  • I LOVE any community or group that encourages people to seek help! <3<3<3
I was in a position where seeking help saved my life. I was taught valuable tools that allowed me to better manage my depression and anxiety and live a healthier life. I was able to approach loved ones I saw with their own struggles, and encourage them to seek help. I still see a therapist, and while it's a lot of work sometimes, I look forward to every session.

Thank you, @Sideon for this post!

  • This is lovely. Keep up the good work

  • Thank you for bringing this very real issue to the awareness of our forum.
I have the National Suicide Hotline info. but the Crisis Line that you can text is new to me.
    Greatly appreciate that information!!

  • I agree that it's very important to distinguish between a cry for help that we can provide and that which is better left to other professionals.

  • So true, and heartfelt...

  • Such a great post. Thank you.

    So, regarding mental health:

Is it okay to say, or insinuate, that the behaviors of others on this site (in either direct messages or forum posts) might result in you becoming so depressed that you could take your own life—or consider doing so?

Because that's manipulative. That's a tactic that emotionally abusive pricks use. Agreed, @HogboblinZwei - stating or insinuating that someone consider taking their own life is manipulative, abusive, and completely inappropriate. [-Sid]

    Additionally:

It's cool that CC is so open about helping others when it comes to mental health. But it's rather disingenuous to not even mention the toxic side of things.

To what extent will such behaviors be tolerated? To what extent are users of the site expected to accept said behaviors?

CC can provide mental health resources, but CC is not a site that provides therapy. [-Sid]

  • I do understand the urge to help. Especially if you see somebody going through something you've gone through or are going through yourself. But if the person you're trying to help is a danger to others on the site... well.

Where does CC draw the line? Where do we cut off our wish to help—where does it do more harm than good?

  • @hogboblin "Is it okay to say, or insinuate, that the behaviors of others on this site (in either direct messages or forum posts) might result in you becoming so depressed that you could take your own life—or consider doing so?

    Because that's manipulative."

You're right, that's absolutely not okay and should not be tolerated.

  • This thread is going to be paused for about 24 hours to give everyone time to cool down from a previous heated thread.
    No, it’s not okay.
Please be kind. People are struggling. Turning up the heat is not helpful.
That’s all for now. - Babichev

  • Came across this video on positive psychology. Liked the idea of cultivating anti-fragility i.e. resilience.

  • This UK based site helped me a lot when I was getting adult bullied in this organization 20 years ago. Bullying is not always what we think. This resource has helped me even in the last year at work and this new social group I was briefly involved with.

  • Thank you SO MUCH for this discussion. I am new here and am feeling my way around. Everyone had been warm and welcoming which is greatly appreciated.

I have been focusing on the Mental Health aspects of the whole phenomenon and how to use it as preventative Healthcare in children with a real diagnosis and prognosis of possible.

    Good posts. 💙💙💙

Have suffered from depression and anxiety all my life..past 6 years have been rough and a lot of changes have been made. Mental health is important. Too many people are afraid to express how they feel or talk about what they are experiencing because of the stigma and negativity attached to mh.. so posts like these are important so people know they are not alone. Thanks for posting the support contacts and resources too.

  • From the local news here in KC regarding a local celebrity going to the White House to promote mental health:

  • I just want to say, I am so glad I found this site! I’ve been dealing with clinical depression for as long as I can remember. The past few years have been especially difficult, I got hurt at work, had to have spine fusion surgery, lost my career, my girlfriend of 7 years left me after my surgery, and I had to cut my father out of my life. Overwhelming to say the least! I do see a therapist regularly (she’s awesome), and I take my meds, but since finding this site I’ve been feeling more hopeful! I wasn’t expecting to find so many other people like me, everyone I’ve chatted with has been so kind and understanding. I was scared at first to meet anyone out of fear that I would get emotional and ruin their time, then last week out of nowhere a woman messaged me, we talked for a while, and she made me feel so comfortable, she came over last weekend, we cuddled on my couch and watched a couple comedy movies. That day was the happiest I’ve been in years! I really am grateful for this site! Thanks for being so welcoming!

Mental health start with the attitude of gratitude ~ appreciation & thanksgiving...leading to choosing to live life. Remember the poster: 3 kinds of people -those who make things happen, those who watch things happen & those who wondered what happened.

  • @vuka

    Well said!

    Good post. Thank you, moderators.

  • 988 is a national Suicide & Mental Health Crisis hotline in the US. 💛

  • @shannont that is accurate.

I had someone cuss at me, insult me, and complain I was ungrateful because I didn't take his advice I literally said I didn't want in the first place. He was literally just giving me information I already knew and had said I already knew that was an option but wasn't what I had actually asked for. This was in a video game by the way and the options he was giving me that I already knew about, I wasn't high enough level to run yet which made the advice entirely useless to me. I had literally said before he even replied what my level was and that I couldn't run that content yet and he still replied to that post telling me I should just run that content I literally just said I was too low for.

This does often apply in real life too, people give advice like I literally haven't already tried that. My body hurts. "Why don't you take a pain killer then?" You think I haven't tried that already, I nearly over dosed on pain killers, they do not work for me. Whatever advice you're about to suggest I've already tried it, it doesn't do anything, If I wanted advice I would have asked for it but I didn't ask for you to solve my problems so why are you telling me things I already know?
