I am Indigenous myself and have Inuit friends and acquaintances.
The meaning of rubbing your noses together is NOT up for discussion. It means "I love you", no matter how you want to try and twist it.
My mother used it to say "I love you very much" when words weren't enough. It is more intense than words.
It's like trying to convince people that caressing someone's face and throat while staring into their eyes can be platonic! Sure, you can try to change the meaning for yourself and your cuddle partner, but just know that it normalizes boundary pushing and non-platonic behavior.
Here is why I think the matter became a big deal...the truth of the matter is that noone really knows what happens in a closed door session...its a private matter...but when questionable activity is then posted on a forum in an attempt to normalize the behavior ..I think we can agree it crosses the line and invites other activity.....like tickling for example or other "so called innocent" events......why invite potential trouble

Could it be romantic? Of course. Just like every other aspect of cuddling could be. It depends on the people, the vibe, the intent. Don't do it with new people, people you don't trust, or people who seem to have an interest in you. Do it if it feels playful, natural, and meaningless.

I can think of a very few cuddle sessions where the guy was maybe very nice but hygiene wasn’t the best, breath was smelly. And if they had the sniffles?? I still don’t want any kind of facial touching interaction with a stranger. For me, laying on a bed wearing clothing and hugging, shoulder massage, spooning etc feels fine with a “stranger” who I’ve had a lot of conversations with but I just don’t want their face touching mine. I don’t want their breath on my face. It looks like I’m in the minority though and that’s fine. This is just something that “now I know “ to be sure it’s not one of their cuddle needs. Fortunately not one person has tried it with me so far. So I also just asked my 8 yr old GS for an Eskimo kiss, told him what it was and he laughed and said Uhh, no thanks!
On a similarly related topic, I left a persons home after a cuddle and when I got home noticed the shirt I had worn had snot all over it from where she was rubbing her face into me 😩
I think that if the connect is welcoming, time stands still kind of moment, both at peace and enjoying the closeness… there’s nothing wrong with it (with consent lol)

Hmm, maybe I should have read more of this conversation. But I’ll guess that it went to all kinds of topics that Eskimo kisses are non platonic or some one got an erection or some other things going on.

IMO it has nothing to do with being platonic or not, I just don’t want anyone’s face touching mine, I don’t want to smell their breath. Why on earth would I want that during hugging and cuddling with someone who I barely know? Not pleasant, not relaxing.
