It all kind of boils down to what I said in part of my message to you, "Yes, I get it. It doesn't feel good to be on the receiving end of a lecture or a smack down. And back to my being on the receiving end (both in PMs and publicly in the forums)...
Do I think that my treatment was overboard and that my words were completely misunderstood? Absolutely. But I can also respect that the way I was thinking and feeling wasn't coming through for them and due to my own limitations I wasn't able to repair things.
And although it hurt, and they were both pissed and hurt, we can still be civil, give kudos, ask questions, etc. We're all still people and I personally believe we're pretty good ones.
We all mess up sometimes. Holding grudges takes far more energy and recall than I have at my disposal and is pretty much pointless as well. IMO...
Plus in the grand scheme of things, I think I'd invested more than I should have in what they thought of me (especially in one instance) and instead of investing in my own confidence that I wasn't guilty of doing something intentionally wrong, was more focused on trying to correct their perception of my intent.
Really, I should have just said, "I'm sorry that's how I came across, that wasn't my intent." Then asked if they were open to me trying to clarify/explain or if my apology was enough for us to move on. Or, I could have apologized then left it at that for a while so we could all cool off, and see if picking up later worked. But I didn't do either and it all spiraled out. In addition to other things I was called selfish. Which I took like a full-on smack in the face. But looking back, I was worried about their perception instead of their feelings. So yeah - I was selfish. And again, it hurt. But often times, the truth does.
Anyway, I'm sure if I tried I could've come up with a pretty solid one-sided argument in my favor. But fact is, when it comes to misunderstandings and arguments rarely, if ever, are things actually one-sided nor fully in just one's favor.
Oh, hrm... I had nothing related to Dave up in there... Umm...??? I guess I like how he dropped the mic on his, "last show before getting cancelled" special.
