For me..it was when I noticed my nose almost touched my workstation screen to see emails I typed...it became really clear when I started losing body parts!
When I noticed my first "silver" hair- I was like, 37??
When My eyesight got bad.
If I had hair I might of noticed sooner
I'm not old so I'm actually curious about this (and a bit afraid). Does not being as spry as you once were feel like a prison in our own body? I'd be panicking...
There is a lot of freedom in being older. although there is the downside in that bathroom stops have to be planned more strategically
For me, I think it was when I was 12.
After 40 your nose and ear hair starts growing so damn fast.
I've resorted to waxing nostril hair. Not painful at all, surprising.
Worst is when the nose hair is white, looks like mucous
When at my doctors appointments they would list tests I needed to start getting done, since I'm now "blank" years old πππ
I think 40 was the first one, when she said: "Now that you're 40....you should keep up with annual eye exams." π€ Even though I've never worn glasses before....π©
At lest you don't need a shopping cart to hold all recommended medications ...I am a rebel in that I ignore all recommendations and just focus on living
I have had a few knee injuries. When my knees became bone on bone and I sound Rice Krispies as I got up or moved around. My inner child/brat still keeps me young at heart.
I must have been about 7 or 8. I couldn't do a somersault in the air any more. There were more things kicking in by the time I was 11 or 12: I just wasn't as young as I was.
The last time I noticed it in a meaningful way was 27 1/2, when puberty ended. (I'm now 58.)
Aging happens to us all, and I've never understood how so many people don't notice something that's so blindingly obvious throughout your 20s. Although it's interesting that the examples above of people only noticing aging later in life mostly involve being able to see it, or being informed by somebody else. In other words they stil haven't noticed, not really.
Actually that's quite a helpful observation for me.
I think about 40-45. Needed glasses and the joints stiff in the mornings
When on my yearly visit back to UVA, instead of inviting me to things, the students started calling me "sir."
When it got to where I could no longer ignore it
Our souls age much slower than our skin suits. It's just hard when your body and your brain don't connect. Inside I still feel very youthful. But my body certainly feels old. And my face is getting weathered. I'm old enough to know that there are far fewer years left of my life than I've already lived. And I have to say that it saddens me sometimes to know that my life didn't turn out the way that I had thought it would. And I have a lot of fair weather friends and casual acquaintances, but not really many people I'm very close with, and most times I'm alone. And I'm not sure that is how I want to feel when I'm in my final days.
I honestly donβt feel old yet. But I know itβs coming.
Well, my daughter complaining about her gray hair...that was a thing
It really hits me when I see how old my dad has become, or how old my kids are now and I do the "when I was their age, I was ________" thing.
@pmvines
Very few people get that we are more than these suits we inhabit. They may express it but they don't really feel it. Age IMO is the progressing ability to balance your ego with wisdom. The body will do its thing, properly with care and diet. But I try not to blame a timeline for my increasing ability to wrangle my suit tempered ego.
When I go to the doctor they always ask, "what medication are you on?"
My reply is always, "water."
Sadly...today.
First gray hair, joints starting to stiff and ache , skin getting more and sensitive (had to switch up laundry detergents due to that π) and of course Menopause. π
Lol! I will not be one of those women who are "in denial about it"ππ, my mother is constantly talking to me about it and I'm just gonna embrace this shπ€¬t as is comes along. π
Which I now believe it has! Lol π π
Mama tells me everything to take (Evening Primrose, Black Cohosh, assorted body oils in my bath water) , and for me to "take it easy on that boy", she's referring my son. Lol! He's good, he's gonna hide out in his room until I am done "changing". π
Just like I DID when Mama went through Menopause (when I was a teenager, I just stayed in my bedroom π) many MANY years ago. ππ
I do appreciate Mama for filling me in on certain things to expect, because when she through this she didn't understand WHAT WAS HAPPENING to her! π³
Until she the finally walked into a little women's clinic nestled in some old apartment complex (which has now been demolished) and told her what was happening to her. Mama didn't want me to be "lost" like she was when it came to Menopause. I appreciate that, Mama! ππ
@Katota ..and we appreciate you..... no matter how old!
I'm sure that some would say that I'm in denial, but I have decided that I'm simply NOT going to get "old." I may age, my body might change (we'll have NONE of that "dangling cleavage" from that other thread!! lolol), but that's just from gravity!
I'm better, saner, and more free since releasing the "roles" put on me by family, society, and culture. I like Me!! I'm worth living!! Someone wrote that it's a good day when you trade "external validation for internal conviction." << Hit my Soul like a ton of bricks!!!
I'm fully and completely committed to the idea that we don't "age" because of the passage of time, but because of the accumulation of toxins.. So, as long as I can still dance--gracefully!-- in 5-inch stilettos, I AIN'T ADMITTING TO NOTHING!!!
@Katota I believe it sometimes hits women a little harder than men. From birth you're celebrated. And you do so many important wonderful things.
I remind my daughter from time to time that the world ain't ready lol. But she will one day see me as the old man that tried to shield her from aging by being this goofy guy..in a very, very serious world.
There's nothing greater than the wisdom of a mother that can step outside herself and breathe patience and tolerance into her children.
I believe you have that.
I used to fear getting old but now I embrace it with open arms.......inside..I still feel very much the same as before..the difference ing I have become wiser and more focused on the important things in life. Also I feared there would be mass resistance to older men on CC..to the contrary....I ve found CC pros to being over whelming open with essentially no cudd sesson request being rejected..a pleasant and welcome 0urprise!
I'm 53, but in my head I'm still in my 20s. Then I stand up and am immediately reminded of my real age.
Every. Damn. Day.
Some people age like fine wine. I seem to be aging like bad cheese.
