Wake up …. Smell the coffee

edited March 2022 in General

What is your coffee ? Do you have to freshly grind your beans and then brew ? Any tricks for keeping ground coffee fresh ?

Do you prefer Dark roast , Colombian ? Expresso ( ExprRRRRrRRRlLesso …that’s “roll “ the R) in a Demi tasse, how much do you drink per day ? Or do you just buy one cup of sludge at the convenience store that who knows how long it’s been keeping ?

    Dark. No C&S. Don't care if it's yesterday's, and I don't mind if it's cold either.
[edit] I do love it when is so rich it gets oily on the surface.

  • For me it makes a difference if the beans are freshly ground.

    Colombian arabica.

  • I use a tsp of cheap coffee grinds, a tsp of hot chocolate, a drizzle of honey and caramel macchiato creamer with piping hot water lol maybe some whipped cream if im feeling adventurous lol

  • Dunkin’ Doughnuts French Vanilla here.

  • My preference is for a dark roasted Sumatran bean. No cream or sugar. I buy it ground, but only12 ounces at a time. I store it out of the light, in an air tight container, so it never has a chance to get stale. I've tried buying and grinding whole bean, but find that the very slight difference in taste just isn't worth the extra hassle in the morning.

Had Turkish coffee in 1984. Still running on the caffeine from that.

  • I love Turkish coffee when I can get it. Otherwise, I like Yrgacheffe from Ethiopia. I either drink it black, or add espresso to it.

  • Dark roast, with sweetener and whole milk - 2 to 3 cups daily

  • Iced espresso with milk and flavored syrup ❤️☕🥛

I mix decaffeinated instant coffee with chicory and cocoa, and sweeten with honey. But I only drink it in the afternoon. I have hot tea in the morning.

  • Cold brew with black cumin

  • Chai latte on a rainy day, otherwise I usually enjoy a fresh cup of mocha or hazelnut

  • Latte. A dollup of honey in the cup, then pour the milk. Steam that milk to a perfect 165. Once the desired foam and temp is available, add the coffee.

Sip your sweet nectar and be happy.

Whole bean Ethiopian,Costco Columbian Supremo,Lavazza Expresso etc. hand grinding it and finally the pour over into a heated mug.Hand grinding it does take some effort but the results are satisfying. One tablespoon of heavy whipping cream in a 12oz serving and then heaven. On rare occasions adding the cashed remains of some vaped product to the heavy cream and coffee for an interesting day.

  • I like calfia cold brew. That’s about all the energy I can muster up in the morning is to just pour it into a glass and drink it.

  • I've been doing a lot of research on coffee and espresso recently, with having gotten my first espresso machine! Wanted quality stuff without spending thousands. I don't have a grinder but get a bag regularly from a local coffee shop, and store it in the bag it comes in with the one way air vent on it, since a plastic container is not a good idea.

I used to store it in the fridge until I learned it soaks up all the scents in there, now just a dry dark place.

Finally got the milk frothing down for a latte vs cappuccino down this week! If anyone ever wants tips, I can totally point you to the right videos. 😜 Watched a ton. Getting all this down for a good latte was SO worth it, tho I'm ruined on all other coffee now!

I'd love a good grinder if anyone knows of one that'll grind it fine enough for an espresso machine.

  • Alot of Bustélo espresso, oat milk (frothed), chai, vanilla and a extra sprinkle of cinnamon on top.

  • @munkg ~ Yes please!! If you're offering that is... 😉 Sounds and looks delicious!!

  • Any sort of Rocket Java with cream, brought to my bedside by one who then sits and rubs my legs and gently informs me that morning has broken and the day is awaiting my arrival...

  • Soylent Mocha is how I get my morning caffeine and breakfast.

    Otherwise Starbucks mocha frappe
Or instant coffee and dark chocolate almond milk

  • @quixotic_life thanks! I just call it johnny chai 🤷🏽‍♂️ lol, And i love to share it around, its like Christmas in a cup.

  • (glancing sideways through a quirky, smile) @entwine snort... soylent... snort...

  • Ruta Maya Coffee is my favorite, I get a Dark and strong brew. I brew mines in a French Press. Either as is, or a little creamer, depending on my mood.

  • I like to grind my own beans for every cup and I have a collapsible pour over cone. Love light to medium roast because it has the most antioxidants and the smoothest taste and the most caffeine. Learned that at a coffee tasting down in Cleveland which was so much fun. I mostly drink my coffee black but when sometimes I put coconut milk in there. I don’t like oat milk it’s trying to take over. Rarely have cappuccinos I just don’t want all the sugar. I love the artesian coffee shop inside of the Whole Foods Market. They have organic coffee and they make their own syrups. I do like the Tasmanian Peaberry, and the Ethiopian are my favorite. The Ethiopian goats discovered coffee. So I always give them homage on national coffee day. I love coffee it’s like a cuddle for your tastebuds 🤎🤎

  • I have never drank coffee, I do like my hot chocolate. I have to tell you why!!!.
When my parents would make coffee, they took one of those metal coffee pots that had the glass bubble on the lid and had the tray at the top that held the coffee.
They would throw away the tray and dump what looked like a cup of coffee grounds into the pot, fill it 3/4 way with water then put on the stove with high heat and when it boiled to the point that the lid was bouncing up and down, it was DONE, LOL
When they poured it out it looked like pancake syrup and as a small kid I would think how gross and to this day I can’t even think of drinking coffee.

    I'm a simple gal. Lol

  • I buy ~20 pounds of greens/coffee beans once or twice a year and roast beans weekly - medium roast is the sweet spot. I don't care for light or dark or espresso roast. A friend introduced me to oat milk and I will never use almond milk again. @munkg 's post and methodology is ON POINT and I'm all about it.

Good morning, to you coffee drinkers.
