@Eliezer lol. No racism involved in the lab leak theory. Is it racist to think that a novel corona virus that was first discovered in Wuhan leaked from the NOVEL CORONA VIRUS RESEARCH LAB that happens to be in WUHAN?

Trigger warning for some people…
I am skeptical that the Federal Trade Commission and the Antitrust Division of DOJ would allow this to happen but this was reported yesterday on CNBC and other mainstream news outlets.

Interesting, if he did he could fix the manipulative algorithms and clean up some of the garbage on TT
@JohnR1972 this was debunked: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTYo3hTqR/
A mainstream news story from yesterday has already been debunked?
And what is triggering about the news story?
@g_w_t_w Maybe because the news story had the word "Musk" in it.
Well ok. with all the garbage written online constantly, I don’t let words on my phone screen bother me. I will admit that some images can have a really upsetting impact for me though. Some awfulness I can’t unsee.
@xandriarain Thanks for the link. I had my doubts about that story but it was in a supposedly “credible” mainstream news outlet. The original story was reported in Bloomberg which is considered a very reputable source for business news.

If Musk did buy it, it would quickly become another cesspool like Twitter and Facebook.
@IronLemon Thought it was already a cesspool lol An entertaining one though I’m sure.
The marketplace of ideas can be messy and upsetting, and perhaps looks like a cesspool. But where free speech exists, the truth will eventually defeat untruth over time.
Censorship actually creates the cesspool, as fiction can be upheld as a matter of law. And that brings chaos and disorder to a society.
It's always unexpected when TxTom agrees with me, but I'll take it. Except that I don't consider the forums to be a cesspool, and there's a lot of removing hate speech.
But it appears we don't agree. Designating certain speech as "hate" is the first step to censorship.
How come logging on to Tiktok is more dangerous than owning a gun?
A pen challenge is mightier than a sword gun.
I actually have made hundreds of tiktoks and will be sad if I lose all of them. I’ve been on it for years.
You're saying all censorship makes places cesspools. That obviously includes these forums. And It's well known that elon censors anything critical of him on twitter. And facebook has long been known for censoring "racists/transphobes/homophobes/misogynists are bad" but not racists, transphobes, homophobes, or misogynists. Well, I guess that's good if you support hate speech (which is fairly well defined).
I don't use tiktok but the ban seems bad. State is ass blasted they don't have free access to tt's data like USA corps along with 0 say in how they're run, USA corps just enshitten their own social media sites so they want their real competition banned. Just another instance of companies using their tools in congress to ban what they can't beat (╬ Ò﹏Ó)
@TxTom - in the correct hands
I guess that's good if you support hate speech...
I support the right to all speech, including and especially that speech which is unpopular, disgusting, or untrue.
I also support the consequences from one's peers of exercising free speech.
And, no, threats of death or injury to others is not protected speech.
@TxTom There is a huge difference between hate speech existing and overreaching when it comes to defining its parameters. Just because you might feel there is overreaching at times doesn't mean that that hate speech should not be recognized as such at all. There are very legitimate reasons as to why it exists.

Of course, the debate also has to take into consideration that there is no "right to free speech" on social media, since social media is not a branch of government, and the First Amendment only protects you from governmental censorship.
