Would any of y'all be interested in doing semi-regular virtual movie nights? With buddy steaming options available since the pandemic, it's possible for a group of friends to watch movies together in real time no matter where in the world they are. I miss doing these sorts of socials, were we can watch in silent companionship or text/voice/video chat if desired. We could vote on the movies from the lists on that thread or something?

I'd be happy to arrange them and host as long as I know folks will actually show up 🤣

    A few notes about techy stuff, in case folks are wondering:

    • The platform we use may be dictated by the movie we pick, or vice versa.
    • While some platforms allow for streaming over mobile web, others do not and the experience is generally much better over a computer (larger screen, ability to watch and chat at the same time, etc.)
    • Depending on the number of people, the platform, and the movie, most of the time we should be able to do this without the need to download any programs (use web-based streaming). However, using Discord which has a mobile and desktop app may simplify and streamline things if we have larger numbers or more diverse movie picks.

    @cuddlefaery Actually, a few months ago I used to do this. I have a server on Discord that worked for that purpose, and I have a list of DVD's to choose from. I stopped doing it due to lack of interest. But that could have been that I was not as charismatic as you, or my movies were not as interesting.

    Just so you know, I asked a mod here what made it ok to do and the rule was, no pros could attend because of the potential for the pro to make new contacts external to the CC site.

    You are welcome to use the Discord server I had set up for this purpose, as long as the no pro rule is followed.

    Why do the mods care what pros do on their own time? That seems kind of sketch. Like just socializing online doesn't mean scouting for new clients. Are they also worried about pros using social media sites or playing online games?

    Back on topic, I love doing movie nights in Discords and would love to join. I'm in Canada so we don't get Hulu and other sites like that though.

    It's been ages since I did an online group movie viewing! 🎬 I think it would be really fun, though it would definitely depend on the movie, whether I would log in on a particular day, or not.

    Also just throwing out there that weeknights would likely work best for most peeps, as weekends are typically already spoken for.

    @CuddleHugs01234 I think that's a lovely idea!! That way the Pro's could have fun, too. It's really sad they can't join in, and that sounds like a great alternative. 🤩

    @LoganThrives Pro's aren't allowed to give out their contact info until a booking is made through the site, so having their Discord username out there where clients can solicit them, or they can solicit clients, would violate their signed agreement.

    @CuddleHugs01234 I am going to attempt to have it open to all if mods get back to me. In my mind this should be no different than attending an in-person M&G where the onus is on the pro to abide by their contract. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    @SunsetSnuggles we may or may not use Discord. Using discord may allow more mobile users to attend, but if that's the deal breaker than we can look at other options. I've been leaning towards web-based anyway as it doesn't require any downloads or sign-ups

    @cuddlefaery If there is some method where people could view the movies and communicate publicly in a chat room, but not privately contact each other, maybe the mods would allow that. 🤞🏻 I think that wasn't feasible for the recent gaming idea.

    After reading through the event discussion thread and talking with @cuddlefaery and @Mark about the possibility of doing a mixed virtual event, with Enthusiasts and Pros expected to attend, Mark has agreed to allowing a Mod-managed discord server to be used for the event (and possible future virtual events of a similar nature depending on how things go).

    Know that CuddleComfort in no way plans to have an official discord server to replace the site forums, so the discord server will only make use of a single voice channel for people to join and may limit only the event organizer to be able to stream video, but the voice channel would only be accessible during the event and no text channels would be available.

    I had already had a discord server modeled for CuddleComfort for testing which is what will be used for the virtual movie night, but I will need to discuss further with @cuddlefaery to setup the event details should she still want to move forward with it. If so, the event thread with details for the event will include a link to join the discord server. More to come once I've had time to talk with her though.

    Addendum:
    Something @cuddlefaery brought up is not everyone who joins wants to be on a mic to talk and may instead prefer to type responses. I confirmed with Mark, and during events only the discord server will have a voice chat channel and text channel. Once the event is over, both will be inaccessible.
    Please remember, all rules which apply to the CC site and forums will still apply on the discord channel, which you will have to agree to on the discord server before you'll see the event channels, most likely 1 or more Mods will attend the virtual event or be nearby should we be needed, and anything shared in the text channel is still logged and reviewed.. including any edited or deleted comments.
    I'll be talking with cuddlefaery more about a date and time she's thinking for this and leave posting about the event details up to her.
