Kudos to cc for the prompt banning of this person but…

I (and I’m sure several others) received the message in the screenshot yesterday and the member was already banned when I saw the message. But, perhaps something like this shouldn’t have gotten delivered at all in the first place? I understand filtering out certain words is a slippery slope but, at the very least, this particular website URL (and sites similar to this one) can be prevented from being delivered in messages? @Mark ?

And if hard coding certain URLs is tricker than it seems from the outside or leads to performance issues, perhaps a simpler solution might be adding logic like -
    If MessageNumber < n, Set AllowURLs=False.

I know that would mean anyone new to the site cannot have a URL in their messages but is there even a use case where someone new might actually miss it?

Glad im not the only one who received one

  • I received the same. Ugh!!

  • Yeah there was another round this morning and I banned so many...I'm gonna go take a nap 😴

  • It happens so rarely why bother making a big deal about it ?

  • Interesting; I got similar spam but with different text.

this particular website URL (and sites similar to this one) can be prevented from being delivered in messages

Any kind of simplistic filtering like this is likely to cause more annoyances than it solves.

  • This was a special case. Two days in a row now, someone or a group of people made mass accounts and spammed thousands of those messages. The admins have been fighting them off and us mods have been banning like crazy. I don’t really have any info as to why they are doing it, very curious myself.

  • And yeah there are methods to catch them. It’s just a matter of how much do we want it to affect everyone else, which we don’t want (such as disabling links).

  • Isn’t there someone here that does the coding for a living? Maybe they could help with those filters.
My daughter is getting her degree in Cyber security and oh man is it needed.

  • Is it really that big of a deal? I saw the message, erased it, and went on with my day.

Part of the issue is that many people here on Cuddle Comfort are doing all they can to make it a safe space, with kindness, tolerance, and respect being the norms.

Things that go against that feel personal, and threatening.

  • @Mr_Cuddle_Bear spam is a constant annoyance on the internet and can take over if people aren’t careful. The fact that this particular message wasn’t a huge burden on you doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter. Fortunately the mods/admins are pretty on top of this kind of thing, but if this site somehow became neglected for a year it could easily become a wasteland full of mass amounts of unsolicited ads from pros and spam from fake accounts.

  • Message filtering is unfortunately one of those clbuttic programming problems.

  • I received this as well but luckily didn't click the link and blocked him immediately.

It's probably not the worst idea to just block all URLs in DMs.

  • Mine had different wording that was some way over the top ick. But instead of being bothered, I was first thinking, "Ooh, hey! My first hella trashy intro message!!" Then after rereading it, I became more and more confused as to why I'd been chosen to receive something clearly meant for dudes. I mean unless they thought I might share their link with one...?? Whatever though. I'm not sure what kind of algorithm they're using, but it's clearly busted. Plus, who would click on a link like that these days anyway? Smh...

a lady told me CC is being advertised on TikTok thats why i think there has been alot of spam accounts lately

  • TikTok has a strong gravitational field that sucks up all the stupidity on the internet. I never saw anything on that website that wasn't cringe.

Kudos to you sir for catching the middle of the night mad ranting escort service wanting changes. Around the same time.

  • Cuddle companions does message filtering, and it’s the worst because it’s really hard to explain what you don’t allow when you can’t even mention those things. Also, somebody else I know that the same exact message.

    @Bear
Yeah that was so random 😂 They really thought they did something there lol

  • Blocking URLs is NOT a good answer, because what then for when we legitimately need/want to share links with each other? How about sharing Zoom links to vet each other before cuddle sessions? Links from pros to business documents they might require? Sharing a funny meme with a friend that you can't download to reshare? Adding your friend from CC to your social media when either or both of you have your account locked down on private?

Banning all URLs would punish and severely limit the utility of messaging for legitimate users in the name of stopping the relatively rare occasions that inappropriate links have happened.

  • @cuddlefaery good points. It was just an idea.

@xandriarain You are so right about those message filters! It's extremely frustrating trying to write out what's not allowed when the filters limit you.

    Filters are not always useful.

  • It’s been almost 10 years since I signed in. Every time you join a Facebook group now you have to sign into terms and conditions and a couple filter questions. Do you have to check off before you are allowed to enter. Is this the case nowadays with CuddleComfort?

Actually I've seen quite a bit of content on TikTok that was pretty decent and informative. But yeah, the problem is that it's interwoven with lots of inanity, and the short form repeating video format is a nightmare.
