Cuddle license

I was just in a discussion with a possible client and was asked if I was a licensed cuddler? He wanted to make sure I was a legit provider. I replied with there is no such thing as a licensed cuddler. Then he blocked me. My question is I guess is there such a thing as a licensed cuddler because as far as I am aware, there is no such thing as being a licensed cuddler. Am I wrong? I found this very strange and odd because I don’t see it being required to provide this type of service. So I guess I have to say I feel offended by that am wrong I mean, I guess I can’t be wrong about how I feel but just want to put this out there so any insight would be great thank you

    There are licensed ones, but this site does not require pros to possess a license.

    I've seen some cuddlers state that they're 'certified' cuddlers - maybe that's what he was thinking?

    There are other websites and communities that certify pro cuddlers with training at a cost. Whether or not he meant this is hard to say, but it is a thing. Those websites offer pro cuddlers also so if someone is certified, they may be on that website as well. It's not necessary but can feel better for some clients. As you said, you can't be wrong about how you feel, but getting more information can help, which you are. I hope this helps!

    The OP is correct, there isn't any such thing as a licensed cuddler.

    There are training providers who offer courses in professional cuddling, and some websites may have some kind of internal certification system, but none of these things apply generally. For example, the training courses are rarely scrutinised or assessed by independent third parties.

    The potential client appears to have a faulty understanding of the term.

    @snuggable1 ~ You're smart to come and ask for opinions out here, on the forums. This site doesn't seem to "license" its Pros, but there still seems to be plenty of business for them! :) Don't let that one blocker dissuade you from offering a very valuable, fun, and needed service!

    I would have come up with a Truthfully BS answer like I've logged x amount of experience hours in the field and attended abc webinar as well as cuddle seminars in such and such state. Certification pending fees and yada yada.I know (huge number) of cuddle positions or whatever lol.
    But he's just being quite specific. Is the potential client a licensed utilizer of cuddles, hmmm?

    And...just so you know... I carry that license with me... everywhere I go!! hahahaha!!! :)

    It's easy to mock someone who merely wanted to know whether a pro cuddler had any training or certification for the job. It is a reasonable question.

    @BJC They're not mocking him for asking if a pro cuddler had any training or certification. He didn't ask at all about training. And assuming that "certification" and "license" are the same thing, what certifications exist that would be nationally recognized?

    It’s not a bad question, really. Fields like Yoga and Massage have recognized industry standards that necessitate a certain amount of verifiable hours of study to obtain.

    License is the wrong word, because cuddling is unregulated. There are cuddling certifications, but it's not a license. Because you're not legally required to go through any form of education/certification to cuddle professionally.

    Then yes, I think it's valid to mock someone for asking for something that doesn't exist and getting mad that it doesn't exist.

    IDK that term is just a turn off to me. I wouldn’t want to use a licensed cuddler - sounds way too structured, robotic and clinical for me. (That’s not to say it might not be a nice experience, I’m just saying it’s a non starter for me personally).

    I know a certified cuddle provider, a real sweet and giving human being! 😇
    She has stated she knows 90 cuddle positions. That sounds exhausting!
    I learned cuddling he old fashioned way, I'm the baby with 10 siblings 😂
    Any cuddle training I've done has been beneficial to myself and my cuddle friends 🤗

    There are numerous examples of words that many people misuse. Is a rattlesnake a poisonous? Not at all, you can clean, cook and eat them and they will not make you sick. However they are venomous (they can kill your if they bite you).

    “Certificate” vs “Certification” is another example. I know a lot of people who use these terms interchangeably but they are two different things. You can earn a training certificate by attending a class but you need to demonstrate proficiency either through taking an exam or through some other form of skills assessment to earn a certification. However these terms are starting to blur today due to continual misuse.

    The guy mentioned in the OP seems to have used the wrong word when he asked about “licensed” when he most likely meant “certified”. It is a shame the guy didn’t take time to clarify what he was asking and instead chose to block the OP.

    The point I wished to make is that the client who asked if the pro was licensed was asking a fair question, even if he didn't get the term right. If someone asks you for $100 for a service she says she can provide, it's legitimate to ask what experience and skills she brings to the job. OP could have reassured him on that rather than simply saying there is no such thing as a licensed cuddler.

    The fact that any agency would presume such expertise on something so basic as cuddling that they would issue licenses is just plain insulting. Hang on, are you licensed to write things in a comments section? Are you a licensed opinionater? Do you have a permit for whistling show tunes on a monorail? Please.

    @BJC You're putting the onus of correctly interpreting what the asker (him) wants entirely on the pro cuddler (her), rather than requiring him to have adequate communication skills. When you require someone else to figure out what you actually meant when you use the wrong words, they're usually going to get it wrong. Maybe he meant certification instead of license. Maybe he did actually mean license. Without him being willing to explain, we'll never know. The fault is on him for getting angry that his question as it was asked was answered. If she had answered a potentially completely unrelated question, then the fault would be on her. He didn't ask about her experience. He didn't ask about training or certifications. He asked if she was licensed, and she answered the question in the best way she could, that there's no such thing as a licensed cuddler.

    Communication was discussed here not too long ago. This is why good communication skills, including being willing to clarify when you're not understood, are essential.

    @tylerflamm I think whistling show tunes (or any other tunes) in public should require a license. I also think absolutely no one should be given a license.

    This is the hill I will rest on for a while!

    I would just like to thank everyone who took the time to read my question and give their response. #1 cause I feel validated, #2 laughing is sooo therapeutic, #3 I did see that other sites require “certificatation” which I found ridiculous cause truth be told it’s just another way for someone to make $ off of work you do without them doing anything, like being taxed 60 times off the same $ you earned yet HAVE to spend. Last time I checked everyone is different, with different needs, different likes different dislikes. We’re not robots and there are no user manuals with human beings. I know my son didn’t come with one when he was born. Unless it was lost in the mail.

    I’m with @WestsideMarc on this one. Certified/licensed sounds so structured and clinical, not cuddly at all.

    There are certified cuddlers. License is usually per a government agency. There are no government agencies that are licensing cuddling. The person either made a mistake with their wording or didn’t know what they were talking about. All in all, They probably did you a favor by blocking you.

    Call me a skeptic---but I wonder about the true motivations of someone who requests a cuddling license? I have turned down things in the past---but if truly motivated by the desire--I seriously doubt the lack of a license would be a show stopper-----what would be the assessment criteria----does life end if you fail your cuddling license exam? If two people meet---and some interaction becomes objectionable---I could be wrong but there are avenues available to deal with situations including the use of two feet to walk out of the situation. I seriously doubt for all practical matter the man is ever in any danger. I think the client simply had a change of heart--or never intended to book in the first place. It's his loss--------if I book more than 5 cuddle sessions---is it true Ill get a CC Merit badge???
