The survey will close on Saturday, August 1st at 12am PT / 3am ET / 7am GMT.
I will announce the August book winner & chosen meeting time on August 1st after I review the results.
Note: I am only scheduling ONE meeting for August at the end of the month. If the chosen time doesn't work for you, I'm happy to try to schedule a 1-on-1 discussion!
If you want to have a say in which book we read and what time we meet, make sure to click the link & respond before Saturday, August 1st at 12am PT / 3am ET / 7am GMT.
It is a short and easy read, though it gives us a lot to think and talk about! There's also a workbook that can be purchased separately if you want to dive deeper.
I'll message out the meeting link directly to people who have expressed interest. You can also DM me to get it!
Where to get the book: Directly from the official site, PDF format Apple ebook Kindle ebook & Amazon paperback Barnes & Noble paperback Target paperback Kobo ebook ebooks.com Libby/OverDrive, free through your library app
Unfortunately I did not find an audio book.
About mid-month I'll post some discussion questions in case anyone wants to participate that way rather than the end of month meeting βΊοΈ
Thank you so much for doing this @cuddlefaery I'm looking forward to discussing this and navigating some of the differences from the original idea of Love Languages. SUPER EXCITED!!
When I first read the book way back in the day, I was thrilled to finally understand that people communicate love (kindness, tenderness, care) to/for each other differently. I was also relieved to know that I wasn't malfunctioning as a human because I felt love (kindness, tenderness, care) differently than some of my friends and family.
There was a large amount of joy and relationship building that come from that revelation. I'm so glad that Anne Hodder-Shipp was brave enough to stretch this out to people outside of traditional cis het monogomous relationships so that we can all benefit from this kind of thoughtfulness re our relating to each other.
My apologies for not posting discussion questions this month!
A reminder that the virtual meeting is one week away! I'll be sending out the meeting link via DM to those who have expressed interest.
Looking forward to discussing with you next Sunday!
@cuudlefaery thank you
Hey y'all!
Just a quick reminder that August's book club meeting is just half a day away!
If you still need the meeting link, shoot me a DM π
I'm trying to get more into reading again, already a part of a local book club, but would love to join in for the next one if you're still accepting members.
Been sick but I hope to make the meeting
Bump
Great discussions today! Thank you @VitaminJ , @CuddleTherapy70 , and @JojoGriff ! π«
If anyone missed it and would like to chat about either of the books so far, I'm happy to see if we can coordinate a time!
I'll try to get the survey for September out later today!
We're using this form pick our book of the month for September, as well as decide the best meeting time to hang out virtually.
The deadline to respond is Saturday, September 5th at 12am PT / 3am ET / 7am GMT!
If you miss the deadline, you're still welcome to join us! π
On September 5th when I announce the book pick, I'll also choose ONE meeting time to accommodate the most people possible at the end of the month.
If anyone wants to meet with me 1-on-1 during the month to chat, I'm always happy to arrange that separately! You can always put some available days/times in the final comment box and I'll see what I can scheduleπ
A quick reminder that the survey for September book club closes in 2 days!
If you want to have a say in which book we read and what time we meet, make sure to respond in time!
Regardless, everyone is welcome to join in - voted or not, read part/all/none of the book, on cam/voice or lurking. Anyone can positively contribute!
Great idea. I really like the Love Language books.
A pivotal book for many seeking kinder, more compassionate interactions - practical, accessible, and deeply relevant to cuddling and relationships of all kinds. As with many foundational texts, it has sparked broader conversation in recent years about how its framework applies across different lived experiences - something we look forward to exploring together!
Where to get the book: - Audible audiobook (narrated by Rosenberg himself!) - Kindle ebook & Amazon paperback - Barnes & Noble paperback - Everand ebook (free trial) - Libby/OverDrive - free through your library app - Used copies often available cheaply on ThriftBooks and AbeBooks - You can also often find used copies in local buy/sell groups and used book stores!
Edit: I've corrected the title due to issues with different editions. I've also fixed the links. Any edition should cover the same material, but for reference my copy is the 3rd Edition. You can use whichever edition you're able to get!
Question: The author has multiple books and workbooks under the title "Nonviolent Communication". But none I could find @ Amazon for Kindle titled: "Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Compassion" 1. The Kindle and Everand links don't work 2. The Audible link is for a book titled: "Nonviolent Communication: Create Your Life, Your Relationships, and Your World in Harmony with Your Values" which appears to be a completely different book.
I assume we need to get a paper copy if we want to partake in this month's selection or did I misunderstand which Rosenberg title we were intended to read?
Thank you for your service! π
@JojoGriff good catch! I had copied the links from GoodReads, which is usually reliable, but it appears some are broken. I'll get those fixed ASAP.
The book's title has changed a few times with different editions, but it should still fundamentally be the same book so that whichever one you get we can still discuss it.
Edit to add: Re: paper copy - you can use any version as long as it is the original book, not his spin-offs or workbooks. Even those would have value, but the full ebook is what I'll be working from and the best place to start. The current edition runs under "Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life"
This sounds fascinating. Not sure I can participate this month. It has been chaotic and crazy.
love this! I'm in an NVC practice group locally and it's been really helpful.
A few suggestions
-For us slow readers, have books picked out two months ahead of time. More than likely, I will do every other month but would have two months to read.
-People who plan on participating, post a discussion that they think of the week leading up to the discussion. That spreads out the responsibility of discussion questions.
