Any misconceptions people have about you?

  • People assume that with this belly I must also have a rockin caboose. Nope. Flat as a piece of ply wood. If you spank me you just might get a splinter

  • [Deleted User]KYtransplant (deleted user)

That I'm quiet and shy. Nope, just introverted with anxiety and trust issues.

Or that because I am a woman and appear a certain way I am not capable of learning and getting right in and doing things that people assume I would not be capable of. I can do simple mechanical work, I am capable of living alone , doing all the stuff that needs to be done around the farm myself and from two wheels to 18 wheels I can drive it all anywhere in the country.

And the big one, that I'm a weak pushover that doesn't notice things because I will let stuff slide. No. I see and feel everything. And when necessary I am the most fierce, foul mouthed individual that will right wrongs and be the ultimate humanitarian.

  • People think I’m mean, or unapproachable until I crack a smile, or they have a conversation with me. I probably just have rbf, because after that it’s smooth sailing 😄

  • [Deleted User]Calibrate715 (deleted user)

Well, if I'm not smiling, I have RBF so I look mean lol. As one friend put it "I thought you were a cold-hearted b**ch when we met. But you're so sweet!"

And some assume I'd keep that demeanor at work and think I'd be fun there - nope, militant B. Get the job done 😆

  • [Deleted User]MaverickLegend (deleted user)

People at my work, think I’m some sort of Jedi master/Batman that drives around in a Ferrari. Truth of the matter is I’m just a broken down Washed up has been lol 😂

  • I think people look at me and think because I’m tall and very handsome and a male model I must get heaps of girls, truth is the sheer volume of matches I get on tinder (when I have it) and interest I get, how many women of all ages look at me multiple times in public would drive some men who struggle standing out to women to suicidal thoughts. But I don’t actually date anyone, I’m Catholic.

  • I'm part of the introvert pool, and may also have a male version of RBF ( @Calibrate715 - I had to google that one), so people may see me as not the friendliest type (let's put it in a nice way).

@SunsetSnuggles I know about social anxiety too: I spend a lot of energy to go through some work social events, especially dinners after a whole day of meetings - just like the saying "there's no free lunch".

  • IRL people think it is easy to be me and my depression doesn't matter because I can be high-functioning while having it.

    @EchosinEternity Are you serious?

  • @EchosinEternity Wow, thank you for being so blunt and vulnerable. I would never have imagined it would be that way, but it makes a lot of sense. Men can be seen as objects, too...I'm sorry to hear that. Hugs to you, buddy.

@Maverick07 Same, it's too much for me to handle.

  • @spreadjoy I particularly appreciate your sense about this! So hard to perceive the actual truth of someone else's reality!

However, I'm pretty sure many people (myself included) see me as what I do, what I think, what I feel, my past, etc. While the more I learn, the more I discover that I am (and we all are) a miraculous seed of the universe, growing and expanding into a larger point of presence and consciousness. That of course is one perspective - my beautiful, Aussie, Catholic brother @EchosinEternity might have a slightly different take on the nature of existence!
I enjoy all the different perspectives on what this life is!

  • People who only know “professional me” (the part of me that is seen in the local newspaper a couple times per year) often have misconceptions about me. I am not famous, but I am accomplished in my profession and that leads some people to assume I am unapproachable and/or un-relatable.

People I have met through CC, who got to know me as a person before knowing anything about me professionally, know nothing could be further from the truth.

  • @JohnR1972 🤗🫠😌

  • I'm not sure if I'd even want to know people's misconceptions of me. 😅
One that I've heard a few time is that people thought I do mushrooms, smoke cigarettes, smoke weed, etc. Never been high or drunk in my life. Lol

When I got out of high school & went to the college parties, turned 21 & went to bars I was shy & afraid to talk to chix. Was a farm boy, obese, & my parents wouldn't let me move out. I had nothing that could get chix to talk to me once that stuff came out. My best friend told me I just needed confidence but even when I had that I got rejected. Fast forward to 2007 I had lost the weight, got away from my parents & on my own, had the years to develop my social skills & still struggled for a year or so. My friend & his wife both told me it was cuz I had become too confident. She said it was to the point that I was cocky & arrogant. I somehow came across as a jock cuz I was working 50-60 hour weeks, working out in the lil free time I had. This was the same chick I had asked out when my friend & I met her & she rejected me saying she like her guys more athletic. She chased after another guy, eventually settled on my friend. Point is, we're gonna get judged wrongly no matter what & I will freely admit I've misjudged. Unfortunately, it's unavoidable. Do my best not to.

