Pit of despair during the holidays

I am usually pretty lonely and have been for much of my life but I am feeling especially down as we approach Christmas and the New Year. I can’t seem to connect with anybody and i fee like the only way I can receive compassion, regard or affection is to pay for it. I feel like I am in the pit of despair and I can’t find any way to climb out of it. I don’t know why I am feeling especially alone now, but this is really becoming unbearable. I have a work/vacation trip coming up in early January and thank God for that because otherwise I have nothing to look forward to. I’m so tired and just want the pain to end.

  • I feel the same way. I can’t make any new friends in person because of all my medical issues. I can’t bring myself to eat and no one can make me.

Sorry for how you are feeling. I hope you have someone you are able to reach out and talk to . I say this with the utmost respect to your feelings. I'm not sure if the root of your problem can be solved looking for cuddling on an interweb site . I suggest not putting so many eggs in this basket, and dont put so much importance and grandeur on this cuddling thing . It is not the be all end all, and its not going to make your problems go away . It seems like it's only adding to your negative feelings, so weigh out if its worth it to take a break and focus on you and your real world connections, and not this online world for a while.

If you have access to EAP resources through your employer. please consider utilizing it. Sometimes holidays are tough, and when you already have problems it can really amplify them. If you feel like hurting yourself, please call the suicide hotline or go to nearest hospital for evaluation. Please be well and get through the holidays. You have people who love and depend on you.

  • Hang in there @Spud424 and @lobsterhottub. What @pmvines said. People don't always show it, but there's folks who love and need you. Don't set the bar based on the response rate here or any social media.

  • 💜💜💜

  • Gonna give you the biggest hugs when I see you next 🥳🥳 holiday season is almost over. New year, New adventure.
    👌

  • @pmvines 😌 well said

  • Awwwww I’m here for any lonely heart.

  • Im sorry you guys are feeling this way @Spud424 & @lobsterhottub. It’s really good spud that you have something to look forward to though. My advice that sometimes helps me is to focus for a couple moments on the exact opposite thoughts. The what if’s. What if you weren’t lonely, what if you were doing your favorite thing with someone right now. What she would look like? Where would you be going right now, what would you guys be doing? What would you be wearing? Finally, what would you be feeling. Bask in that feeling for a little bit.

For you @lobsterhottub i hope you get better and I wish you perfect health again. In the meantime, since you mentioned food, I’d say write down all the foods you would eat when you feel better. Only the foods you want to eat when you get better. Like a “when I’m better” food wish list. It could be deserts, recipes, restaurants you want to go to, anything food related. Watching the food channel will sometimes stimulate this desire too. If there’s anything you can’t eat for some reason, but really want to, do like the above and imagine what it would be like if you could. Bask in that for a moment.

It’s ok if not everything is “merry & bright” 🫂

  • My mom passed in 2015 and my dog last December. My brother passed in May. So far I've been a mixed bag of feelings. I was able to send out Christmas cards for the first time in about a decade. Considering everything that's happening. Yet still feel lonely and such.

  • Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 hope you’re listening to 1 of your badass DJ mixtapes as well as enjoying anything else that brings a smile to your face & warmth to your heart ♥️ 🌌
