“Amusing Ourselves to Death” by Dr. Neil Postman. A classic book from 1985 about the ripple effects caused by society shifting from print to TV as our primary means of communication. As old as the book is, it is as relevant today as the day it was written. It is a great read.

Just recently finished the George Orwell classic "1984." I was familiar with the basic premise, but thoroughly unprepared for just how horrific the world depicted in that story was. After that experience, I think I'll try something less terrifying by returning to my collection of the works of H.P. Lovecraft.

I used to read Crime and Punishment every summer. Haven't yet this summer and not sure if I will.
I recently picked up at a flea market for 50 cents The Essential C.S Lewis. Been jumping around to different chapters, much of the content of which I've read before.
I'm working my way through the Barsoom series again. Ah, staple of my teenage years!
In retrospect, these books are really bad. But the nostalgia is delicious.

@DaringSprinter - Oh my dog, that cover is so classic. I had a friend visiting for a few days, has been very active in science fiction fandom, teaches history of comics and was one of the first to do that in a college/university. He’s known lots of the artists over the years. He would love it.
@Babichev: Frank Frazetta! Loved bodies, hated pants. He illustrated Conan the Barbarian and, if I recall correctly, at least one edition of Return of the King. Rain or snow, land or sea, nobody he drew was ever be-pant-ed.
Works perfectly for the Barsoom series, mind.
I don't actually own this copy—I'm reading the series on Kindle. But this is the cover I remember from my teenage years. I wonder who (if anyone) owns that library book now?
