I’ve always had trouble with breakfast. I grew up with the common practice of having cold cereal and milk for breakfast. Later, as a young hippie chick, it became granola and milk. Over time I’ve followed different routines. When I worked in construction I had a pretty hearty breakfast, usually scrambled tofu (because I wasn’t crazy about eggs) and rice. On and off I’ve had protein shakes. There have been lots of times that I did not have “breakfast food” for breakfast and, instead, would have leftovers for breakfast (pizza - it’s not just for breakfast any more!). Long before breakfast burritos became common I had bean or scrambled egg burritos for breakfast. More recently yogurt has been a common choice. Often it’s a piece of cheese, a piece of fruit, and a piece of some breadlike thing. (“Like an Italian!” my Italian cousin exclaimed.) But the fact of the matter is that breakfast has always problematic for me. I don’t feel like eating when I get up though I function better if I get some protein at breakfast. Often I just don’t eat until about 2 p.m. and that doesn’t necessarily work well for me. I’m 69 years old and still haven’t figured out what is a good routine for me at breakfast. I don’t face this dilemma with other meals.
So, what’s YOUR breakfast routine? Maybe I’ll get some inspiration.
