As the first article notes: late millennials and Gen Zers like Delphine (whom most women in the pics are most likely copying, even unintentionally) aren't making the face to appear sexual - they are specifically doing it to mock the sexualization and ridiculousness of the face ironically. As others have mentioned above, it's playful and subversive more than sexual. Even Delphine who is notorious as a sex symbol openly uses irony and mocks the men sexualizing her, leans into exaggerating the character she plays to ridiculous levels, and makes a shit ton of money off of it.
So are some of the women posting pics making ahegao faces to look sexy? Definitely. Are most doing it just because it's what the people they follow on social media do? Absolutely. Are a good chunk of them just trying to portray being playful and an "eff your societal standards" attitude? Probably.

I disagree. Belle Delphine is an online, electronic, adult entertainer. She's selling sexual content. She's not mocking anybody.
@PeopleLikeUs yes, she is. But everything about her style and how she presents herself is absolutely irreverent and coopting negatives into positives. Her whole aesthetic and brand is based around the sexualization and harassment of gamer girls - so she turned around and monetized it and made it such a trend that now many don't even realize the origination of where much of her content came from. E-girl was a derogatory term until people copying her look and attitude reclaimed it, and now it's its own trend completely separate from her and the gaming or adult industry. She was not the first, but she became the most notorious precisely because of how she took any hate or creepiness aimed at her and weponized right back at the people targeting her. Trolls told her she was too sexy/cute/dumb etc to be a gamer, so that became her persona and she banked it. They complained about her making money off of stupid content and for being famous for no reason, so she sold her freakin bathwater. Imo she's this generation's Paris Hilton - plays way dumber than she is, capitalizes on creeps sexualizing her, and laps up the controversy because it means more customers. Like her or not, she knows how to market herself.
And she absolutely does mock a ton of people - it is entirely built into her humor and that of Gen Z in general. Like the article I shared stated, it's all self-referencial and meme based - everything is social commentary and ironic.

That is an entertainment cliché. That's the same reason you can walk into Hot Topic and walk out a punk rocker. The idea that something bad is reclaimed and turned into a positive, is everyday production. We are talking like she's producing all this on her own which is also not the reality of it. She has overhead.
My point about this and CC is that sticking a tongue out has different cultural connotations along with dozens of other well-established gestures that we should be talking about.
I think it's something people see and just copy without knowing any true meaning. Just another picture pose like the duck face.

I think we generally focus our minds on "sexual" instead of playful in most cases with any body part. No matter what some does people tend to perceive it as sexual when some things are just normal.
If a guy takes a photo with his shirt off, if a female takes a picture with a bathing suit, and many more poses, people take it a certain way.
As the saying goes, a picture can have a thousand meanings, I tend to think most people with the tongue out are just being silly. I think the smiles in photos to them have just gotten old so they do that. There aren't too many original poses and sometimes the tongue is just their go to pose so to speak.
I guess in photos a smile makes you look friendly, whereas a tongue out may make you look playful/goofy/silly in a good way. Not that I do it personally, but I've seen my female nieces and cousins do it. I think they are just being silly.

I hope no one is offended by my statement. I really don’t understand why people have pictures of just their butt sticking out since in the Cc rules were not supposed to even touch someone’s butt. I took my profile off the public view just so that friends and family can’t look at me unless they sign up because if they look through other profiles they’re going to think I’m in some kind of sex ring. And sometimes I wonder if people expect more out of me because of those profiles they think that is what I’m about also.
I had a regular client who went on another site, and the pro at the end of the session asked if he wanted a blow job and of course he said no, but she said a lot of the pros do that. And he said well my regular doesn’t do it. Well, that’s lame she said. Southeast Asian women have been fetishized for centuries, and ahegao just ads to that. The stereotype that Asian women are submissive and other disgusting rumors about their genitalia abound. Because of the popularity of manga and anime, ahegao has become co-opted by some online sex workers who are attempting to capitalize on this popularity. The problem is that it enforces a dangerous stereotype that directly impacts Asian women and girls. The stories of Asian women being sexualized as teenagers are legion, and white women normalizing ahegao face in adult content is making it worse.
The face is rooted in not just racist stereotypes, but in fiction that glorifies child sexual assault. Furthermore, Asian women have been incredibly vocal about how ahegao directly harms them, and have repeatedly asked that people stop doing the face. I have seen multiple women of East Asian descent speak out against this, some of whom are sex workers. Every woman I know within this demographic is anti-ahegao. As is true of so many things, it’s so easy to just stop doing it…but people choose not to.

@Rachel_P - I am a culture fiend and really like knowing where things originate. Over the course of my life, I've seen and heard certain phrases, gestures, and words vanish into the racist/sexist trash bin. I hope aheago finds it's way there as well. I would agree especially as a woman over 30....you should not have pictures with your tongue out?!
