Where is everyone going if Tik Tok gets banned?

** This question is specifically for people who use Tik Tok. If you do not use Tik Tok and do not like it there is no need to comment on this thread.
** I am not asking your opinion on TikTok getting banned or Tik Tok in general, just which platform you plan to use next.

Not to make this a political discussion. But if the app gets banned, if you’re someone that actively uses TikTok currently especially if you make content, where do you plan on going next? The main ones I’ve been hearing about are YouTube shorts, Triller, and Clapper.

    Never had TikTok and never will. I was warned by some people in the know a few years ago when it first appeared to steer clear of it and glad I did.

    I would probably just switch to Instagram since Reels feel directly lifted from TikTok anyway 😅

    I started out watching stuff on Instagram. I would probably go back to Instagram or even YouTube.

    I have but rarely use tiktok. Id switch to ig or youtube shorts. Tbh not a big deal for me.

    My daughter doesn't use it but says if she did, she would go to Instagram. Considering some of the recent challenges include jumping out of a moving car and cooking chicken in Nyquil, I can't say it would be a big loss. Not sure a ban will stand up legally though.

    The problem with Instagram is it doesn’t have the same kind of reach that tik tok has. Tik Tok has actually helped keep Instagram relevant. But Instagram is much more curated and makes it hard for a newer creators to build an audience. I already post everything that I post on TikTok to Instagram so I’m glad it’s there but I don’t think it will be enough for me considering I only have 679 followers while I have 8876 followers on Tik Tok

    I definitely agree. I made multiple videos on TikTok that somehow got 2-3 million views each and they were extremely low effort and so bad I’m more embarrassed than proud 😅

    I would say FB/Instagram and YT, except most the shorts on those platforms are reposts of TikTok content these days, so it would be really interesting to see how the genre of video shorts changes with such a large vacuum created.

    Personally, even though I take long breaks from it for my own sanity as I do with all social media, I think the loss of TikTok would be a sad thing. It has created a lot of community and accessibility that other platforms have failed to do for almost 20 years. It's advanced discussions and increased awareness in advocacy and engagement in ways that text and photo media have been struggling to do.

    I mean your data is still being stored and sold to the highest bidder no matter which app you use @Midnight01. I'd say even more so using North American apps. Practically selling your soul using FB or "Meta" but I digress.

    I avoid tik tok and anything similar bc it capitalizes on those with ADHD. I would argue even if you don't suffer from it you may end up with symptoms when off these apps as in struggling to focus on anything longer than 30sec. I know OP doesn't care about opinion just using it to explain the grass is not greener so to speak on another app. There's no "reach" on other apps bc North America and UK have some sort of internet pac.

    *To answer OP question I prefer YouTube (avoid shorts). If I am watching TV it's usually on this app bc there are far more independent sources. I found it to be a great app to essentially eliminate the middle man if you're making content. For example, stand up comedians are releasing specials on there for free. If looking for reach then invest in a VPN.

    @xandriarain Clapper has shown that many are already going to their platform. They say it has a lot of catching up to do to reach the status that ticktok has. I’ve not heard of any others that are as similar.

    i’ll go outside 😂 but honestly tumblr is my favorite app , i only use tictok and instagram because my pages are monetized and i also use them both as a way to advertise my businesses. i’ve been meaning to make a youtube page to flex my tarot skills, so if tictok will no longer be a stream of income i might finally get the push i need to set up a youtube.

    @xandriarain You have no tongue to bite—that was not a political statement. A professor who teaches cybersecurity at a local university told me it is not in my best interest to get on it. This was before the asshats we call politicians turned it into a political hot potato. I mean really? You made a huge assumption there.

    @Vianca on the flip side, those short video formats are an ideal way for many with ADHD (myself included) to learn. There is an entire community of ADHDers who only learned they have it and sought diagnosis because of content on the app. Similarly the autism community and several rare disease communities have hugely benefitted from content creators sharing their experiences because it allows us to realize we're not alone, our symptoms are real and not just "in our heads", and that pursuing diagnosis and treatment are worth it.

    ADHD isn't just about suffering, and technology does not cause short attention spans. We need to stop blaming tools for how we use them or our lack of skills in using them. And perhaps it's time we acknowledge that long, sustained focus isn't the only way to achieve productivity and and that productivity isn't the value of a person.

    Since I don't use TikTok I'm almost afraid to comment based on the stipulations in the opening post, but since I don't think thread comments should be limited by fiat, as long as comments are not against the website rules, I'll comment. I agree with @FunCartel I don't trust tik tok due to security reasons and will never down load it.

    I do find myself more engaged when listening to a completely unrelated voiceover while watching someone hopping around in Minecraft or Subway Surfers 😅 (for anyone who has no idea what I'm talking about, it's a very common format on TikTok)

    @cuddlefaery agree with you. I also have ADHD and I just can’t with YouTube anymore. The videos have gotten so long. I learn much better in short format videos.

    Find some 17/18 year olds and ask them. I know they aren't your target market, but that sort of age will drive which app becomes the 'next big thing'. Whatever it is, it won't be quite the same as Tik-tok, the next thing never is.

    Even though Youtube shorts does the same job as Tik-tok, I very much doubt it will be that.

    People keep forgetting that India and a couple of smaller countries already banned TikTok because of data privacy concerns.
