Also TikTok is now letting you save videos without the watermark, so it’s easier than ever now to upload your content onto other platforms. Ive been spending the last several months getting everything up on Youtube but it was taking forever because I had to go through Tik save to remove the watermark but now it’s a breeze without that extra step. Im almost caught up.

Of course, the debate also has to take into consideration that there is no "right to free speech" on social media, since social media is not a branch of government, and the First Amendment only protects you from governmental censorship.
That is true to a degree. However it is my understanding some businesses can be designated “public utilities” and then they become governed by the 1st Amendment (and the rest of them).
For example, what if Apple or Verizon came out with a list of topics you were not allowed to discuss with a friend or loved one on an iPhone or using Verizon cellular bandwidth? They are not the government but they are not free to limit your speech in your telephone conversations.

I listened to some of the oral arguments made by the justice department lawyer and they aren't saying anything about how the app might be collecting data its not supposed to. That's really not an issue because the app is only available on the apple app store and the google play store. All apps can be analyzed to see what information they are accessing on your phone and at least on google you can easily restrict what access it has, like you can prevent it from accessing your contacts or text messages etc. So that isn't really an issue. What the goernment's lawyer was saying is that they are worried that the chinese government may in the future manipulate the algorithm in a way that benefits them and harms America. We already know that meta(FB) was able to experiment with how statuses showed up on feeds that altered the mood of young people, making them more depressed when they showed more depressing statuses etc. So our government is fine with non governmental corporations like meta having that power, but they don't want China to ever have that power. It sounds to me like our government is just upset that they don't have this power over us, because they can control meta and X easily since now the owner of X is practically a member of the government, and Zuckerberg is now showing fealty to the next president. But tiktok ceo doesn't care what our leaders say. For example during the past year, tiktok has been a major source of information about Gaza, and public opinion on that has changed drastically over the past year and a half, especially with younger Americans and tiktok is being blamed for that because it doesn't censor information about Gaza like instagram does. In the end, this whole case is about governments fighting for control of the narrative.
Forgot to mention, that this tiktok ban may have some unforseen consequences that the American government probably doesn't like, and that's a large number of tiktok users moving to a chinese based social media site. I actually tried myself. Totally agree that we haven't had a real government for a long time, this, however is not something that reaffirms that.
The algorithm displays current trends to your (for you) page and as a result affects what (and when) you see them. This small part of its function result can affect your political and social views if manipulated. WHEN you see something is as important as what you see.
Developing software helps one see beyond obvious concerns. As a test, spend time on a friend's phone with different political social views. (If this even exists anymore) you may be surprised.
There will be a huge void created by the remaining tiktok audience pool, this obviously would be the time to create its upgraded replacement.
Every software developing institution (and private ones) on the planet worth anything is working on grabbing this captive audience.
There is a replacement coming.
