My favorite sci-fi and my favorite horror sub genres are both “plausible”. The Freddy / Jason or Alien / Hellraiser movies never really bothered me because they all required the “suspension of disbelief”. The moves that I found much more interesting and creepy were the ones that focused on events that could really happen like the 1971 Steven Spielberg movie “Duel” or the 1993 Keifer Sutherland movie, “The Vanishing”

This movie sent shivers down my spine especially since a lot of guys are actually like this. Apparently the actor who played the murderer almost turned down the role as he was really uncomfortable with it.

I just recently watched Smile. That was really good. But if you want disturbing, watch “A Serbian Film” that was absolutely disgusting and vile and soooooo many things happened in this movie I can’t describe here. Just gross 🤢
Eraserhead. It’s not exactly a horror movie, but I saw it over 20 years ago and some of the scenes are nightmarish and remain in my memory to this day. I hesitate to recommend watching it, lest you suffer the same indelible imprint upon your mind.

Midsommar was just one WTF moment after another for me. Like I've seen saw and hostel and human centipede... those are supposed to push the limits on gore and all, you kinda know what to expect. But Midsommar, man that just sneaks up on you in every scene that left me going WTF just happened. And I love the subtle details they added just to make it that much more messed up.
Hands down, Serbian Film. It made my skin crawl. If you have not done it - don't.
