of my favorite topics. Ancient Rome for nearly a thousand damned years had temples to pretty much every deity under the sun including those diametrically opposed with nearly ZERO drama. Then the Christians came on the scene and were ""persecuted"". Never mind the fact that pretty much every other religion had a you do you we'll do us attitude and would have happily left them alone if given the option. Nope the fact that the monotheists liked to get in everyone's face and tell them their beliefs were wrong and their gods at best didn't exist and at worst were demonic entities of evil leading them astray and damming them to hell couldn't possibly have any thing to do with their treatment by the other religions of the time right? Of course not I mean it's not like they all got along with eachother just fine (for the most part) up to that point.
The fact they were actively trying to undermine the government couldn't have added fuel to that fire in the least that's just a crazy notion. I could go on but it would go from civilish sarcasm to out right rantish so I'll stop.

I've just thought of an answer to this. I'd go back about a fortnight, armed with a set of newspapers. I would have my 15 minutes of fame, correctly predicting football results, the weather and political developments down to the minute. Winning the lottery two weeks in a row would raise eyebrows, so perhaps I'd wait for a big rollover and win it just the once.
What a week that would be!
I would go to the dentist first though, just to be on the safe side.
I’d go back to 1999-2001 and have better conversations with my high school crush in ASL. That’s one of very few things in the past I wish I could change. I mostly accept the past as it is.
I’m just too old to genuinely desire reexperience my entire childhood without the brain malformation that I had surgically corrected in 2001. Look how old I’ll be 18 years from now. So if I could go back and change something, it’d just be the two years mentioned above.
In 2020 CE, the world is still extremely unaccommodating to autistic adults like myself. Change the time period of my existence and I’m not being treated any better in a different time, especially centuries or millennia before but even just a few decades after.
@NightShift39 You do know that Judaism is far older than the roman empire right? Also the Romans were violent and had more revolutions than flies on a corpse. The crusader reputation that Christianity has: directly a result of the Roman Empire's remnants embracing it.

Class, race, territory, slavery, rulership, all of the above at once but very rarely large scale religious uprisings, well pre Catholicism days that is. But Mother church's list of crime and hypocrisy is hardly a topic for this site and I've gone horribly off topic as it is.
The 1960's in England was the best time ever. The music and fashions were an explosion of creativity that has never been equalled. It all ended by 1970. Sure technology has advanced since then but it hasn't made people any happier because instead of technology serving us, we are slaves to technology.

definitely forward in time. History does not treat women and minorities well. plus there’s more potential for governmental, social, economic, and medical advancement. not sure about the impact on the ecosystem & environment because people are people and they do what they do without regard to it. but my hope is that positive change happens.
....and lets not forget what life was like without having indoor plumbing
I think it would be interesting to witness major changes in history happening and be a part 9f certain social movements that made true long standing impacts on society.
The problem with going to the future is if you go too far and we already destroyed planet Earth (cue the Duran Duran). Even your grave would be gone.

1990,my life has been downhill from that point on.
I would absolutely not want to go back in time. In this day and age I have a lot of rights that were hard-won, and that I'm incredibly grateful for. I want to do my part to hold onto them and keep working toward equality.
That being said... if the future were to be like Gene Roddenberry's TNG universe, I'd consider moving there
I was born at the end of the 1970s, but the music from the 1960s-1970s is my favorite and have read that there was a beautiful, creative counter culture then, but most important would be to go to Woodstock 1969 three days of concerts! I have the music from then on CDs, but that is not even close to the real events. I would need to come back to the current time afterward, because I doubt that women could get a lawncare job back then!
Who me? I would go back to the late 70s early 80s when I was still a little kid and my father was still alive to try to get to spend more time with him. Life was also a lot less complicated from my perspective at the time.
