It was before my time but I loved watching reruns of Welcome Back Kotter on Nick at Nite.

Also I LOVED the reference in the latest Ant Man 😂

    MASH first
    All in the Family second
    Maybe Who’s the Boss Third?
    Taxi fourth
    Cheers Fifth

  • WKRP. Hands down.

  • For a 2000s vibe, How I Met Your Mother is fantastic in crushing the absolute loneliness of these walls.

  • Oh man, so many good choices already listed!
    MASH
    Golden Girls
    WKRP
    Three's Company
    Cheers
    New Girl
    Big Bang Theory
    How I Met Your Mother
    I Love Lucy
    Will & Grace

Too Many Cooks borrowed something from each of those classics, but it took them to a totally surprising place. If you do not know this show, just watch the clip to the end of the opening credits and tell me if you disagree.

Seinfeld, though several other great shows were named. Seinfeld’s my favorite though. I do sometimes consider going back and watching All In the Family from the beginning. Even when I was a kid I enjoyed that one.

  • The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Everyone knows Will Smith is a master of slapstick.

  • Growing up it was Happy Days then MASH.
    WKRP next.
    Later Married with Children.
    Simon & Simon.

  • Different Strokes. What you talking about, Willis?

  • @DaveTheBrit is right. Everybody else is mad.

    Oh no, wait ...

  • @GreatHornedOwl I was on my way to this message board to write exactly what you wrote. You are correct. Nothing else even comes close..Amazing cast. Vivid memorable characters. Social commentary and..most importantly...HILARIOUS!!!!

  • Mash was a great series, but it was almost too real to be thought of as a sitcom. I can recall many incidents from my year in Vietnam that, in retrospect, were just as funny, but Vietnam was certainly not a comedy.

@GreatHornedOwl Kind of like making Hogans Heros about a Nazi POW camp only 20 years after WW2. Too soon. I think even now it is a bit weird and overlooks the atrocities. I know that it was cartoonish but still…

  • Seinfeld, Home Improvement, Married with Children, Fresh Prince... there were some good ones back in the day.

  • @MonkeyNeedsAHug I loved that video more than I probably should have when it came out and had to show it to everyone. Most didn't share my same enthusiasm :p And wow it's already been 8 years ohmygosh

  • I'm having trouble with the term "sit-com". Full disclosure - I have not watched television since I was a teen since I'm one of those people who gets ahold of a remote control and I channel surf. I don't watch anything in particular, I watch EVERYTHING in 3-5 second increments. All THAT said...

    I Love Lucy
    The Carol Burnett Show
    Mary Tyler Moore
    Mork and Mindy
    MASH

    My all time favorite is

    Absolutely Fabulous

    Schitt’s Creek is second

    Honorable Mention:

    The Larry Sanders Show
    Silicon Valley

  • @FunCartel - I am ashamed. How could I have forgotten both ABFAB and Schitt's Creek???

  • You also couldn’t go wrong with the unintentionally hilarious “Dragnet”:

  • I missed all the best sitcoms for my.time. I was too busy playing Victorian earthworm Jim smand sonic and killer instinct my entire childhood

  • I nominate "The Honeymooners." .Jackie Gleason combined with Art Carney for some incredible comedy.

  • M.A.S.H.
    Happy Day's
    Gilligan's Island
    Goodtimes
Sanford and Sons - (grasps his chest faking a heart attack "Elizabeth, I'm coming.")
The Waltons - not everyone's cup of tea, but I watched with my Grand Ma who loved it (she loved Sanford and Son too)
    Cheers
When cable came my first series bing was The Monkeys
    L.A. Law
    E.R.

  • @TNNative That beats my grandma. She made me sit through Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights while my dad was in Vietnam. It was the start of my life long hatred of and activism against bubbles.
