If you were a ghost, where would you want to haunt?

I was thinking recently that I'd enjoy if I could stay here as a ghost. It's a rural setting with trees and mountains and all, and a school with a bunch of bright and interesting kids. I could keep an eye on the place, and even manifest from time to time to talk to people who need someone to talk to.

I don't think I'd "haunt" any one specific location. Since I wouldn't be restricted by a physical body, I think I'd finally see all the worldly sites I never got to see in this lifetime.

  • I love this post. I think I would haunt a picturesque college like at Oxford so I could overhear interesting lectures and talks while enjoying all the old stone buildings.

  • Because it'd be nice to have people believing in me, and getting excited about my presence, even after I'm gone, I'd like to sign up to haunt someplace where those who are into paranormal phenomenon might congregate.

  • Depends how I passed over I would imagine. One thing that comes to mind is going where ghost hunters go. To see what it’s like to communicate. Otherwise if someone was to blame, I’d would try to get them caught or such.

I would haunt human traffickers until they turned themselves in to get away from me or took their own lives.

I would want to watch over my daughter. When she was very little, she used to say she did that for me before she was born.

  • Depends on what my abilities were (making noises, moving objects, creating cold spots in a room, etc.) but I would be a friendly ghosts. Maybe a few harmless pranks to give the living something to talk and speculate about but nothing serious - the world has enough bad juju already without me adding to it.

I had a conversation once with a guy who used to work for a large hospital in the Southern United States. The hospital had a separate morgue in a smaller building across the sidewalk from the main building. The guy I was talking to worked in maintenance and had keys to every door in both buildings. He also had a co-worker who worked 3rd shift security and was very superstition about ghosts.

The maintenance guy loved to sneak into the morgue when he knew the security guy was about to go through the building on patrol. He knew the route the security guy would take so he would do things like unlock and open doors the security guy had just checked so on his way back he would see the door was now open. Other times he would knock over brooms in the maintenance area and/or moan into the ductwork knowing the sound would come out around where the security guy was currently walking. He tormented the security about once or twice a week for nearly 2 years before the maintenance guy took another job out of state.

He told me about 3-4 years after leaving the hospital and morgue, he was channel hoping one night and saw his former co-worker being interviewed on a paranormal “ghost hunters” type show. 😂😂😂

  • An abandoned amusement park I went to as a kid, if it's still there. Fantasy Farm just outside of Cincinnati. Or a movie theater that shows good films. Or a huge furniture store where I can sleep on a new bed or couch every night.

  • @JohnR1972 That person you talked to was just an asshole, tormenting someone for his own amusement.

  • @IronLemon your haunting also sounds like a really lovely retirement. Except it doesn’t seem like ghosts need anything to keep them floating around so they don’t need a pension, IRA, etc. for basic necessities, nor do they need any long term care. Such are the benefits of being non-caporal after all.

I think I’d use my haunting powers Batman style. I would find terrible people getting away with horrible crimes and haunt them until they turn themselves in. If they don’t I could help thwart future crimes. Of course I’m assuming I’m a poltergeist and I can throw, move, and control physical objects; as well as manifest cool voices, other sounds and maybe even objects.

  • I'd hope I died in a cloak with a scythe in my hands, just so I could appear and scare people :)
But years ago i buried some very important items below a special tree, so hopefully when I die I'll go back there and just spend eternity chilling, I'll be a friendly ghost, "hey bro how it going, crazy weather eh? This heat will kill you"

  • @ShaneSchrute It would be a lovely retirement, yes. I think it's my favorite place I've ever been, for multiple reasons. And even if I can't interact, even just watching and listening to the people would be fun. And especially if I can make it into town, only a couple miles away. Though it might remind me why I stay at the college.

@cde123 I wouldn't mind visiting a bunch of other colleges and universities. There's always something nice about them. Though at the end of the day (or whatever time period), I'd come back here. I wouldn't want to leave this place alone too long.

I love to travel, especially on cruise ships and trains...so haunting a cruise ship would be great... A cruise ship that's still actively sailing that is... The Queen Mary in California is reported to have ghosts ...so I guess I can dream of haunting all the passenger while they eating , drinking and having a great vacation..

I wouldn’t “haunt “ anyone, why would I want to do that? Doesn’t sound good at all.
But I would want to watch over my grandson and see how he is growing up. (My children too!)
If I had any powers, I would want to protect him a little bit, not much though because I want him to be strong. I wish I could see how future generations follow.
I always imagine my parents are watching over me somehow. Even at my old age, I still want them to be proud of me.
(Probably not what you mean by this post)

@IronLemon thanks for the reminder clip...I had totally forgotten about that part of GB2...

  • I would haunt and materialize as the StaPuff Marshmallow Man. Then I would run for President on the platform of “A Really White Man With Good Taste That Tastes Good”.

My fellow Americans I am as at much at home in an urban kitchen as I am in a rural fire pit among campers. And while I do not poll well among diabetics, I do plan to work closely with Splenda to find ways to level the glucose levels of marshmallows everywhere.

  • @g_w_t_w I think that falls into what I mean. By your grandson is a fine place to be. And sounds like you'll have help.

I think haunt is a neutral tone. As with anything, it depends on what you use it for. I like that most people would choose to haunt in a positive way. Well, at least until @TheFunCartel came along.

  • @IronLemon Not a marshmallow fan?

  • @TheFunCartel I just know that the impending Great Marshmallow Flood will be even worse than the Great Molasses Flood.

  • @IronLemon The Great Glucose Apocalypse of 2028.

  • @TheFunCartel The Glucopocalypse. I hate when those happen. But if it happens in 2028, and it'll take some time for things to reach that point...I don't know what I'll wear to your funeral.

  • @IronLemon Dress up as Anton LaVey. I have a feeling that is the right signal to send to who I will be meeting.

@Nate205 Sidenote, Queen Mary is haunted. I went to their halloween event once and my date and I experienced something. 😯 If you like that kind of stuff, it's a neat place to go, even year round.

  • I would haunt an ivy league college campus. There is always something going on

  • In "The Day" I used to attend a few parties at the Playboy mansion. Except for in the Grotto it was NOT debauchery on the grounds. The parties had obviously many celebs and many wannabe's (hmmmm I guess I was in the latter category). That being said, I wouldn't mind haunting the Playboy mansion from 1965-1980.

  • That sounds fun Knightly.

  • What if we all met up at one place as ghosts... stay with me on this.. WENT AROUND AS ONE BIG GROUP OF GHOSTS HAUNTING PLACES :O
    Tell me that isn't awesome