  • [Deleted User]kinny (deleted user)

@EchosinEternity I've heard from younger guys that are like you. I tell them they should be happy they get the attention. They tell me it sucks cuz of the chix that approach them in real life & online. I understand where you guys are coming from. I don't think it was this bad 20 years ago, it's just gotten worse. Stay true to yourself, you don't have to play the game if you don't want to.

  • People are so loony, they actually think I’m human. Silly sapiens.

  • @pmvines LOL! As a black woman who would doesn't have a "big round bootie", yet it would be assumed that I "must have a big round bootie" because...Ya know, BLACK!😁

I relate well to your comment. 😊

As every Black woman in the world is "suppose" to have big butts, amirite?🙄😏

    sarcasm here

Sorry I don't have a big butt and I'm still a black woman, it is what it is.😊

People frequently* assume that I'm not really interested in talking or making friends because I look like I'd rather be left alone. It's usually entirely the opposite. Sometimes I know I look that way, but in other situations, I don't really know how or why people came to that conclusion.

*source: most people I've talked to about "why doesn't x person want to talk to me" or whatever (I can't remember how this would come up), usually they would describe something like this, so I assume that's how most people see me.

  • A lot of people assume I'm a full time criminal, but the reality is I only do part time crime.
@Sideon you're not gay, you are THE gay snap snap
@quixotic_life there's nothing wrong with being able to macgyver yourself in or out of a situation.

  • @munkg is part time crime how you get the money to pay for my beverages? If so, I'm ordering doubles next time

  • I have no filter and am very blunt so people often take what I say the wrong way. I often offend people when I don’t mean to.

    Lol

  • Oh yes. Let them talk 😆

  • @pmvines we doing triples next time 😌

  • Some people think that I can read their minds, but I actually need them to tell me what they are thinking.

  • People assume, because I am usually so proper, polite, and especially more shy in person, that I'm an all-around prude. But, as evidenced on a recent thread of which we shall not speak, I actually have a sense of humor rooted firmly in the gutter, and I quite adore whipping this out in group settings, where quiet me in the corner suddenly snaps in with an innuendo no one was expecting. I love the shock value. 😈😄

Ironically though, despite my sense of humor, I have very old-fashioned morals and am far closer to a prude than the dialogue of my mind would lead one to believe. So basically I can't win; my humor is too much for the nice guys, and my principles far too strict for the bad boys. 😆 Good thing I'm already taken by someone who accepts the dichotomy that is me.

That I'm a cat. Even saying I'm not a cat doesn't help, as then they say that's exactly what a cat hiding that they were a cat would say. Why doesn't anyone believe meo... I mean me?

  • [Deleted User]Calibrate715 (deleted user)

    Lmao @I_Am_Not_A_Cat; I love this😻

@Maverick07 - I think most men have RBF - or at least opt to use them as profile pics. That scares me lol. I have to see if a smile reaches the eyes on anyone.

@bananapuddin WELCOME TO THE SITE!!!! And thank you for such an interesting and thought provoking thread.

ONE of the misconceptions people seem to have about me is relating to the extroversion stuff.

People think that because I love humans and am a good facilitator and enjoy a fun gathering that there's no way I would enjoy one on one conversations or that I don't need down/alone time. This can lead to some BIG misunderstandings.

Omgosh @munkg hahahhahaha PART TIME!!!! That is why we get along so well. 😊 Did I ever tell you about my beer runs?? #onemoreconversationthatneedstobeheld

  • @SunsetSnuggles - I can vouch for your sense of humor 😂😂😂
