I just sit on their lap

  • Usually sit on same side , but another factor I consider is that I am left handed, so where I am sitting is important so I don't accidently elbow my partner during lunch 😳 Apologies to those I have elbowed over the years!!!

It depends on the other person’s comfort level and what we’re eating.

Some might find physical contact or proximity intimidating, so I’d sit on the other side.

Some might find it easier to talk if we didn’t have to make eye contact, so I’d sit next to them instead.

If we’re sharing food or feeding each other, it depends on how much space we have to work with.

Other factors to consider might be the temperature, the moods and the activities. Are we huddling for warmth or spreading out to stay cool?

Are we holding hands from across the table or wrapping arms around one another? Are we doing a crossword puzzle or arm-wrestling?

So, in short, it depends. xD

  • @lonelytauros I’m always honored when someone sits in mine. xD

  • No, there's one time in college when I knew inside our relationship was going to end in the coming weeks, when we got to IHOP I tried to sit next to her in the booth to feel closer, she rejected it so I didn't think it was something people did until now.

I"m puzzled if you guys are talking specifically about how you are with a cuddle only partner, or you also are talking about a romantic partner. I think I would have a different answer for each situation.

  • I sit facing the entrance. Otherwise, I'll let her decide if she's sitting next to me or across.

When I am out with my boyfriend we sit across the table so we can talk if its just the two of us. However if we are with other people we usually sit next to eachother

  • When I go to dinner with somebody, I’m close with. I like to sit across from them. For me iContact is important. If I want touch, I can just hold their hands. Most importantly I want to see them and secondly, I don’t want to keep looking sideways to communicate.

  • Interesting thoughts 😊
Was chatting with @KozyKim after seeing this thread. Reminded me of her ideas on sitting together at tables which we’ve done a few times now . I’m paraphrasing here so , Kim says she “ loves sitting next to each other and people say well I want to see you but I see you already. You already know what I look like Let’s sit next to each other “. And I gotta respond it kinda works well

  • @OhioMike how could I not sit next to you, I would make you even if you didn’t want to. I would overrule you’re consent!! Jk.. glad you consented.

  • When my boyfriend and I go out, we sit across from each other so we can look at each other and talk. Like @xandriarain, when we're out in a group, we'll sit next to each other.

When I'm with a new cuddler, I'll sit across from them as we get to know one another, and then eventually ask if they would like to be on the same side for some public cuddles.

When I'm with an established cuddle friend, I let them choose; several prefer to sit next to me for the close contact during the meal, which I find super sweet.

  • Wow so many interesting responses and different perspectives. Humanity is beautiful 😍

  • I didn't choose an answer above because I wasn't sure how to classify it into one of the multiple choices. I have had partners we sit on the same side because of our connection, and others where the connection kind of dictated sitting the opposite side and talking. For me personally, the best connections and partners have always been those where we have wanted to be close all of the time and sit on the same side.

I'd prefer to sit on the same side b/c I'm awkward - eye contact or feeling like someone is watching me sometimes makes me uncomfortable (I'm working on it). But I actually sit on the opposite side - for some reason, I feel like it equals out the table (assuming there's only two of us). And it gives me a level of space and privacy. Also if it's a friend, I assume they'll think I'm weird for sitting next to them or want their space when there's a whole empty seat on the other side for me to sit on.

  • Because of the way I am, I always sit in an area I can see the entire room. Most times I eat alone so no one really notices that I’m very picky of how and where I sit. It’s mostly for security purposes that I am that way :)

  • If I'm having a meal with a person I'm dating alone, then across from each other. When it's in a group setting, next to the person.

  • My wife and I always sit next to each other, unless the seating won't allow. We always have to be touching! :)
