About a week ago a woman was asked if she’d rather encounter a bear or a man in the woods. She chose a bear which is quite sad because it makes it sound like most men are bad. What are your thoughts on this?
Maybe she just thought that bears are cute.
I saw that. Girls today are taught to be wary of men, either by their elders or social media or certain cultural groups. For their defence I would assess this method of mental conditioning as correct, regardless of the political connotations. Everyone is responsible for their own security when it comes down to brass tax. Should men be offended? Deride that method as ridiculous? As a guy, I make no comment on the rates of assaults etc… I would say this though, I know what bears do in the woods. It ain’t pretty.
Most men aren't bad!
But there are certainly enough bad ones around to make women (and men that are fathers I guess) wary of them
Bear. 🐻 Hands down. Mostly because I NEED to give it boops. 🤣
I would totally advise my daughter that the bear is preferable.
Yeah bears will usually kill or kill and eat you but okay
Yea and if a bear assaults me, at least people will believe me 😩
Maybe OP is talking about @bear ?
@Sooson nope.
I'm gonna say that woman does not live in grizzly country like me. Everyone here packs heat. Even a Yellowstone guide with over 20 years of experience leading grizzly tours was mauled to death by one because he accidentally got between a bear and a moose carcass. You don't f^ck with grizzlies. Watch The Edge with Anthony Hopkins.

I had a conversation with a group of guys recently at jiu-jitsu, and it was similar to this. They were discussing fantasies about fighting off different animals, like if they encountered a shark while swimming. 🦈 Then, one of them asked me about my thoughts of fighting off animals, and I said the truth — that my similar made-up scenarios always involve fighting off men. Like, what would I do if I encountered a man while hiking. The one other girl in the room agreed 💯%. It was thought provoking.
@Sheena123 💔🙁
Yeah, @Sheena123 😞 and definitely @Erin_Elle_ 😔 !
I would add that to that: if it was a bear....grizzly or otherwise....I wouldn't be questioned about "what were you wearing to make the bear want to assault you?"
And yes @Ironman294 sometimes bear attacks end up in death....but very rarely, and sometimes you can get them to go away by telling them to leave you alone. That hardly ever works during an assault the other way around. 😧
Definitely some interesting comparisons have been happening and hopefully thought provoking for everyone who thinks about it. This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to ask questions and try to take this as it's meant to be.... learning and growing and helping our fellow humans! 💗💗💗
Apparently, in the past decade, in North America, there have been 3 reported deaths due to bear attacks each year…. Certainly less then men.
@Erin_Elle_ @RedFox16 when I first listened to this, I thought it was kind of a joke and then as I listened to it more and analyzed it and listened to it a couple more times I realized wait a second This isn’t a joke at all. This is really serious and it’s actually really sad that women, have to deal with this and so yes, it is very thought-provoking and awakened me to a realization that I didn’t have before
Also a lot easier to explain shooting a bear dead than a man. Darn. 😇
Thank you all who are willing to look at this objectively! That absolutely means SO much to the other half of the population! 💗
And thank you @lonelytauros for posting about it and also your genuinely thoughtful comments! It's kind of you to not simply be dismissive ☺️💯🌼
While not every man is bad, every single woman I know has had a bad experience with a man which made them feel unsafe or did them actual harm.
This is a problem men must address. It is incumbent on all of us to drive toxic male traits (I've been thinking a lot about this with the current big trial happening and the fact that so many men supported a person who made such disgusting comments and laughed them off as "locker room talk"). We have to make this unacceptable in our private spaces. We have to shame men out of these behaviors and encourage healthy, safe behaviors.
Yeah bears will usually kill or kill and eat you
True, however...☝️
@Ironman294 There are men who have been known to do this to a woman as well. Bears are predictable, it's a bear after all.🐻😊
Men aren't as predictable as many are very clever at "hiding" their true intentions (no matter how foul they are🤨) when it comes to encountering a woman. Especially if she's on her own, let alone in the woods. 😌 Hence why most women have they're guards up when encountering most men for the first time. 😏
I don't feel like it's a all men are bad and untrustworthy thing. It's unfortunately a reality that there can be an element of danger with strange men which is why a lot of adults won't allow their children to have sleepovers or go out of town with other kids and their families . Bears are predictable and actually rarely ever do anything to people ..statistically speaking , you are at a much larger chance of something bad happening to you as a woman at the hands of strange man than a bear. So much more to be explored here, although I honestly don't feel like there are enough emotionally secure and mature people to have that conversation , which is why the knee jerk response is to accuse the author of being a man hater who is painting men as all bad.
