Cuddling during this quarantine

  • @Alan2018 I have a neighbor down the street and her husband is a virologist which means he collects and analyzes data on viruses for HHS and he warned a few of us a couple of weeks ago to not look at the Ebola crisis as a model for the following reasons:

    1. The Ebola outbreaks of 2014-2016 were in poor, isolated villages in East Africa.
    2. There was no such thing as having Ebola and being asymptomatic. The symptoms were readily apparent and you knew who had it and who did not.
    3. Control was not really through quarantine—it was abandoning whole villages where they could.
    4. Urban centers were never in danger
    5. Ebola was a known disease (discovered in 1970s) durning the 21st century outbreak

We are dealing with something distinctly different and quarantine is a calculated guess that they are not sure will work long term. Quarantine is a short term mitigater, not a cure.

  • I've heard that every intervention is just to buy time until a vaccine is developed ; but that's a good policy, like trying to keep the Titanic afloat long enough for the Carpathia to get closer.

Perhaps something people could do in the weeks / months before they are likely to catch it, is to improve their health ; all those New Year resolutions that were broken before January 2nd. The virus reduces our ability to breathe, so cardiovascular fitness would presumably help to reduce the effect.
