Howling at the Moo\n is Good for your Health!

I've been noting at the behavior of my coon hound for sometime, the way she attacks and empties any water bowl I put down on the floor, etc!! I'll never figure her out but there is one behavior in particular I am beginning to admire! Anytime I take her or doing anything she views as fun---she howls at the top of her lungs! For example, when I take her to her favorite park where she gets WAWA bacon as treat--she will essentially hang her head out the window howling at people, passing cars the entire time until we get to the park. I finally figured her behavior out---its her way of expressing happiness--something people should do more often! Oh--sure---we laugh on occasion but when is the last time you laughed until your stomach hurt? With all their stress in the world---we should find more time in the day to laugh! I would go as far to say that we should follow my dog's example (Harmony) and howl at the moon! I've certainly felt better since I started howling! If not howling is there an equivalent that gives you the same feeling as laughing out loud you would like to share?

I'm now wondering if I like singing "wailer songs" for the same reason? lol I know that a good howl is excellent for the throat chakra... guess it's that way for all of us mammals! lol

  • Sometimes I purr.

It's not as easy as it sounds. Cats have secrets I haven't figure out yet. I should practice more.

I was trying to think of what this made me think of, and then it finally hit me. The scene in the movie Death to Smoochy where Edward Norton howls.

In the movie the howling was a healthy way to let out anger instead of joy, though. So maybe the howling can mean different things.

I think I tend to think about wolves more than dogs though.

Also made me think of a comic with wolves in it, which is actually called Awoo.

This also made me think of a scene from a different movie in 1981 involved some healthy howling as well

@lonelytauros the movie that has that Marty McFly lookalike?

  • @Will564 Do you have a link to that?

"The werewolf goes, awooo me of London" - Tom Smith (I Had a Shoggoth)

  • I enjoy the howling and hooting driving this beast at night, especially the full moon ones lol 😂

  • @Unscented_Lemon

I didn’t know if you were referring to the movie clip or the comic so here’s both.

@Fematheist I had told him in an older one of his threads that I prefer concision, but that's my personal reason...I can't guess at everyone else's 🤷🏻‍♀️ Glad I could make you laugh.

Ooooohhh, @OhioMike~ My fella would DEFINITELY LOVE to hang out of THAT BEAST'S windows, howling happily!!! I'm going to make sure and show this to him!!

Woo! I wonder if @waynewv has seen this Wonder, yet??? lol

@FriendlyFemale ~ You did! lolol But, woooo... You'd probably slap duct tape across MY mouth if I got started running it! Good thing I'm limited by my keyboard, here!!! :)

  • When I was away at summer camp as a kid, I howled at the moon because I missed my dog and they kicked me out.

  • [Deleted User]FriendlyFemale (deleted user)

@Fematheist I wouldn't dare restrict anyone! I just speak my mind without filter. I am the same in real life. However, there is a chance you may hold my attention with interesting topics. I'll wait for your next thread to see... 😝

  • Xandriarain---it they don't understand the power of howling--there are better places to be---I am sorry that given such a noble cause for howling--they kicked you out--==t least you got to go home early to be with your dog!

  • Howling sounds great to me. Whatever brings joy or assauges emotions such as anger or sadness. 🌜

  • @dennis22554 you are right I was the winner at the end of the day. I got what I wanted 🏆🐶

  • [Deleted User]Fematheist (deleted user)

@HarleyGirlKate~ Do you ever howl right along with your bike?? I soooo just saw a fully clear vision of that very thing!!! lol

@xandriarain ~those folks had probably lost their own ability to howl, long before then... I'm glad you kept yours.. AND that you won!

@Fematheist: I don't exactly howl, but I scream a lot when I'm pushing my bike on the twisting mountain roads where I live. I really feel alive when I do this.

Also, when I ride alone I often have a running conversation with my 20-year-old sportster (Ragnar) that involves a lot of laughing, shouting and such.

So kind of, yes ... but after reading and commenting on this thread, I'm definitely gonna howl! 🐺🐺🐺

    @xandriarain: Good! I'm glad you did. ☺️

  • I don’t howl at the moon, but I do sing along with my 45 rpm records while cruising in my old Ford convertible

  • Sometimes a moon isn't necessary, all that matters is the howling itself.😁

  • @Katota Please don't make me post comments in this thread

  • And then, when he's found who he's looking for, listen, in awe, and you'll hear him howl at the moon.
