Drive time

I spoke to another member recently who said he was quoted X amount of dollars for an hour cuddle session plus $30 for drive time to him and $30 drive time back home. I told the client that first of all, $30 to drive to him is a rip off. Secondly, a client should not pay for a professional cuddlers drive home. What if that pro was heading to another appointment after the first client and she charged that client $30 to get to him plus she charged the first client $30 to supposedly get home. That is a scam and completely unethical. I did one time pay for a cuddlers lyft driver to me and home but I did it on my app so I know she really went home. The cudddler also stayed longer to cover the cost of the lyft. Clients need to be educated so they aren't taken advantage of by greedy pros. I'm not saying all pros are driven by greed but there are some that give professional cuddling a very bad name.

    @dakota29michael great statement my friend but you should probably say it in a more simple language cause if someone thinks it's okay to charge $30 each way for drive time, they may not be all that bright.

    What is a fair solution?  Is it fair that clients pay for drive time?  Do other professions ask for drive time pay?

    What distance constitutes drive time pay? Over a 30 minute drive?  Anything over an hour obviously makes sense.

    Some pros will ask for drive time if they're driving quite a ways which is fair. The most common number I've heard is $15 an hour but that should only be one way in my humble opinion. As I said in the initial post, you don't know where that pro is going after the session so why should a client pay for it? In my example above, the pro asked for $120 an hour which is way too much plus an additional $60 in drive time. How is $180 for a one hour cuddle session reasonable? Unfortunately for some professionals, morals don't pay the bills so clients need to be educated so they aren't exploited.

    What's the solution? Quite simply, practice business ethically and responsibily.

    30$ is fair. 100$ is fair. 200$ is fair. 0$ is fair. It's the free market. They offer a price and you can take it or leave it.

    @dakota29michael Yes, everyone is able to make their own rates and to charge or not if they are driving to you. If the person is willing to pay it, then so be it, but if a Pro is doing it knowing the client is new and doesn't know any better then that is wrong and new comers need to be aware of what a reasonable price range is for travel rates... at least a ballpark range. It's also not a bad thing if a Pro says it's $30 there and $30 back and a client asks why the high charge before deciding.

    @dakota29michael I'd love for you to tell a Pro that $0 is fair if she has to drive an hour, cuddle for two hours and drive an hour back home. Yes it's a free market but let's not get cray cray. 

    Everyone can set their own prices and rules so it's kind of Thunderdome but common sense has to play some part in the resolution.

    $1000 for an hour cuddle is a price. $60 for an hour cuddle is a "fair" price. Lets keep it on Earth.

    It's the free market. A person who charges 1000$ will have a hard time lining up clients. A client also has the right to indicate that they will not cover travel costs.

    I am with Dakota on this one. Clients can have boundaries just like pros can. The client can always say "no" am keep shopping.

    I think it depends on distance and traffic. If it is a afternoon traffic and you are trying to get from Orange County to LA or San Diego $30 is totally reasonable. From Orange to Long Beach at that time I'd like a $45 Lyft one way, with no prime-time. I know because I am also a Lyft driver. I have a corolla so I try to keep my travel prices lower but that is me personally.

    I work in a variety of fields and it is common and reasonable to have a travel fee. It is a convenience to have someone come to you and there are costs to travel, both financial and of time. I do a lot of driving, which I am happy to do, but I do charge $1/mile one way. In other areas of work, the travel fee is higher. This site is great because you can connect with pros who charge for a professional service and non pros who want to cuddle for free. It just depends on what you are looking for. :-)

    P.S. Hopefully, if someone is working as a pro, they ate quoting mileage ethically and honestly. If I am already in the general area of someone for another reason, I do not charge a travel fee.

    I was quoted 1 dollar per minute from a pro both coming and going which would have been a minimum of 120 dollars just for travel cost. With the cost of cuddle could easily have been in excess of 220 dollars for a 1 hour session.

    @masterofcuddle The business travel rate for 2017 per the IRS is 53.5 cents a mile. You should only have to pay one way and not both ways so the proper Travel pay in your situation should be 60 miles times 53.5 cents = $32.10 This is how proper professional business works.

    So I have in my rate $10 per hour of travel however, the speeds on the freeway here are 75mph so technically I could drive 75 miles for $10. If I applied the IRS rate for te same distance it would be $4012.5. I think speed of travel should come into a play at least a little bit.

    It would be $40.13 if you round up not $4012.5. Four thousand bucks for travel would be pretty pricey lol

    I see your point though @victoria92 ...speed of travel could work against you too in heavy LA traffic where it takes 2 hours to drive 10 miles

    @masterofcuddle I would not be surprised if I did my math wrong. I'm so bad at math it's funny. LA traffic is so crazy!
