Vaccinated for Covid 19?

FINALLY we may get back to “normal” ish in 2021 thanks to the vaccine roll out. I got my 2nd Covid vaccine this past Monday and am fine - haven’t grown a tail or started craving brains (yet) 😂🤷‍♀️
I look forward to more in person cuddles soon hopefully!
My question - are you getting or have you gotten the vaccine? Why or why not?

  • Hello fellow cuddlers. I’d love to hear your experience if you have gotten the COVID 19 vaccine.
Also feel free to say whether or not you’ll get the shot right away or not.
Just be nice :) we are all friends here!

My 75 year old father just had round one. And he is struggling with a fever, body aches, and chills. He is just heading into day two. Hopefully he feels better soon.

I also had Covid starting November 19th. And I am just starting to really feel like myself again but my sense of smell and taste are still weird.

  • Had my first 2.5 weeks ago. Sore/stiff shoulder for a day and was mildly fatigued for about 36 hours, otherwise nothing. Next one next week 🤞🏻

  • I won’t get it unless it is required by my employer and I will face termination , what about you : )

I'm on the same boat as @introvme

  • I will get it. Don't want to kill any of the immune-impaired people I know. Or don't know, for that matter.

@LovenLight I'm in the UK and that is the kind of thing that would have gotten some pretty heavy press coverage, especially with it being a couple.

I haven't seen any evidence that a couple has died from getting the vaccine (and I have been following the virus news borderline obsessively as I am documenting it for autoethnographic research).

Couples have died from getting the virus, yes, but AFAIK there have been no UK deaths relating to the vaccine. A couple of keyworkers that had underlying health issues were treated for anaphylactic shock after receiving the vaccine in early trials but both survived.

@CuddleDuncan am I wrong? You're also in the UK, maybe you can input.

Happy to be proved wrong, with actual evidence, LovenLight, but this just sounds like a 'friend of a friend' scaremongering to support antivaxxer mentality.

  • @BuggleBear Wow! That's rather heartless to "assume" that because it wasn't necessarily reported by the media that it didn't happen! When did I say they were married? When did I say I'm an "antivaxxer"? You seem to be "assuming" a lot of things here. The OP said to be nice. Instead it seems as though you're mocking someone who passed because "you" can't gather data for your research? That seems very selfish. This is a time when we should all be uniting to overcome division not attacking one another because they share something you don't necessarily agree with. If you treat peoples lives as mere statistics in your books that say's a lot about your character.

@LovenLight: You said it's your friend's parents that died, right? Both her parents?

@LovenLight I'm calling you out on it because there have been NO reported deaths from the vaccine in the UK. Virus, yes. Vaccine no. There was also nothing remotely 'mocking' in my post regarding this couple. I also didn't 'attack' you, I asked that you substantiated your claims.

Them being married or not is irrelevant, but there would have been press coverage had something like that actually happened.

If me wanting to do actual research instead of just blindly believing whatever people tell me 'says a lot about my character' - I'm absolutely OK with that.

  • @DarrenWalker I respect you, but I'm not going to answer any further questions. I feel that privacy regarding medical issues is someones own personal choice to disclose and I obviously shared far too much as it is. I'm not trying to spread fear or "trigger" anyone, whatsoever. If you know me a bit by now you'll know that that is the last of my intentions.

  • [Deleted User]DarrenWalker (deleted user)

    @LovenLight: Guess I don't know you a bit.

Anyway, if it's your friend's parents who died, seems like a fair assumption that they were a couple. Unless your friend's a literal bastard, of course (which a lot of people are these days, no condemnation); but that her parents were a couple still seems a touch more likely.

So going all "When did I say they were married?" on @BuggleBear seems pretty dang uncalled for.

  • I appreciate everyone’s opinion on this. Its definitely a tough choice to make with so much unknown. I will personally get the vaccine when it’s available here but do have fears about having a bad reaction. I just want to protect those around me and my cuddle buddies :)

  • @BuggleBear I don't know you, but I hold LOVE for you in my heart! As I do for everyone!

  • [Deleted User]DeadGirlWalking (deleted user)

@DarrenWalker I edited the 'married' part out of my post because, quite correctly, I don't know if they were married or not. I don't have any evidence to prove it one way or the other you see, and due to my preference for substantiated information, I corrected myself 😊

@BbwCuddleBuddy7 that's a perfectly reasonable fear in the face of something that is still a relative unknown. I'm not an expert in the field, but from all of the data I have collected, it does seem that all of the vaccines that have been cleared for clinical usage are perfectly safe, and that any deaths that have occurred have been due to preexisting conditions, and potentially in people that already had Covid but weren't aware of it.

As I say, as far as I'm aware (and I have been following it borderline obsessively) there are no UK deaths linked to the vaccine. I can't confidently comment on other countries, but I DO know that when you take into account the staggering number of people globally that have died from contracting the virus, this low-risk vaccine has to be worth it.

I know some people are concerned about what might be in the vaccine, but this is not something anyone should concern themselves over, especially if they have ever used make up, or shampoo, (or any kind of skincare) smoked, vaped, taken drugs or even eaten fast food. The rigorous testing these vaccines have gone through in preparation for release is so extensive that they are safer, on a case by case basis than a lot of (much less regulated) products readily available for purchase, that people don't think twice about using.

