@Mike403 those are cool images. I was eating Mexican recently after reading about AI image generation on here, and I was like “taco heaven” or “tamale heaven”, or rainbows and tamales. The food was just so good, and I was picturing in my mind a generation of an AI pic for it all.
My experience with AI image generators has been very helpful for visualizing characters for my current story. I've gained some insight into how computers "interpret" ideas.
I used ai to make this a while ago. I was a bit disappointed as it seemed generic, and didn't fulfil my ideal.

While there were no gas masks involved, it was just as precious as these images, and I'll be forever grateful for their care and help during such a yucky time. They risked getting sick themselves, and yea verily, caught what I had, missing work and losing money just to be there for me, keep me taken care of with hot tea, Emergen-C, Airborne, warm meals, an endless supply of fries, escorts to and from my car regardless of my insistence I could go on my own, good music, a crazy assortment of movies, all the cozy cuddles, hysterical laughter resulting in coughing fits, deep talks, and whispered conversations when I lost my voice.
Marshmallow, you are the f^cking best and I do not deserve you!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. It was my privilege to turn the tables and take care of you, when you got sick. I'm not going anywhere. 🫂🫂🫂

And here's part of my post from it...I've only made AI art like twice before, but I was giving some explanations so I made some real-life examples, this morning.
I think there's two wonderful things about AI art...
One, it allows people to create something extremely specific, which would otherwise not exist...this is super helpful when trying to explain something to someone who is a visual person, or when you want to send a friend that perfect image of a fuzzy bee that looks cozy and happy, holding a balloon, for her birthday, and a Google search turns up nil. 😆🎈🐝
Two, it allows people with absolutely no artistic talent, like me, to use their other skills, such as imaginative writing, to create something beautiful and unique to them. I absolutely love descriptive writing, and AI art is a way for me to turn that into a vivid reality...to me, it's incredible, and the speed of it gets my creative juices flowing in ways I've never experienced, before.
I wrote: A white mother duck lovingly leans down to snuggle her small baby duckling while floating in a dreamy blue pond surrounded by soft ripples with a few cattails in the background in a watercolor style.
After quite a few tweaks, Meta AI generated this for me:

One plant costs anywhere between $400 million to one billion dollars. They are ridiculously expensive. In a time when we are told we can’t afford air traffic controllers, this seems frivolous because you would need several plants.

Quick research (under a minute) would show the statement above is like stating Cuddle Comfort uses clean water to facilitate the booking of cuddle sessions.
Common knowledge and literally hundreds of articles will show the above statement is wrong.

I read the first article you linked to. Then I read the top comment... it can go on forever with points made endlessly in favor of either side. My point was once you go down that road where do you draw the line? of course, the volume impacts of Cuddle Comfort and ChatGPT are not comparable, but conceptually my statement was true. Tech uses clean water. period. Also ,

So glad this thread exists as I wouldn't find myself compatible with people who use, endorse, or don't understand the environmental concerns and ethical concerns of AI. Which, just for semantics, I'd like to remind doesn't exist. These are multialgorthmic speech and image models that have no artifical intelligence as is usually defined in computer science. They simply are scrapping and stealing hundreds of pieces of data and meshing it together- which isn't anything extraordinary ultimately.
Clean water has nothing to do with consumption. And I’m not going to go around and around with someone who hides a false narrative and compares apples to oranges to try to be right. Oil is a natural product and peak oil was more about long-term ROI than the natural resources. If anything AI is another tool of possible efficiency which wastes valuable resources—but your argument is we might find a solution? Innovation should come in the form of find the solution first then open the market. Not the case here. We have innovation to make money, but not much else.

As far as the topic of the thread, AI art at this point is more akin to the dogs playing poker level art. But I can see where it would be fun for people who struggle with traditional methods of art. Nothing wrong with that. I just appreciate pure blood and sinew art more—to me it shows the soul or spirit of the creator more. Just my two cents.
But in many ways this is the old high art vs low art discussion seen in years past.
