Any changes covid brought that you want to keep?

I've been hearing people talk about insights the pandemic has brought them and resulting vows to keep some of the gifts of it... such as, wow, I so love more time at home, I think I'll keep spending more time at home even when I don't have to. Or, wow, I love telecommuting (or having sessions on Zoom or meetings or whatever), I think I'll keep doing that even after we can gather together in person again. Or, wow, it's been healing to not be around other people wondering what they are thinking about me, I think I'll continue to not be around people and cut that stress right out of my life.

Personally, I halted all my travel and my work has gone online. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, it's been awesome. If someone had suggested I do that pre-pandemic, I would have scoffed at it. But having been forced into it, I'm realizing some wonderful benefits -- like my plants get regularly watered, and I'm transforming with all this yummy home time.

How about you? Any lessons from the pandemic that might result in a lifestyle change for you?

  • @littermate - I want everything to go back to the way it was. Working from home sucks. Socially isolating sucks. I need a hug.

As a natural-born hermit, my life didn't change much when Covid hit. So... changes that I want to keep, huh? Hmm. I guess it'd be mask-wearing. Yup, let's do that whenever we're sick or there's a bug going around! I like that. I'm sure going to be doing it.

  • Face masks . They have become quite the fashion accessory

  • @Mike403 hugs!!
@DarrenWalker My life didn't change much either except the traveling. There was a meme somewhere that said "When you realize your lifestyle is called 'quarantine.'" I like how masks make my face warm in the cold!
@pmvines I have about 15 but have yet to collect enough to go with every outfit. I'm working on it. My favorite new one is the face of the snow monster in Rudolph.

  • I for one love the irony of being forced to PUT ON a mask before entering a bank or high end store if I don't want the police called on me, I'd very much like to keep it.

  • None ... if anything it gave me more of a conservative outlook , I seen many nyc restaurants being forced & ordered to not allow no more than 12 people inside & eventually being forced to shut down permanently, while places like Macy’s & Old navy having zero restrictions in time square especially on Black Friday

I enjoyed having my wife around instead of working 12-15 hours a day. And I've enjoyed cooking more.

It'll make me sound antisocial, but I like that there's less pressure to attend in-person social events. I like people, but I'm still introverted enough that quarantine recharges me :relaxed:

And I definitely want to keep wearing masks in public. They're warm and I don't feel pressured to smile, lol.

I have learned that being in nature an hour or two a day is therapeutic. I hope to remember that after this is over. I have learned simple routine allows for great moments of insight.
I have learned that I may be overly needy for super-long hugs when this is over.

I like that random strangers can't touch me without my consent or get too close to me. People have to think about how close they are standing and it is more socially acceptable to tell people to back up if they are standing too close to you 🤣

I actually quite like wearing a mask because I hate my face a lot of the time.

  • It has been a PITA . I got a text from a delivery driver he said to make sure I had my own pen to sign off invoice

  • @cuddlerforu24 - Delivery drivers here aren't making you sign anything(unless it's for alcohol). They just drop it off at your front door then leave.

  • Great question.

If people are sick with a suitably contagious disease, they should continue to wear masks if they are in public around others to protect them from getting sick. So for example, if someone knows they have the cold or flu, and they are running to the grocery store or have to take the train, they should wear a mask.

    yes

Mine is simple, people should continue to wash their hands. Or start for that matter.

I have become more aware of the needs of other people and have taken action to help.

  • An increase in self awareness

  • @BuggleBear very interesting insight!

I like it when the stay at home order is become more strict and there is less traffic on the roads.

Also, there has been some significant environmental improvements as highlighted in this article:

  • @BuggleBear I like that I can go out in public with an unkempt beard/facial and and just wear a mask to cover it up.

  • Lowered auto insurance rates.

  • I think I’ve put all of 2 miles on my car this year

    @Importance

I think I’ve put all of 2 miles on my car this year

Might be a good idea to take it on a long drive a few times a year. Prevents brakes from binding due to rust, prevents battery from dying. tires from getting misshapen, and burns off condensation buildup from oil. Just make sure it's a long trip and not a shorter trip because short trips will just add even more water/gas to the engine oil.

    It was a joke!

Take a hard look at yourself and try to figure out what you just did there. (Hint: it begins with man and it ends with splaning)

  • @Importance - I used to do that when I couldn't understand sarcasm. I went for the world record on how many people I can annoy in one day. :(

  • Aww. I’m sorry Mike and sunnysideup.

I thought by my extremely low mileage that everyone would know that I was kidding.

  • @Importance - I haven't touched my car in so long, there's a tree growing out of the trunk.

  • You might want to have that removed— jajajaja

  • @Mike403 : I thought trunks grew out of the trees 😜

  • @TheGMan - I thought trunks grew out of elephants.