Unfortunately people do believe a lot of what they read on the Internet, and a lot of it is unsubstantiated and intended to be inflammatory and divisive.

    TLDR: Vaccines are safe.

  • @BuggleBear @DarrenWalker I edited and deleted that entire part of my post. I have NO intention to trigger anyone in ANY way! I only wish to spread love and unity and I stand neutrally centered on this topic. It is everyone's own free-will choice to decide what's best for them without anyone else's influence.

  • I'm sorry to hear your friend lost his/her parents. I personally believe the benefits of taking the vaccine out ways the risks.
I would recommend everyone talk to their family physician's and ask for websites that can help us to become better informed so we can understand covid 19 and the vaccination.

  • I’ll get the vaccine!

  • I have completed both rounds of the vaccine. I had mild body aches, headache, and a really sore arm with the first round. Severe body aches, fever, ringing in my ears, cramping, soreness from my arm to my neck, and a horrible headache with the second round. In both instances, the side effects subsided within 36 hours.

  • I'm for sure getting it because any potential vaccine side affects pale in comparison to most Covid side affects. IMO

  • @quixotic_life
My thoughts exactly. I hope that you are able to get vaccinated soon!

  • @MelanieL ~ Looks like Jan. 25th is the earliest for educators/school personnel here so... 🤞

    @quixotic_life
Yeeessssss!!!! That isn't terribly far off! I'll keep my fingers crossed and think positive thoughts for you!

  • @MelanieL ~ Thank you!!! Being at high risk has made this so crazy stressful, especially given my reckless lifestyle choices... I love squishing on our students and miss getting to love on them in person everyday! Though yesterday during deliveries two of them got in sneaky side hugs!! Good thing I travel with tons of sanitizer and had an extra sweater with me...
    💓🤗

  • @quixotic_life You are most welcome! I am at high risk as well, so I understand. Ugh! My heart goes out to both you and your students! They need those squishes!!

  • There have been no reported deaths in the UK resulting from covid vaccination. It would be entirely impossible to keep such a thing secret for more than a few days, even if anybody wanted to.

I haven't seen any reports of deaths anywhere in the world, and I have been keeping an eye out for it. I have to say this has surprised me - if you give ten or twenty million people a totally benign injection, you would expect at least one of them to keel over and die on the spot from sheer coincidence.

There is a widespread problem in convesations about this topic. Too many people, particularly the less well educated, are unable to distinguish between proximity in space and/or time, and cause. Even if somebody keels over and dies three seconds after receiving the vaccine, that is not evidence that the vaccine caused it.

For some time I have been looking for ways to explain how safe the Pfizer vaccine is (and by extension the Oxford and Moderna ones: I don't know about the Russian and Chinese ones but they are clearly pretty safe). (I had previously calculated that your are more likely to die in road traffic accident during the vaccination month.)

I've been digging through UK death statistics and I think I've finally cracked it. It's only rough and ready statistics but it gives a sense of how safe/dangerous the vaccine really is. (The data is slightly old, but it hasn't changed significantly.)

In the UK we vaccinated about 2.5 million people in a month. The number of deaths is zero, even though the vaccinated group includes the medically most vulnerable people in our society. In the same time, from a similarly sized cohort, you would expect about three suicides.

This means that, statistically speaking, you are more likely to kill yourself during the month in which you are vaccinated than you are to die from the vaccine.

I'll say that again a different way:

    Q. Which is the greater danger to your life: the vaccine, or you

    A. You

  • @CuddleDuncan did you read the link I posted from the New York Times? Also do you really think the government and big pharma wouldn’t try to cover up vaccine deaths and complications?

  • edited January 2021

It's worth remembering that the vaccine was perhaps threequarters complete before they started trying to invent it. It's similar to many other vaccines for related viruses. This is all standard stuff, which is partly why we've been able to develop so many effective vaccines so quickly.

@sunshine77 if you want to read up, I would start with these:

    https://www.fda.gov/media/144413/download

    http://labeling.pfizer.com/ShowLabeling.aspx?id=14472

@MelanieL - congratulations! Lucky you - I mean I know that at the time it's a bit rubbish have the adverse reaction, but at least you know your immune system is up to speed and responding well.

@xandriarain yes I did look at that link, thank you. That is an association in time and space, and it's right that it should be thoroughly investigated. Perhaps it is the first death from the vaccine, perhaps not, perhaps we'll never know. However, notwithstanding the personal tragedy in one family, there are tens of millions of people who have received the vaccine with nothing worse than the reaction reported by MelanieL.

The British government would not make an serious attempt to cover up a death from vaccine, not least because they are perfectly well aware that it can't be done. They would try to control the news agenda around it, and the timing, but no more than that. The pharmaceuticals industry is indeed one of the most crooked of all, but it is still the case the most of what they do is straight. They make all of our medicine, for example.

Whatever their personal view, and their level of humanity, any journalist worth their salt would give their eye teeth to have the "first vaccine death" story. And there is no shortage of British papers who would publish it. British hospitals are haunted by local journalists desperate for a story, and there are plenty of medical staff who are happy to make an extra 40 quid now and then by giving them a tip.
