VIvid dreams!)

Recently..I suddenly recognized I can remember the last time I had a dream! This fact is particularly disappointing given that when I was younger...I had vivid dreams every night. Among my favorite was the ability to fly simply by levitating off the ground just by thinking about it. My dreams.were so vivid..I couldn't wait to go to sleep at night to see where my next adventure would take me. That leads to my questions........is it natural to lose the ability to dream as one gets olddr?........do youvhave favorite dreams that stay with even on the passing of time?.....If you could..would you invite a friend alomg for the ride in one of your dreams

I don't know the science of it but I do dream less now than when I was younger. I think there is some science about not dreaming much if you are getting less sleep than you need, but I don't really know 🤷‍♂️

It does make me appreciate the few dreams I do have more.

    @dennis22554 interesting post and
I can relate to what you say about the dreams you had when younger.
Mine have almost gotten stronger as I’ve aged, but I’ve always had very vivid ones

Mine are like movies. I have certain dreams that I repeat and I’ve been having for decades the story just evolves but same subjects, continuing story.
Different things happening in the same type of places. I wake up all night long from the dreams I’m having. Lately I only sleep in two hour increments and ithat part is a problem.
I usually remember them most of the day, especially because I will have more of the same type or same subject maybe the next night, continuing where I left off. My dreams also include problem-solving and designing, creating.

I still remember the most frightening dream that was very symbolic from when I was about 6. It explains a lot of things about my childhood, unresolved issues. I didn’t really understand at the time, but as an adult, it makes sense. I also have some pretty bad nightmares.

I’m fascinated by brain function. Will there be some way in the future, I have no idea how, for someone else to view our dreams? Through brain research and technology?

  • Very interesting
Reply..thank you! I had a recent brain stoke but do not think that has anything to do with the ability to dream

  • I love vivid dreams..especiallly the ones that wake me up...I also think it explains my love of movies

  • Also love when my dog dreams..wondering if cats dream

  • I know from previous conversations that you had a stroke, so first thing I wondered when I saw this post was if that affected your ability to dream.
My dad had an aneurysm at age 52 and totally recovered and continued to dream.
There have been studies about dogs dreaming, I can always tell. I’m not sure about cats and other animals.
I’m so fascinated about anything brain related, especially because of aging. We take so much for granted when we’re young!

  • Lets just say that I am in a horrible situation mainly due to my deire to try to rescue people...its resulted in tremendous stress but CC has genuinely helped in resurrection my generally positive spirit
.the only adverse affects resulted in degraded hearing
    .
Vision..surprisingly I've become more technically adept at work

  • Cancer is far worse

  • Just would love to be able yo dream once again!9

Well some of that is good news then. I’ve lost some hearing, pretty common as we age.
Best of luck, keep moving forward. Seems like you’re not just settling but improving.
And as far as dreaming, you could be having them, but you just can’t remember them?
I just wish I could sleep.

  • Listen to rain sound videos ...they help.......as fast a dreming...ill try to relearn f t Om my dog....hers must be good because she snaps me if I inadvertently wake her up..have a great night..hopefully more stories are shared

  • I don’t know if the rain sound would be a distraction. I should try it.

I also used to dream about flying all the time, as a kid. For me it was similar to swimming, but through air, and anywhere from around the ceilings of my house, to across canyons and mountains. I miss it...it was an incredible, effortless feeling.

I think that I don't remember a lot of my dreams, depending on how deep my sleep is. I know my dreams are also 100% affected by medications I take. Including nightmares.

I use fan white noise to sleep, Binaural beats might be an interesting thing to try if invoking dreams was the goal. I don't remember dreams very often, nor do I care to, Historically the ones that I recall are usually stressful. I have had dreams that were working at a factory and I woke up so tired. I have dreamed unsettling things...overall I rather enjoy not remembering.

I would be more of a fan if my dreams were chillen on the beach or next to a shady Creek, but alas never in the cards for me.

Since REM state is needed, I'm sure consistent sleep routines are needed and I've read that we can stay up too late, etc. and miss certain times for circadian rhythms. Also with aging usually comes more likelihood t trips to bathroom which can play havoc with those same cycles.

Then there is the notion that post industrial revolution that we have changed the way we sleep, books like Charles Dickens eludes to 2nd sleep suggesting that it may have been common to get up for a brief period in the night and then go back to bed (I think with the assumption that we went to bed earlier in general).

For awhile I was using a magnesium supplement spray that you put on your legs and absorbs (apparently most of us have a deficiency), but I had some wild dreams while using that.

And I would imagine any issues like sleep apnea would highly impact it.

For real, I've had so many bad dreams about work that were so stressful...stuck in traffic unable to get there, car breaking down, going back to work for past companies but not having my safe keys or alarm codes...and these dreams always drag on for what feels like hours. 🥴

  • Often I wake up remembering and then within a few minutes I've completely forgotten. Some bits and pieces stick out here and there. I think that's where a lot of deja vu happens. Can't quite remember why something seems so familiar because it's something that stands out from a dream sequence.

I am around a lot of grief and loss and trauma with my job , and sometimes I wake up remembering dreams that are tied in to experiences from that. I don't really know how to deal with my own stuff because I'm so used to taking on the stuff of other people. I often am processing other people so don't have room to process myself. I love what I do but hospice is hard sometimes. So I think their grief ends up manifesting itself into my dreams sometimes and becomes my grief. Takes some getting used to. Probably good that I don't really remember much for very long.

  • I have amazing vivid dreams, some are so weird.

Take zmag before I go to bed. Gives really sound sleep and is known for giving trippy dreams.

    @wilderdude
Can you post a screenshot of the bottle? I’m desperate. Thanks!
(I’ve been taking magnesium but it’s not helping)

  • Another question..is it true noone dreams in color...also do you ever actual see yourself from someone else's perspective? No

  • I dream in vivid colors. I’ve never heard that before.

🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 I will order it asap!
But it’s ok to just take for sleep, since I’m not doing that kind of workout?

  • Yeah all good to take, helps with workout recovery but pretty much anybody will benefit from taking them

My daughter never remembers any of her dreams because she sleeps straight through. I remember mine because I wake up from them. Sounds like you're just sleeping more soundly.

  • I have had a few really strong and vivid dreams, in full color. In 2 , I was with in inches of passed family members. I had one that was so real and took it as an omen, I was at my own funeral service and I know now at what age I will die. So I’m working on my bucket list.
I have woke up mad and happy but couldn’t remember why, lol

  • @WriterGF for me, the more lucid/vivid dreams are the ones where I sleep super sound.

  • I think I read once that the ones you remember are the ones in the seconds just before waking. Or something about REM sleep?
I dream a lot. I feel like I’m sleeping just below the surface, very lightly because I wake up so much. And I think of those dreams throughout the day and remember them indefinitely.

  • My most recent meds have caused some long, vivid dreams, especially during the first few weeks. Sometimes I remember them for some of the day, sometimes it's only vague impressions, flashes as something reminds me of the dream. And some (especially the thankfully rare nightmares) last forever. Though even with that, aphantasia does make remembering dreams difficult, since it's hard to visualize more than a few snapshots.

A while back, I did have a cinematic dream. At the end, the credits rolled and we all walked out of the theater.
