sad news unfortunatly (Content Warning)

at 4:30 pm (Mountain Time) yesterday I had an appointment with my veterinarian, I took my dog in to be put to sleep.
he was an old dog, he was 14 years old, and had a lot of health issues, he was half blind due to cataracts, and had severe arthritis, however the big thing has only come out in the last couple of days

a few months ago when I took him in for his yearly checkup, they found an abnormality in his liver, but at the time the vet though it was just a bit of a fatty deposit and benign,

well in the months since he's been sick off and on, and we kept thinking it was re-occurring kennel cough, despite the fact that he rarely has contact with other dogs, but the past few days things have gone severely downhill

he had been having frequent seizures, muscle spasm, problems breathing, his poor little heart would race like a jackhammer, he woudn't eat, he had trouble sleeping, and mostly would just wander around in a confusion like he didn't know where he was, until he collapsed and lay there whimpering and moaning

he was clearly in a lot of pain and suffering and there was nothing I could do for that, he had something severely wrong with him and with his advanced age, I doubt it could have been fixed to where he could have had a good quality of life any more.

he went peacefully, when the vet administered the injection, he layed his head on my lap and closed his eyes and he was gone

it was the best thing for him, but it was such a hard decision to make.

I'm just happy that he's no longer suffering, but I will miss him so much.

  • Sorry to hear that, our Family also made the decision to put our German Shepherd down a few years ago. He was the best boy.

I’m sure he lived a great life and was glad to be by your side.

  • I’m so sorry. It’s one of the hardest things ever. I know the decision was not easy and like me, I struggled so much to know when the right time was. It’s such a painful loss but hold on to those beautiful memories. They will be there for comfort and eventually smiles.

  • You did right by him. Not easy and it never is if you love your dog. I have a feeling that the wheel of karma will turn in your favor because of your love and kindness. Your pooch was lucky to have you as an owner.

  • Oh sweetheart, I am so sorry. Wish I could spoon you right now and comfort you. Thank you for having the strength to let him go, when he needed to. 🫂

  • @Lithellyl so sorry to hear this. You took care of him through all of the health issues and you were there for him was his left us. That all sounds like a deep love to me.

My dog Pippet passed away while I was out of the country this summer. If it helps tell stories that you love about your dog. And share his name with us if you feel comfortable.

Be well and do something self soothing for yourself.

  • My deepest sympathies to you.

  • Hooo so sorry ! 😭 thanks for share . Much love

  • Having to make that excruciating decision, the most important thing was that your dog knew you were there with him as he drifted off.

I’m so sorry for your loss!!! They are like family!!! Prayers going your way!!! I know it hurt when our dog had to be put to sleep!!! My brother had a dog Shadow for a short time! We all LOVED Shadow so much, and to this day we don’t know what happened!!! He was at our house and full of his normal loving energy, and they brought him home. That night he passed in his sleep!!! We all cried and missed him like crazy!!! I hope you find peace and look on the good memories!!!

Sorry for your lost!!! I am sending all the air hugs and pray that you kept something near you from your dog!!! 🥰❤️❤️❤️🙌🏾🙏🏾

  • I’m so sorry for how you must be feeling and I’m glad you have a place to find support.
You know it was the most caring loving and unselfish thing you could do for that little sweetheart. Also the most difficult decision ever. I was in the exact same situation with my little dog Sam who was 13. I barely got through it.
I kept his chewed-up stuffed toy nearby, in fact 5 years later it still is.
    🤗🤗🤗

  • I've been through this before..watching a loved one slowly deteriorate is the absolute worst. I am so sorry for your loss.

  • thank you all for the kind words everyone,

@SunsetSnuggles I'll definitely have to take you up on that offer

  • @Lithellyl For sure; travel dates are always up in my profile. 🤗

I’m sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is very tough.

  • @Lithellyl Such a sweet pup. I am sorry for your loss. It’s hard making the quality end of life decisions for our loved ones. It was the best decision and being there as they cross the rainbow 🌈 bridge is important. I put a pet down during the Covid lockdown due to cancer issues (20 year old sweet fur baby) and we could only have two family members in the room when he was administered. It’s still a loss and grieving process. Many hugs to you and grant yourself space and time to heal.

  • I’m sorry for your loss. Hugs!!!

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. Loosing our fur babies is one of the most painful experience. Sending you 🤗❤️🙏.

  • I'm sorry for your loss