"what were you wearing to make the bear want to assault you?"
Very good point indeed!👍
@RedFox16 Also I have never encountered being called a "fat, ugly b🤬ch" just because I rejected their "advances".🙄
Lol!😄 Bears have never told me that I should be GRATEFUL for "the attention" they've given me, because nobody wants a fat, single mother unless it's for sex.😏 Bears are pretty good at accepting rejection with grace and dignity, I hear. 😁😉
Plus Bears don't LIE either, because they can't talk. Ha!😉 Yeah, I have never known bears to say "I'm single with no kids" but then the next thing ya know there's a "Mrs. Bear" photo posted with their "nonexistent cubs" on Facebook. 😄
A bear also didn't sexually assault me when I was 7 yrs old.🤨
I DONT have flashbacks of my mother carrying me at the age of 2 or 3 yrs old, while holding my big sister's hand running in the middle of the night to our landlord for help due to being assaulted by a bear either...Nah, a man was the reason behind all that!😏
A bear didn't stalk me on my job, when I was 18 yrs old...Nah, that was an older man likely in his late 40s who did that. He got the point when I finally told him: "F🤬ck off, or I'll call the cops!" 😊
Yeah, bring on that bear. Let's do this!😁🐻
@Katota Men also eat men, this song is about a true story
@Sooson True, there are men who have eaten children too! As there are men who have sexually assaulted corpses...Boy, am I going down a dark path in this discussion thread!😄😄😄
Just to add something here. It makes me chronically unhappy when I hear some of the stories from women in my life about the ever present danger they face from men. But to call them men is a miss-representation, because real men don’t do that. And the ‘not all men’ argument is flawed because they have to be on alert the entire time. After all, how do they know you’re a good guy?
So the question for me, that gets to the heart of the matter I would word thus: How do we make the world a place that if a woman is walking in the woods her ONLY concern is the bear?
Men, that’s where you come in. Sit down with your sons, talk to them. Have a meaningful and honest conversation with them about these topics. Tell them about the constant danger women and other vulnerable groups face. Don’t leave it up to the education systems in your country because they have obviously dropped the ball on this issue. And, stand up with your daughters. Show them how to be street smart, how to attain the highest operational security they can and how they can defend themselves if the worst happens.
Don’t assume that because you’re a good guy, a woman ‘should’ automatically trust you by rights. Never touch anyone without asking, or being asked. And if you’re in the woods, or an alley, or a club, or a car park, seeing a woman or vulnerable person being attacked (by a bear or anything else), don’t just stand there. Don’t freeze up. Get stuck in and get it crushed. Even if it costs you your life. Because the life you save might be the woman in my life, and for that, I thank you in advance.
Never received unsolicited, unwanted, uncalled for dick pics from bears either!
Lol! Perhaps they're shy about their dicks, I don't know...🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
But I really appreciate them never doing it!👍
I honestly don't feel like there are enough emotionally secure and mature people to have that conversation , which is why the knee jerk response is to accuse the author of being a man hater who is painting men as all bad.
😁👍
@pmvines Again THIS^ is why we are cuddle buddies!😁🫂
@katota I love the “Mrs. Bear.” That made me laugh out loud.
With the original question, it all depends on which man?
I do agree, a bear has never hurt me before, although I don’t frequent where bears hang out either.
When I do go in the woods, it’s always with someone else. Safety in numbers, with men or bears.
This Bear won't hurt you.
It's my belief this is also the reason most enthusiasts are extremely reluctant to cuddle. Unless they know it's truly safe.
What else is new, this Society dumps on men in masculinity until there's a power outage earthquake hurricane or some other natural disaster who comes and picks up the pieces men
@BrionC i can understand that men play a vital role in society. I just feel that this particular topic raises an awareness to some of the dilemmas and hardships that women have to go through
