Happy Non-Binary Person's Day!

Hello all!
My pronouns are they/them. I consider myself to be nonbinary at my core, with genderfluid expression. (Gender is culturally defined--it's not about genitals. This is why what is considered to be "masculine" or "feminine" has shifted drastically from century to century, and from place to place.)

When I first started out as a pro on this site over three years ago, I listed nonbinary as my gender, which unfortunately was only met with confusion and questions about my genitals, so I dropped the label and didn't discuss my gender in the professional realm.

However, in the past year or so, I've had some really wonderful experiences with clients and the cuddle community in general that have encouraged me to be more open about it. I also just can't continue to masquerade as a highly feminine person when I just don't often actually feel that way...not sustainably, as much as that's more lucrative. I want us all to foster safety and authenticity with eachother.

Ultimately, I know that it's sadly still not safe in every area for every person to be out about their nontraditional gender or sexuality, but I'm hoping I can be a person who increases community awareness and contributes to a longterm increase in safety and respectful acknowledgement for everyone who falls outside of traditional and/or dominant societal norms.

For folks who are new to this and want to learn more, here's a nice introductory article that defines lots of relevant terminology:

Thanks everyone who:
-asked my pronouns (I'm totally understanding of mistakes; we're all learning)
-shared their own personal stories of gender exploration with me
-helped to foster a safer environment to start having these conversations

Big hugs to y'all from this softestcactus πŸ€—

  • Hooray! Thank you for this post (I feel like I just got a little cupcake with sprinkles and a candle), and I'm very happy to see other enbies out and about!

  • @DaringSprinter 🧁there it is! ☺️

  • @SoftestCactus Happy Enby Day!

I'm really glad you've had some positive experiences recently, and feel comfortable listing it on your profile. I know at least for me it would be very painful not to speak my truth, even if it made other parts of life more expedient. And thanks for linking that article. I've recently figured out that I'm some kind of non-binary (certainly not cis, at least) and have been doing a lot of thinking and reading around that.

As someone who's still in the questioning stage, the thought experiment that helped me figure out a few things was this:

If I died and some kind of futuristic sci-fi team put me back together, what could they get wrong but would still make me the same person? For example, if I was shorter/taller, or if my hair or eye color were different I would still be the same person because I don't really associate those with who I fundamentally am. However, if I was reassembled and had severe anger issues that would definitely not be me, because I'm inherently very calm and generally feel compelled to care for others - someone who is always angry would not be me.

I realized that if I came back as another gender/sex, that wouldn't be a fundamental change to who I am. I'm biologically male right now, if I woke up tomorrow as female I'd have to get used to a few new things (kind of like getting used to driving a new car), but it wouldn't be a conflict with my core identity. I don't know if that helps anyone else, but that's sort of how I think about it.

  • @Arachnea Thank you!! 😊
I love your exploratory example. That makes a lot of sense to me.

Reported, reviewed, and removed. Thanks for playing the transphobia game of comparison persons to different species of animals. In this instance, your opinion and offensive comment were removed, @JimPatt . Be mindful of your future posts. [-Sid]

  • @SoftestCactus Thank you so much!! Hope we get to connect again in the future. :)

Ohhh, wicked thought experiment and I totally jive with this! Thank you. I have no attachments to being female. In fact, as a teenager, I felt so unfeminine that I began wishing and wondering why I hadn't popped out a male, as I felt that would have fit my body type better (big hands, etc.). I no longer feel that way and I'm fine with being female, but let's say reincarnation existed, I would have absolutely no problems being a guy the next round, and in fact, I think I would love it. I don't know that this is going to make me identify as non-binary, but I really love that it made me think, and clarified why I've never felt any identification with feminism.

@SunsetSnuggles Congrats on your recent epiphany. I feel like this community is watching you grow and expand yourself right before our eyes. It warms my heart.

  • @SunsetSnuggles and @SoftestCactus: Yay, cupcakes!

@Arachnea, that's pretty much exactly how I approached it. I actually used to think everyone was agender until, during a conversation with my dad (a fundamentalist Christian pastor, nearly 70 now), I realized some folks would be so uncomfortable without a specific type of body that they just assumed they'd have their preferred body type in heaven. Not an assumption I ever made....

It sure is a big old world, full of fascinating people. I'm glad everyone's not like me, but it is nice to occasionally run across those who are!

    Have a cupcake? 🧁

  • Happy Day and Congratulations!!!πŸŽ‰

  • @Btown You are too sweet to me. Thank you!

@DaringSprinter I had always assumed I would transition into heaven exactly as I currently am. Back when I believed in heaven. Hm. Could I be a tiger, instead? 🐯

  • @SunsetSnuggles (Off topic, so spoilered.)

As a Christian, I would've directed you to the verse in Philippians 3 about how God will "change our lowly body to conform with his glorified body" and the one in 1 Corinthians 15 about how the bodies that are "planted" will be raised as different as a grown plant is from a seed and so on, and concluded that the resurrection body can't be pictured by using any mere physical body that exists in this fallen world as the basis.

As an atheist, I now say, "Heck, it's Magic Eternal Funlandβ€”wear any body you like, why not."

On what basis was my comment removed? Evidently the moderator is a rodentiaphobic! And here I thought this was a safe space. Evidently this is as repressive as the rest of our Western Society. Pls explain to me your rationale. Thank you.

Your post was transphobic hate speech, @JimPatt . Do it again and you'll go into forum timeout. Do it further, and I show you the door. [-Sid]

Off topic. Toxic. Maybe you should read the forum rules, @JimPatt . You'll have time to review them the next 5 days in forum timeout. Thanks for playing the "don't have time for your entitlement" game. [-Sid]

  • So sorry that I missed wishing y'all a wonderful day! (In the process of selling my house and buying new property, so I was on the road and in a different state, lol.)

That said, I just wanted to let you know that you are seen and appreciated for who you are. πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€ I loved reading this thread, from start to finish.

    So:

    HAPPY BELATED ENBY DAY! πŸ§πŸ§πŸ§πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

  • Ooh, more cupcakes. Thanks, @TheGentleReina! And good luck with your new place. πŸ€—

  • @JImPratt I didn't see your previous comment, but from your reply it seems likely that it was indeed transphobic.

This site is not a democracy. The site owner has the right to do whatever he wants. What he wants is no transphobic hate speech. (Which is illegal in the UK anyway, where the site is based.)

If you don't understand why it was transphobic, that means you don't understand what you yourself wrote. There's nothing wrong with that, it happens sometimes. But that means you wrote something horrible without meaning to. And yet, instead of apologising and trying to understand what went wrong, you are defending your remarks. Which is odd, since we've already established you don't understand them.

History teaches us that stories like yours have two potential endings. Either the person shows a willingness to learn (rare) or they end up banned (common). Which it is is your choice.

I'm hoping for the first one. I really am.
